Extraction of metals from Mo–Ni/Al2O3 spent catalyst using H2SO4 baking–leaching-solvent extraction technique

        K.H. Park,김홍인,D. Mishra,C.W. Nam,J.T. Park,D.J. Kim,P.K. Parhi 한국공업화학회 2012 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.18 No.6

Baking–leaching-solvent extraction process was investigated to recover metal values from waste petroleum catalyst. Baking of Mo–Ni/Al2O3 spent catalyst with H2SO4 followed by leaching of the baking mass concentrate was presented. Under optimum baking condition (temp. 300 8C, H2SO4 = 1.2stoichiometric, baking time 1 h), and low acid leaching condition (temp. 95 8C, H2SO4 = 2% (v/v), pulp density 5% and leaching duration 30 min), about 96% Mo, 99% Al and 95% Ni was dissolved. Baking–leaching results were interpreted by two different statistical analysis approaches namely Principal Component (PCA) and Multi Linear Regression Analysis (MLRA). The generated leach liquor was further subjected to the solvent extraction of Mo(VI) by LIX 84-I followed by aluminum using Na-Cyanex 272. A quantitative extraction of Mo(VI) and Al was achieved in 2-stage at A:O ratio of 1:1 with 40% LIX-84-I and 2-stages at 1:1 phase ratio with 60% neutralized Cyanex 272, respectively. While stripping the metals from loaded organic such as Mo(VI) using 20% NH4OH and Al with 3 M H2SO4, the metal concentration in the strip solution were enriched up to 1.5 times and 3 times in two and three number of stages, respectively. Based on the results of present study, a conceptual process flow diagram was proposed.

Introduction of control points in B-splines for synthesis of ping finite optimized cam motion program

        T. K. Naskar,R. Mishra 대한기계학회 2012 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.26 No.2

In this paper, ping finite cam motion function (CMF) is designed instead of jerk finite program. Work is done on B-splines. Control points (CP), which are defined by angular positions of intermediate knots, are introduced in B-splines to minimize jerk of cam-follower. We studied the effects of CP on the peak values of jerk. The values of jerk and ping at end positions of each motion cycle also influence the peak values of jerk. The angular position of intermediate knots and either jerk or ping at end position are varied independently or simultaneously to optimize the peak values of jerk. Experimental analysis is conducted for measuring cam-follower performance of the newly introduced cam profile. An experimental set-up is designed, manufactured and installed for this purpose.

      • A green approach for the reduction of graphene oxide by wild carrot root

        Kuila, T.,Bose, S.,Khanra, P.,Mishra, A.K.,Kim, N.H.,Lee, J.H. Pergamon Press ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2012 Carbon Vol.50 No.3

A green approach for the reduction of graphene oxide (GO) using wild carrot root is reported in this work. It avoids the use of toxic and environmentally harmful reducing agents commonly used in the chemical reduction of GO to obtain graphene. The endophytic microorganisms present in the carrot root, reduces exfoliated GO to graphene at room temperature in an aqueous medium. Transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy images provide clear evidence for the formation of few layer graphene. Characterization of the resulting carrot reduced GO by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows partial reduction of GO to graphene. Raman spectroscopy data also indicates the partial removal of oxygen-containing functional groups from the surface of GO and formation of graphene with defects.

Effect of Iron Deficiency Anemia on Hemoglobin A1c Levels

        Nitin Sinha,T.K. Mishra,Tejinder Singh,Naresh Gupta 대한진단검사의학회 2012 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.32 No.1

Background: Iron deficiency anemia is the most common form of anemia in India. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is used in diabetic patients as an index of glycemic control reflecting glucose levels of the previous 3 months. Like blood sugar levels, HbA1c levels are also affected by the presence of variant hemoglobins, hemolytic anemias, nutritional anemias, uremia, pregnancy, and acute blood loss. However, reports on the effects of iron deficiency anemia on HbA1c levels are inconsistent. We conducted a study to analyze the effects of iron deficiency anemia on HbA1c levels and to assess whether treatment of iron deficiency anemia affects HbA1c levels. Methods: Fifty patients confirmed to have iron deficiency anemia were enrolled in this study. HbA1c and absolute HbA1c levels were measured both at baseline and at 2 months after treatment, and these values were compared with those in the control population. Results: The mean baseline HbA1c level in anemic patients (4.6%) was significantly lower than that in the control group (5.5%, P <0.05). A significant increase was observed in the patients’ absolute HbA1c levels at 2 months after treatment (0.29 g/dL vs. 0.73 g/dL, P < 0.01). There was a significant difference between the baseline values of patients and controls (0.29 g/dL vs. 0.74 g/dL, P <0.01). Conclusions: In contrast to the observations of previous studies, ours showed that HbA1c levels and absolute HbA1c levels increased with treatment of iron deficiency anemia. This could be attributable to nutritional deficiency and/or certain unknown variables. Further studies are warranted.

Ligand mediated eco-friendly leaching of zinc from spent catalyst in alkaline media

        M. Mohapatra,Banaja Nayak,K. Sanjay,T. Subbaiah,B.K. Mishra 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.4

A novel leaching process for recovering Zn from spent catalyst in alkaline solution has been discussed. The catalyst was characterized for physico-chemical properties by chemical, XRD, TG-DTA and SEM. More than 92% Zn could be extracted from spent catalyst under the conditions: pulp density 2.5% (w/v), NaOH 1 M, EDTA 0.025 M, temperature 80℃ and time 3 h. Zn extraction increased with the number of stages. At the 4th stage almost all Zn could be extracted. A tentative process flow-sheet has been proposed based on Zn recovery. Characterization of leach residue by XRD and SEM gave an insight into the mechanism.

Characteristics of SiO2 etching by using pulse-time modulation in 60 MHz/2 MHz dual-frequency capacitive coupled plasma

        Jeon, M.H.,Mishra, A.K.,Kang, S.K.,Kim, K.N.,Kim, I.J.,Lee, S.B.,Sin, T.H.,Yeom, G.Y. Elsevier 2013 Current Applied Physics Vol.13 No.8

60 MHz pulsed radio frequency (rf) source power and 2 MHz continuous wave rf bias power, were used for SiO2 etching masked with an amorphous carbon layer (ACL) in an Ar/C4F8/O2 gas mixture, and the effects of the frequency and duty ratio of the 60 MHz pulse rf power on the SiO2 etch characteristics were investigated. With decreasing duty ratio of the 60 MHz pulse rf power, not only the etch rate of SiO2 but also the etch rate of ACL was decreased, however, the etch selectivity of SiO2 over ACL was improved with decreasing the duty ratio. On the other hand, when the pulse frequency was varied at a constant duty ratio, no significant change in the etch rate and etch selectivity of both materials could be observed. The variation of the etch characteristics was believed to be related to the change in the gas dissociation characteristics caused by the change in the average electron temperature for different pulsing conditions. The improvement in the etch selectivity with the decrease of duty ratio, therefore, was related to the decreased gas dissociation of C4F8 by the decrease of average electron temperature and, which resulted in a change in composition of the fluorocarbon polymer on the etched materials surface from C-C rich to CF2 rich. With decreasing the duty ratio, not only the etch selectivity but also the improvement in the SiO2 etch profile could be observed.

Genetic Relationship in Chicken Breeds Using Molecular Co-ancestry Information

        Ahlawat, S.P.S.,Vijh, R.K.,Mishra, Bina,Kumar, S.T. Bharani,Tantia, M.S. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2008 Animal Bioscience Vol.21 No.1

Five chicken populations viz. Chittagong, Ghagus, Kalasthi, Kadaknath, Tellichery were genotyped using 25 highly polymorphic microsatellite loci. White leg horn was taken as an outgroup. To reveal the relationship and distinctiveness among five indigenous breeds various genetic distances based on molecular co-ancestry were estimated and multidimensional scaling was performed. The Ghagus and Kalasthi breeds were closely related and their separation was recent, whereas Chittagong had a remote ancestry with other indigenous chicken populations.
