A nuclear material detection system based on neutron / gamma-ray hybrid system has been proposed for the container inspection at the sea port. The neutron from the inertial electrostatic confinement fusion source will be used for a fast pre-screening process by using both of neutrons and gamma-rays. The nuclear resonance fluorescence gamma-ray induced by quasi-monochromatic gamma-ray beam from the laser Compton Backscattering will be used in isotope identification for the precise post-screening process. The combination of two different probes, neutrons and gamma-rays, can detect nuclear material hidden by any kind of shielding.

The γ-secretase, composed of presenilin-1 (PS1) or presenilin-2 (PS2), nicastrin (NCT), anterior pharynx-defective phenotype 1 (APH-1), and PEN-2, is critical for the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). PSs are autoproteolytically cleaved, producing an N-terminal fragment (NTF) and a hydrophilic loop domain-containing C-terminal fragment. However, the role of the loop domain in the γ-secretase complex assembly remains unknown. Here, we report a novel PS2 isoform generated by alternative splicing, named PS2β, which is composed of an NTF with a hydrophilic loop domain. PS2β disturbed the interaction between NCT and APH-1, resulting in the inhibition of amyloid-β production. We concluded that PS2β may inhibit γ-secretase activity by affecting the γ-secretase complex assembly. For the study of astrophysically important states in 18Ne, the 14O(α, α)14O cross section was measured in inverse kinematics using a radioactive 14O beam. This reaction was investigated for properties of resonant states of 18Ne for determining the 14O(α, p)17F reaction rate, which is one of the most important reactions for understanding the breakout mechanism from the Hot CNO cycle to the rp-process. Alpha-induced elastic scattering on 14O was performed using the lowenergy radioactive ion (RI) beam separator at the Center for Nuclear Study (CNS) in the RIKEN Accelerator Research Facility. The energy range Ex = 7.2 ∽ 13.1 MeV of 18Ne was scanned with the thick target method. Recoiled alpha particles were measured with Si dE-E telescopes. Spins and widths of three resonances at Ex = 8.6, 9.22, and 10.06 MeV were calculated using the R-matrix analysis, and a new state of 18Ne at Ex = 12.0 MeV was found in this experiment.
A New Resistor Series For Chip/Network Applications

A new series of resistor compositions has been developed for chip applications. The new series, DuPont 00X0 $quot;INVAROX$quot; has been designed to give well rounded performance on chip resistors of all existing sixes including low TCR effects on small resistors. Because of their low process sensitivity, the 00X0 resistors can also be advantageously used in resistor network applications. To ensure good overall performance, we devised some screening tests that allowed us to easily visualize and understand the effects of composition and processing on resistor performance. The thorough screening of experimental compositions was a key in ensuring that no member of the series has severely limiting flaws. In this paper, we will discuss the development concepts for the new series, our screening tests for experimental compositions, and aspects of performance from a large and growing database.
