        The distributed species and number of viable microorganisms in drinking water were monitored according to water dispenser maintenance. our purpose was to investigate the distribution of bacteria in drinking water dispenser. To analyze possible dispenser contaminations sampling were performed from 14 locations in Namseoul University for 3 months from March to May, 2010. The isolated bacteria were identified by Gram stain and biochemical test using VITEKⅡ systems. The microorganism concentrations around the water discharge areas were measured and the average of total microorganisms was determined. The number of bacteria were measured by McFarland turbidity. The water and water discharge areas were separated and identified. The isolation rates of Gram positive cocci and Gram negative bacilli were 56.5%, 17.4% respectively. The frequently isolated bacteria were Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterbacter sakazakii, Alcaligenes faecalis, Acinetobacter baumannii, Staphylococcus hominis, respectively.         The pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganism have been isolated from the indoor airborne, the closest environment of human beings. Our purpose were to investigate the distribution of fungi and bacteria in indoor airborne sampled from 7 locations in Namseoul University for 2 months from September to October, 2010. The isolated bacteria were identified by Gram stain and biochemical test using VITEKTM system, also The fungus were identified by LPCB. The experiment on microorganism concentration of indoor air carried out and the average of total microorganism was measured. When airborne bacteria were isolated and identified. The isolation rates of Gram positive cocci, Gram positive bacilli, Gram negative bacilli, and Gram negative cocci were 38.3%, 22.4%, 2.7%, 0%, respectively. In Gram positive cocci, the most strains were identified as Micrococcus spp. In Gram positive bacilli, the most strains were identified as Bacillus spp. The frequently isolated fungi were Aspergillus sp, Penicillium sp, Alternaria sp, Rhizopus sp, Mucor sp. respectively.       • Inflammation-Modulated Metabolic Reprogramming Is Required for DUOX-Dependent Gut Immunity in <i>Drosophila</i>

        <P><B>Summary</B></P> <P>DUOX, a member of the NADPH oxidase family, acts as the first line of defense against enteric pathogens by producing microbicidal reactive oxygen species. DUOX is activated upon enteric infection, but the mechanisms regulating DUOX activity remain incompletely understood. Using <I>Drosophila</I> genetic tools, we show that enteric infection results in “pro-catabolic” signaling that initiates metabolic reprogramming of enterocytes toward lipid catabolism, which ultimately governs DUOX homeostasis. Infection induces signaling cascades involving TRAF3 and kinases AMPK and WTS, which regulate TOR kinase to control the balance of lipogenesis versus lipolysis. Enhancing lipogenesis blocks DUOX activity, whereas stimulating lipolysis via ATG1-dependent lipophagy is required for DUOX activation. <I>Drosophila</I> with altered activity in TRAF3-AMPK/WTS-ATG1 pathway components exhibit abolished infection-induced lipolysis, reduced DUOX activation, and enhanced susceptibility to enteric infection.         Standardized Suicide Prevention Program for Gatekeeper Intervention of North Korean Defectors in South Korea

        Objective North Korean defectors (NKDs) have experienced substantial difficulties during the migration and settlement in South Korea. They have a high prevalence of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicidal behaviors. The high prevalence of mental disorders among NKDs can lead to a high suicide rate. However, there are no suicide prevention programs for NKDs. This study aims to customize a suicide prevention program with content suitable for NKDs’ particular circumstances.Methods A multidisciplinary research team developed this program based on domestic and international gatekeeper training programs for suicide prevention and articles related to suicide prevention.Results We developed a multi-part gatekeeper training program, “Suicide CARE for NKDs.” In the “Introduction,” trainees learn about the need for the program and its importance. In “Careful observation,” trainees learn to recognize linguistic, behavioral, and situational signals of suicide risk. In “Active listening,” trainees learn how to ask about suicidal thoughts and to listen empathetically. In “Risk evaluation and expert referral,” trainees learn to evaluate suicide risk and to connect NKDs with institutes or services.Conclusion We expect this program to become useful for training gatekeepers to prevent suicide among NKD. A future follow-up study is needed to confirm the efficacy of the program.

      • The overexpression of PagBEE3 promotes growth, biomass production and proliferation of xylem cells in poplar

        Brassinosteroids (BRs) play important roles in many aspects of plant growth and development. BR-induced AtBEE3 (brassinosteroid enhanced expression 3) is required for a proper BR response in Arabidopsis. Here, we identified a poplar (Populus alba x P. glandulosa) BEE3 homolog encoding a putative basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH)-type transcription factor through microarray analysis. Transcripts of PagBEE3 were mainly detected in stems, with the internode having a low level of the transcripts and the node having a relatively higher level. The function of the PagBEE3 gene was investigated through the phenotypic analyses with PagBEE3-overexpressing (ox) transgenic lines. This work mainly focused on a potential role of PagBEE3 in stem growth and development of polar. The PagBEE3-ox poplar showed thicker and longer stems than wild-type plants. The xylem cells from the stems of PagBEE3-ox plants revealed remarkably enhanced proliferation, resulting in an earlier thickening growth than wild-type plants. Microarray analysis revealed that the expression of many genes involved in xylem cell proliferation and development was altered in the PagBEE3-ox plants. Therefore, this work suggests that xylem development of poplar is accelerated in PagBEE3-ox plants and PagBEE3 plays a role in the stem growth by increasing the proliferation of xylem cells to promote the initial thickening growth of poplar stems.

        PtRu Nanoparticle Electrocatalysts Prepared by Various Synthetic Methods for Use in Direct Methanol Fuel Cells

        The synthesis and characterization of carbon-supported PtRu nanoparticles were carried out by Impregnation and colloidal methods and products were compared with commercial carbon-supported PtRu. To confirm the characteristics of the synthesized PtRu nanoparticles, TEM (and EDX), XRD, and electrochemical analysis were performed to evaluate alloy formation, surface structure, chemical composition of the nanoparticles, and the electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation. The impregnation method was relatively easy and straightforward but the average particle size was in excess of 3 nm and the size distribution was broad. However, colloidal methods involved more complicated procedures and required a heat treatment to increase activity, resulting in an average particle size of up to 2.2~2.3 nm, The heating conditions used, to achieve a higher catalytic activity, were investigated. A simpler nanoparticle synthetic method that results in a small particle size and high activity without a heat treatment would be desirable.

        서울경기지역 대학생의 위기임신 지원정책 지지도 조사

        본 연구는 영아유기에 관련된 위기임신 및 출산 지원정책과 청소년 미혼부모 정책에 관한 대학생의 지지도를 살펴보고자 수행되었다. 2015년 5월부터 6월까지 서울경기지역의 미혼인 청년대학생에게 설문조사를 통해 자료를 수집한 서술적 조사연구가 수행되었다. 연구결과는 위기 임신과 출산 지원 및 전문적인 성교육을 통한 예방교육 실시, 현행 법령과 제도의 보완에 이르는 위기임신 및 출산정책 전반에 대학생의 지지율이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 청소년 한부모 정책 전반에 관해서도 대학생들은 지지적인 태도를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 청소년 한부모 정책 중 부모교육 및 경제적 교육, 재임신 예방을 위한 교육 정책에 관한 지지율은 다른 한부모 정책 지지율보다 높은 것으로 보고되었다. 종교유무에 따른 정책 지지도에 차이가 있었으며, 종교가 있다고 응답한 경우 그렇지 않은 경우보다 청소년 한부모 지원정책 중 다수 항목에서 지지율이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 토대로 위기임신 및 출산과 청소년 미혼부모 정책의 필요성에 관해 논의하고, 관련 정책의 개정 및 지원 서비스 구축을 위한 기초자료로 활용을 제안한다. The purpose of the study was to examine the support of crisis pregnancy policies among unmarried college student in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. All support rates of the crisis pregnancy and delivery policies were high, including support for crisis pregnancy and delivery, the preventive education through professional sex education and the law revision to compensate the existing legislation and system. There was supportive attitude for all adolescent single parenting policies. Especially, parent education and financial independence and education for preventing adolescent single parents from recurrent pregnancy showed a little higher support rate than others. Having a religion showed a higher support rate than atheist. Based on these findings, we will discuss the necessity of the policies of a crisis pregnancy and childbirth and the policies of unmarried adolescent parents. The results of this study could be used as a basic data for revision of relevant policies and establishment of support services.

        아버지의 온정적 양육행동이 아동의 학업수행능력과 학교적응에 미치는 종단적 영향: 유아기 또래놀이행동의 매개효과

        Objectives: Children’s Play plays a central role in their development, and a father’s participation in raising children is as important as a mothers. This study examined the extent to which fathers’ parenting behavior with their preschool children influenced their academic achievement and school adjustment through children’s’ peer play behavior during the period of transition to elementary school. Methods: Using the Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC), the present study included data on a total of 1,526 children and their father from 2013 (Time 6) to 2015 (Time 8). The hypothesized model was analyzed using structural equation modeling in Mplus 7.31. Results: Findings indicated that warmth of father’s parenting behavior at age five positively influenced children’s peer play behavior at age six, increasing interaction and reducing disconnection. It also influenced children’s school adjustment at age seven. Results indicated that the effects of the role of father’s warm parenting behavior on children’s academic achievement and school adjustment were mediated through peer play behavior. These results suggest the importance of father’s warm parenting behavior and children’s peer play behavior for their academic achievement and school adjustment during the transition to elementary school. Conclusion: These findings support the proposition that fostering a father’s parental warmth and encouraging children’s peer play would be a fruitful avenue to promote academic achievement and school adjustment during the transition to elementary school. In other words, this study explains the continuity of development from infancy to early school age and verifies that fathers’ parental warmth and children’s peer play in infancy are not limited to infancy through a series of long-term developmental pathways. Therefore, to improve school adaptation that affects social and cognitive development after entering elementary school, measures should be presented to support children’s play, and to support fathers’ warm parenting behavior in the future.

        이혼이 성인 남성과 여성의 우울 수준에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 패널분석모형을 이용하여 이혼이 우울 수준에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 연구를 위해 한국복지패널의 1-14차년도 자료를 사용하였다. 연구대상은 1차년도에 혼인 중이었으나 이후 이혼하였거나, 조사 내내 결혼상태를 유지한 20-79세 성인남녀이다. 연구 결과, 통합자료를 이용한 최소자승분석에서 사회선택 관점이 지지되었는데, 이혼한 남성과 여성 모두기혼상태를 유지한 이들보다 우울 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 고정효과모형에서는 이혼전이를 경험하면서 여성의 개인 내 우울 수준이 감소하는 것으로 나타나 사회원인 관점을 지지하였다. 그러나 남성은 고정효과모형에서 이혼 전이에 따른 우울 수준의 변화가 나타나지않았다. 이혼 전이가 개인 내 우울 수준에 미치는 영향에서 나타난 성별 차이는 이혼의 과정이 남성과 여성에게서 다르게 경험된다는 것을 의미한다. 또한 본 연구는 이혼자와 기혼자 집단 간 비교에 기반한 결과가 이혼 전이로 인한 개인 내 변화를 탐색한 결과와 다르며, 연구목적에 적합한 방법론의 적용이 필요함을 보여준다. This study aimed to investigate the association between divorce and depressive symptoms using longitudinal panel data analysis. Data were the first to fourteenth wave of Korean Welfare Panel Survey conducted in 2006-2019. Samples were Korean men and women aged 20-79 who were married in 2006 but divorced afterward or maintained their marital status throughout the survey. Results from pooled ordinary least squares analysis supported the social selection perspective because the results found that divorced men and women were more depressed than married men and women. Results from fixed-effects panel data analysis supported the social causation perspective because women reduced depressive symptoms with divorce transition. However, men did not show a change in depressive symptoms with the divorce transition. The gendered effects of divorce transition on depressive symptoms between men and women suggested that men and women undergo divorce transition differently.       • Prognostic implications of CD14 positivity in acute myeloid leukemia arising from myelodysplastic syndrome.

        <P>Secondary acute myeloid leukemia (s-AML) arising from myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) shows different clinical features from de novo AML. We assessed the prognostic significance of immunophenotypic markers in patients with s-AML arising from MDS. Sixty-five adults diagnosed with AML arising from MDS between 1996 and 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. Immunophenotyping was performed for markers including CD3, CD7, CD10, CD13, CD14, CD19, CD33, CD34, CD41, CD45, CD56, CD65, CD117, HLA-DR, and TdT. Of these immunophenotypic markers, only CD14 positivity was significantly associated with lower complete remission rate (P = 0.034) and significantly shorter overall survival (OS, P < 0.001) and event-free survival (EFS, P < 0.001) on univariate analysis. On multivariate analysis, these differences remained significant in terms of OS [hazard ratio (HR) 4.49; P < 0.001] and EFS (HR 4.06; P < 0.001). Other significant prognostic variables included age 60 years [shorter OS (P = 0.003) and EFS (P = 0.020)], higher WBC count (>60,000/μL) [shorter OS (P < 0.001) and EFS (P = 0.001)], and poor cytogenetic risk group [shorter OS (P = 0.005)]. CD14 expression on leukemic blasts is an independent prognostic factor for survival outcomes in patients with AML arising from MDS.</P>
