        Computer programs called "PCBRG" and "PCPST' were developed to analyze and design the prestressed concrete bridge. PCBRG is a structural analysis program which can determine the member forces, displacements and adaptable area of tendon by iteration method. PCPST is a post-processor for design. It enables design variables verified and the results of analysis (stress, member force and displacement, etc) are presented in the screen. Also the shear force and bending strength by the deformation compatibility method were checked.

        The system air-conditioner, which has one outdoor unit connecting several indoor unit units, can provide more energy saving and better environmental conditions than the conventional air-conditioning systems. But it is difficult to experimentally analyze behaviors of system air-conditioners due to various load conditions and combinations of indoor units. Therefore, it is important to develop a cycle simulation program for predicting the performance of system air-conditioners without complex experiments. The cycle simulation program for system air-conditioners consists of several subroutines for simulating indoor unit, outdoor unit, compressor, and expansion devices, and for estimating the thermodynamic and transport properties of the refrigerants and moist air. It was programmed with Digital Visual Fortran for the main simulation code and Visual Basic for the graphic user interface.

        전이지대 방언의 변이 양상 고찰 -서남방언과 동남방언의 접경지를 중심으로-

        본고에서는 서남방언과 동남방언의 접경지에 분포하는 변이형들을 접촉과 변이의 정도를 따라서 3가지 형태로 분류하여 정리하여 보았다. 1) 단어, 음절 단위의 차용과 변이(병렬, 혼효), 2) 음소 단위의 차용과 변이(자음, 모음 차용), 3) 제3유형으로의 변이 가능성을 살펴볼 것이다. 이 중 제3유형의 변이형들은 방언의 접촉과정에서 나타날 수 있는 ‘아래아(ㆍ) 변화의 방향’, ‘자음의 충돌과 변화’ 등에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시해 줄 수 있을 것이다. 그리고 만약 이러한 결과가 접촉의 과정에서 나타나는 변이의 모습으로 타당성을 가질 수 있다면 다른 방언 접경지의 수많은 변이형들을 재조명해 볼 수 있을 것이며, 다양한 환경에서 나타나는 국어의 음운변화 과정도 예측해 볼 수 있지 않을까 생각한다. I tried to find(prove) that any variation, which takes place when one dialect comes in contact with the other, does not take forms randomly but to any extent with direction and rules in Wi Pyeong-ryang(2005). And so I will confirm again that any variation keeps the head of the base of the former word and permits the tail of the other word depending upon the extent(degree) of each other’s influence through the distribution of ‘galkwi’(‘fork’) word forms. However, the causes of any variation are so varied and difficult to predict that any variation is varied and complex. It is difficult to conclude whether this aspect is the result of the contact of two dialects or the area’s particular aspects of the language of the area in question. This work will investigate(study) a lot of variations of the border lines of Jeallado and Gyongsangdo. These areas show the difference of west-southern dialect and east-southern dialect. The types of variation of these areas are 1) borrowing and variation of a word or a syllable 2) borrowing and variation of a phoneme (consonant, vowel borrowing) 3) the possibility of variation to the third type. I don’t jump to a conclusion that the new types, which are assumed to be the variations of the third type, resulted from the contact of the dialects. I will analyze these types based on the viewpoint of contact dialects. I will consider the possibility that we will predict the process of Korean phonologic changes if these changes are from the process of contact. Though this viewpoint is farfetched, I give(show) you(the readers) the chance of scrutinizing the reality of the variation of the contact areas.

        Detection of Serum IgA and IgE Antibodies in Experimental Animals Infected with Echinostoma hortense

        호르텐스극구흡층 피낭유충을 흰쥐 및 마우스에 경구 감염시킨 후 실험동물의 혈청 및 장액에 대한 IgA 및 IgE 항체가 변화 추이를 ELISA방법으로 비교 분석하였다. 감염 흰쥐에서 형청의 경우 IgA 및 IgE 항체가를 대조군과 비교해 볼 때 유의한 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 그러나 장액의 IgA 항체가는 감염 후부터 계속 증가하여 8주에는 최고치 (0.47±0.11)를 나타냈다. 감염 흰쥐에서 충체 회수율은 8주까지 계속 충체 수가 감소하는 경향을 보였는데 특히, 장액의 IgA 항체가 성적이 최고치를 나타낸 기간에 유의한 감소 성적을 나타냈다. 감염 마우스 혈청에서의 IgA 항체가는 감염 기간동안 계속적으로 증가하여 감염 8주에서 최고치 (0.45±0.01)를 보였으며, IgE의 경우는 감염 후부터 7주까지 증가하여 7주에서 그 최고치 (0.23±0.02)를 보였으나 그 이후 다시 감소되었다. 장액의 경우 IgA 항체가는 감염 후부터 증가하여 8주에서 최고치 (0.14±0.01)를 보였으며, 이는 혈청 IgA의 항체가 변화와 유사한 경향을 보였다. 감염 마우스의 충체 회수율은 감염 후부터 계속적으로 감소하였으며 7주와 8주에서 유의한 감소를 보였는데 (p<0.05) 이것은 장약에서의 IgA 및 IgE, 혈청에서의 IgA의 항체가 최고치를 나타낸 기간과 일치하였다. 이상의 결과에서 호르텐스극구흡충 감염 마우스에 있어서, IgA 및 IgE 항체가의 유무는 충체의 배출(expulsion)에 일부 연관되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. The change in mean absorbance values for IgA/IgE in rats and mice infected with Echinostoma hortense metacercariae was studied from the 2nd week to the 8th week after infection, Serum and intestinal Iuminal content (ILC) levels of IgA/IgE were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The mean absorbance values obtained from IgA in the rats' ILC increased from the 2nd week to the 8th week after infection. The peak value (0.47±0.01) appeared in the 8th week. The mean absorbance values of IgE in the rats' ILC didn't increase significantly (p>0.05). The worm recovery rate decreased at a slower pace after infection. The duration in which the peak value of IgA in rats' ILC appeared was similar to that in which the worm recovery rate declined significantly. Serum levels of IgA/IgE in mice increased gradually from the 2nd week after infection. The peak value (0.45±0.01) of IgA appeared in the 8th week, and that (0.23±0.02) of IgE appeared in the 7th week after infection. The ILC level of IgA in mice continued to increase after infection, and reached its peak in the 8th week. The change in IgA/IgE in the serum and IgA in the ILC of mice was inversely related to worm recovery rate. As a result of this experiment, it is supposed that IgA/IgE may play an important role in the expulsion of Echinostoma hortense.

        Fabrication of a Staircase Coil with Improved SNR and Image Uniformity by Structural Changes of a Conventional Birdcage Coil at 1.5T MRI

        The performance of radio frequency (RF) coils, used in MRI units, is determined by the image uniformity and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Birdcage and surface coils are commonly used. A birdcage coil provides a good image uniformity while a surface coil produces a high SNR. In this study, therefore, a staircase coil was designed from a standard version of a birdcage coil, with some structural changes to increase SNR while maintaining image uniformity. In phantom experiments, the improvement of the image to uniformity and the SNR increase of the staircase coil compared with the values for the birdcage coil were about 3.5% and 35%, respectively. In clinical experiment, the SNR increase of the staircase coil, compared with the value for the birdcage coil was about 40% in bone, muscle and blood-vessel tissues. These results show that the performance of the staircase coil was very improved over the standard birdcage coil in terms of SNR, and that image uniformity was maintained. Therefore, the staircase coil designed by this study should be useful in experimental and clinical l.5T MRI systems, and this coil offers an alternative method of quadrature detection.

        Secondary hyperparathyroidism due to multiple parathyroid carcinomas in a patient with chronic hemodialysis: a case report

        Parathyroid carcinoma (PC) in cases of secondary or tertiary hyperparathyroidism is relatively uncommon, and only a few case reports have described this entity. Although some papers have reported patients with one or two parathyroid malignancies, multiple PC–especially three or more–have been even more rarely reported. Herein, we report a case of secondary hyperparathyroidism due to multiple PCs in a chronic hemodialysis patient. A 54-year-old man with end-stage kidney disease was referred for hyperparathyroidism. He had been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2001 and had begun hemodialysis in 2009. In laboratory tests, intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) was markedly elevated to 1,144.1 pg/mL (normal range: 15.0–68.3 pg/mL) and serum calcium was mildly elevated to 10.56 mg/dL (normal range: 8.5–10.3 mg/dL). Ultrasonography showed hypoechoic nodules in the posterior part of both thyroid glands. All three nodules showed increased uptake on a 99mTc sestamibi scan. The patient underwent total parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation to the right forearm. Histopathology findings showed three PCs with capsular invasion and one parathyroid hyperplasia. In the immediate postoperative period, the iPTH level dropped from 1,446.8 to 82.4 pg/dL and, after 1 month, to 4.0 pg/dL. This patient needed oral calcium carbonate and active vitamin D to maintain appropriate serum calcium levels. Although multiple PCs are rare, they can cause secondary hyperparathyroidism. Therefore, clinicians should suspect multiple PCs when patients’ serum iPTH levels are exceptionally high. Additionally, since PCs could occur in multiple glands, autotransplantation of the parathyroid gland after parathyroidectomy should be done carefully.

      • Study on Weed Control in Upland Rice Fields

        In order to screen selective herbicides having excellent weed control effect without crop injury in upland rice field, a test on weed control with fifteen kinds of chemicals including MON.0385 was carried out according to their time and rates of application. The soil textural class of the test field was sandy loam. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1.No crop injury by treated chemicals except Simazine and Herban and no difference in initial crop injury between varieties were observed. In MON-0385 post-emergence treatment, initial crop injury was severe but the injury was fully recovered 50 days after treatment. 2. The chemicals which showed the most effective weed control rate for 70 days after treatment were MON-0385 at 6 kg/ha (PE*and POE**),4kg/ha (POE) and G-315 at 0.8 kg/ha (PE), and the chemicals which showed thorough control as observed 50 days after treatment were Swep at 4 kg/ha and Propanil. 3. Because Tongil variety was weak under drought weather condition, growth was not so good and yield was much affected due to the delayed heading stage (Sept,8∼10) by 10 days in comparison with Palgeong. The chemicals which showed the most increased yield against hand weeding were as follows. Palgeong: MON-0385-6kg/ha(PE and POE),Machete-3kg/ha, Swep-5kg/ha, G-315·0.6kg/ha(PE). Tonsil: MON-0385 6kg/ha (PE), MO-3kg/ha, TOK-3kg/ha, G-315-0.6 kg/ha, Machete-3kg/ha, MON-0385-2kg/ha (POE). ※PE: Pre-emergence treatmentn ※POE: Post-emergence treatment
