Methyl acrylate connects covalently with alkylpyridinium bromide to build N-alkyl-3-(2-methox-ycarbonyl-vinyl)pyridinium bromide (MPA-n, n = 8–14). MPA-n inhibited X70 steel from corrosion in5 M HCl with inhibition efficiency of 98% and the inhibition capacity was in the order of MPA-14 > MPA-12 > MPA-10 > MPA-8. Quantum chemical calculation unveiled that MPA-n adsorbed on iron surface byO atom in MA moiety offering electrons to d orbital of iron and by p* orbital of pyridinium acceptingelectrons from iron, and MPA-n with longer alkylchain possessed higher EHOMO, lower DE, largermolecular volume and dipole moment, all suggesting the same corrosion inhibition order as that inexperiments

With the intensity of resource scarcities and environmental problems, the disposal and recovery of spent lithium-ion batteries, especially recovery of valuable metals, becomes vital. In this work, a method of co-extracting nickel, cobalt, manganese and being separated from lithium by single-stage solvent extraction is proposed. The extraction and separation process of D2EHPA was studied. The effects of extractant concentration, saponification percentage, extraction time and O:A on the extraction efficiency of D2EHPA were systematically studied. Nearly 100% manganese, 94% cobalt and about 90% nickel were co-extracted and separated from lithium using D2EHPA in kerosene by single-stage extraction. The maximum value of separation factors (Ni/Li, Co/Li and Mn/Li) was 13.03, 23.42 and 1904.24. The mathematical model of extraction of four ions was developed by combination of Levenberg-Marquardt method and Universal Global Optimization method. The proposed extraction model accurately fits the experimental data and helps to predict the extraction efficiency of each metal under the corresponding conditions.

The unreduced (2n) gametes have long been used in triploid breeding of citrus. In lemon, the previously reported mechanisms for 2n megagametophyte formation were controversial, whereas that for 2n pollen production is still unknown. Herein, the frequency of and mechanism underlying 2n megagametophyte and 2n pollen formation in ‘Eureka’ lemon were investigated based on cytological observation and genotyping of the triploid hybrids between ‘Eureka’ lemon and ‘Early gold’ sweet orange. As a result, 4.79% of the viable pollens of ‘Eureka’ lemon were identified as the 2n pollen with a larger diameter (70.16 ± 3.92 μm). The 2n pollen might be resulted from the formation of parallel spindles at meiosis stage II. Among the 204 plantlets regenerated from embryo rescue following the sexual cross, 12 were triploids as identified by flow cytometry. According to the analysis of heterozygosity transmission using 13 pericentromeric single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and 20 randomly distributed simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, 11 triploids were identified to be originated from the fertilization of 2n megagametophytes of ‘Eureka’ lemon, with a frequency of 5.39%. Among them, nine 2n megagametophytes were supposed to be arisen from the second division restitution (SDR), whereas the other two were from postmeiotic genome doubling (PMD). These results to understand the mechanism underlying 2n gamete formation in lemon are valuable for its efficient polyploid breeding.
Postmenopausal Hormone Therapy is Associated with in Situ Breast Cancer Risk

Background: The relationship between postmenopausal hormone therapy (HT) and invasive breast cancer has been extensively investigated, but that with breast carcinoma in situ (BCIS) has received relatively little attention. The aim of our present study was to review and summarize the evidence provided by longitudinal studies on the association between postmenopausal HT use and BCIS risk. Methods: A comprehensive literature search for articles published up to May 2012 was performed. Prior to performing a meta-analysis, the studies were evaluated for publication bias and heterogeneity. Relative risk (RR) or odds ratio (OR) values were calculated using 14 reports (8 case-control studies and 6 cohort studies), published between 1986 and 2012. Results: There was evidence of an association between ever postmenopausal estrogen use and BCIS based on a random-effects model (RR = 1.25, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.01, 1.55). However, we found no strong evidence of an association between ever postmenopausal estrogen combined with progesterone use and BCIS using a randomeffects model (RR = 1.55, 95% CI = 0.95, 2.51). Furthermore, our analysis showed a strong association between "> 5 years duration" of estrogen or estrogen combined with progesterone use and BCIS. Furthermore, current use of any HT is associated with increased risk of BCIS in cohort studies. Additional well-designed large studies are now required to validate this association in different populations.
