        Mechanism underlying 2n male and female gamete formation in lemon via cytological and molecular marker analysis

        The unreduced (2n) gametes have long been used in triploid breeding of citrus. In lemon, the previously reported mechanisms for 2n megagametophyte formation were controversial, whereas that for 2n pollen production is still unknown. Herein, the frequency of and mechanism underlying 2n megagametophyte and 2n pollen formation in ‘Eureka’ lemon were investigated based on cytological observation and genotyping of the triploid hybrids between ‘Eureka’ lemon and ‘Early gold’ sweet orange. As a result, 4.79% of the viable pollens of ‘Eureka’ lemon were identified as the 2n pollen with a larger diameter (70.16 ± 3.92 μm). The 2n pollen might be resulted from the formation of parallel spindles at meiosis stage II. Among the 204 plantlets regenerated from embryo rescue following the sexual cross, 12 were triploids as identified by flow cytometry. According to the analysis of heterozygosity transmission using 13 pericentromeric single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and 20 randomly distributed simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, 11 triploids were identified to be originated from the fertilization of 2n megagametophytes of ‘Eureka’ lemon, with a frequency of 5.39%. Among them, nine 2n megagametophytes were supposed to be arisen from the second division restitution (SDR), whereas the other two were from postmeiotic genome doubling (PMD). These results to understand the mechanism underlying 2n gamete formation in lemon are valuable for its efficient polyploid breeding.

        Novel Model Predictive Control Method to Eliminate Common-mode Voltage for Three-level T-type Inverters Considering Dead-time Effects

        This paper proposes a novel common-mode voltage (CMV) elimination (CMV-EL) method based on model predictive control (MPC) to eliminate CMV for three-level T-type inverters (3LT2Is). In the proposed MPC method, only six medium and one zero voltage vectors (VVs) (6MV1Z) that generate zero CMV are considered as candidates to perform the MPC. Moreover, the influence of dead-time effects on the CMV of the MPC-based 6MV1Z method is investigated, and the candidate VVs are redesigned by pre-excluding the VVs that will cause CMV fluctuations during the dead time from 6MV1Z. Only three or five VVs are included to perform optimization in every control period, which can significantly reduce the computational complexity. Thus, a small control period can be implemented in the practical applications to achieve improved grid current performance. With the proposed CMV-EL method, the CMV of the $3LT^2Is$ can be effectively eliminated. In addition, the proposed CMV-EL method can balance the neutral point potentials (NPPs) and yield satisfactory performance for grid current tracking in steady and dynamic states. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

        Partition-based 3 + 2-axis tool path generation for freeform surface machining using a non-spherical tool

        When machining a complex freeform part, using a non-spherical tool could significantly improve the machining efficiency, as one can adaptively adjust the tool posture to maximize its contact area with the part surface. However, since adjusting the tool posture requires changing the tool orientation, a five-axis machine tool is needed, which is extremely expensive as compared to a conventional three-axis machine tool. Moreover, for a complex freeform surface with high curvature variation, to match its curvature change, the tool axis has to drastically change accordingly, thus inducing high velocity and acceleration on the machine tool’s rotary axes. To address these issues, in this paper we propose a partition-based 3 + 2-axis strategy for machining a general complex freeform surface with a non-spherical tool. As only a finite small number of distinct tool orientations are needed for 3 + 2-axis machining, an indexed three-axis machine tool suffices, thus relieving the need of an expensive five-axis machine tool. In addition, the much-increased rigidity of the three linear axes of the machine tool will greatly improve the kinematics and dynamics of the machine tool and thus enhance the machining accuracy. Experiments in both computer simulation and physical machining are carried out, whose results confirm that, when compared to using a conventional spherical cutter, by using a non-spherical cutter and adaptively adjusting the contacting tool posture and the feed direction, significant improvement in machining efficiency could be achieved, e.g., more than 50% achieved in our experiments.

        New Terminal Sliding Mode Consensus Algorithm for Disturbed Second-order Multi-agent Systems

        A finite-time adaptive tracking control algorithm based on non-singular terminal sliding mode (NTSM) is proposed to solve the consensus problem of second-order multi-agent system (MAS) with disturbance. Firstly, a finite-time disturbance observer based on NTSM is introduced to estimate and compensate the disturbance. Then, a NTSM adaptive controller is designed to enhance the robustness of the system, and improve the response speed and tracking accuracy. A proof of the finite-time convergence of the method is given by using Lyapunov theory. Finally, simulation experiments are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
