Backgrounds/Aims: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy (Ps–AH) based on portal ramification of the right anterior section (RAS) is a new technique to avoid unnecessarily transecting too much liver parenchyma, especially in cases of major anatomical hepatectomy. Methods: We prospectively assessed 26 patients with primary hepatic malignancies having undergone major Ps–AH based on portal ramification of the RAS from August 2018 to August 2022 (48 months). The perioperative indications, clinical data, intra-operative index, pathological postoperative specimens, postoperative complications, and follow-up results were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Among the 26 patients analyzed, there was just one case that had intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma The preoperative level of α– Fetoprotein was 25.2 ng/mL. All cases (100%) had Child–Pugh A liver function preoperatively. The ventral/dorsal RAS was preserved in 19 and 7 patients, respectively. The mean surgical margin was 6.2 mm. The mean surgical time was 228.5 minutes, while the mean blood loss was 255 mL. In pathology, 5 cases (19.2%) had microvascular invasion, and in the group of HCC patients, 92% of all cases had moderate or poor tumor differentiation. Six cases (23.1%) of postoperative complications were graded over III according to the Clavien–Dindo system, including in three patients resistant ascites or intra-abdominal abscess that required intervention. Conclusions: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy based on portal ramification of the RAS to achieve R0-resection was safe and effective, with favorable short-term outcomes. This technique can be used widely in clinical practice.

The mechanical properties, fracture behaviors and micro-mechnism of damage have been studied for three spheroidized steels. It is shown that void formation and growth induced by decohesion at the interface between the ferrite matrix and non-metallic particles or by particle cracking are the main reasons for the failure of these materials during plastic deformation. Experimental results show that the void volume fractions of these materials increase as strain increases, with the increasing rate being larger for the material with more carbide particles. Analytical expressions of strain hardening exponent and fracture strain for plastically damaged materials with second-phase particles are derived, and shown to be in good agreement with experimental data.

Battery diagnosis is vital to battery-based applications because it ensures system reliability by avoiding battery failure. This paper presents a novel intelligent battery charger with an online diagnosis function to circumvent interruptions in system operation. The charger operates in normal charging and diagnosing modes. The diagnosis function is performed with the impedance spectroscopy technique, which is achieved by injecting a sinusoidal voltage excitation signal to the battery terminals without the need for additional hardware. The impedance spectrum of the battery is calculated based on voltage excitation and current response with the aid of an embedded digital lock in amplifier in a digital signal processor. The measured impedance data are utilized in the application of the complex nonlinear least squares method to extract the battery parameters of the equivalent circuit. These parameters are then compared with the reference values to reach a diagnosis. A prototype of the proposed charger is applied to four valve-regulated lead-acid batteries to measure AC impedance. The results are discussed.

One new oleanane triterpene glycoside, ardinsuloside(1), and twelve known compounds, demethoxybergenin(2), norbergenin (3), bergenin (4), 4-O-galloylbergenin(5), quercitrin (6), myricitrin (7), myricetin 3-O-(300-O-galloyl)-a-L-rhamnopyranoside (8), desmanthine-2 (9), epicatechin3-O-galloyl ester (10), 30-methoxyepicatechin 3-Ogalloylester (11), gallic acid (12), and methyl galloate (13)were isolated from the leaves of Ardisia insularis. Theirstructures were established on the basis of spectral and chemicalevidence, which were in agreement with those reportedin literature. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds wereevaluated on three cancer cell lines namely A-549 (humanlung cancer), HT-29 (Human colon adenocarcinoma), andOVCAR (human ovarian carcinoma). The results revealedthat compound 1 inhibited A-549, HT-29, and OVCAR celllines with IC50 values of 8.5 ± 1.2, 16.4 ± 3.1, and13.6 ± 2.4 lM, respectively. The remaining compoundshowed weak cytotoxic activity. This result indicated thatcompound 1 could be useful in the treatment of cancer disease.

Myogenesis and adipogenesis are the important processes determining the muscle growth and fat accumulation livestock, which ultimately affecting their meat quality. Hanwoo is a popular breed and its meat has been exported to other countries. The objective of this study was to compare the myogenesis and adipogenesis properties in satellite cells, and meat quality between Hanwoo and Vietnamese yellow cattle (VYC). Same 28-months old Hanwoo (body weight: 728±45 kg) and VYC (body weight: 285±36 kg) steers (n=10 per breed) were used. Immediately after slaughter, tissue samples were collected from longissimus lumborum (LL) muscles for satellite cells isolation and assays. After 24 h post-mortem, LL muscles from left carcass sides were collected for meat quality analysis. Under the same in vitro culture condition, the proliferation rate was higher in Hanwoo compared to VYC (p<0.05). Fusion index was almost 3 times greater in Hanwoo (42.17%), compared with VYC (14.93%; p<0.05). The expressions of myogenesis (myogenic factor 5, myogenic differentiation 1, myogenin, and myogenic factor 6)- and adipogenesis (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma)-regulating genes, and triglyceride content were higher in Hanwoo, compared with VYC (p<0.05). Hanwoo beef had a higher intramuscular fat and total monounsaturated fatty acids contents than VYC beef (p<0.05). Whilst, VYC meat had a higher CIE a* and total polyunsaturated fatty acids content (p<0.05). Overall, there was a significant difference in the in vitro culture characteristics and genes expression of satellite cells, and meat quality between the Hanwoo and VYC.

Nd45-xCxFe30Co15Al10 (x = 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7) alloys were prepared by using a copper mold suction casting method. X-ray diraction (XRD) patterns show a trend of increasing crystallinity with increasing C content. In addition, crystallites with dierent shapes and sizes are observed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Multi-phase properties of the alloys are clearly exhibited on the magnetic measurements. The hysteresis loops of the lower C content alloys (x = 1 and 3) show a single-phase hard magnetic behavior with coercivities of 6.2 kOe while the loops of the higher C content alloys (x = 5 and 7) are supposing a multi-phase property with coercivities up to 7.2 kOe. Two magnetic-phase transitions, depending on the C concentration, appear in the thermomagnetization curves. Addition of C at low content (1 to 3 at.%) can improve the hard magnetic behavior of the Nd-(Fe, Co)-Al alloy.
