Phan, Nguyen Huu Toan,Thuan, Nguyen Thi Dieu,Ngoc, Ninh Thi,Thao, Nguyen Phuong,Kim, Sohyun,Koh, Young Sang,Thanh, Nguyen Van,Cuong, Nguyen Xuan,Nam, Nguyen Hoai,Kiem, Phan Van,Kim, Young Ho,Minh, Cha Pharmaceutical Society of Japan 2015 Chemical & pharmaceutical bulletin Vol.63 No.7
<P>Five new tirucallane saponins, paramignyosides A-E (1-5), were isolated from the water fraction of the Paramignya scandens stem and leaves. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence including high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS) and one dimensional (1D)- and 2D-NMR. The effects of isolated compounds on pro-inflammatory cytokines were evaluated by measuring the production of interleukin (IL)-12 p40, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs). Paramignyoside C (3) exhibited selective and potent inhibitory effect (IC50=5.030.19??M) on the production of IL-12 p40 comparable to that of the positive control, SB203580 (IC50=5.000.16??M). Further studies are required to confirm efficacy in vivo and the mechanism of anti-inflammatory effects.</P>

The world has witnessed the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic. Mainstream and social media are playing an important role in Covid-19 pandemic prevention. This research explores awareness, communication channels and effectiveness of communication in the Covid-19 pandemic in rural areas of Thua Thien Hue province, Central Vietnam. Primary information was collected from 181 respondents, who are farmers, non-farmers and students. Secondary information was collected from reports and statistical data. Television, word of mouth and local loudspeakers are the main channels of mainstream media while social media mentions the role of Facebook and Zalo to transfer Covid-19 pandemic information. Mainstream media is still the main channel of farmers and old people while non-farmers and young people tend to access information through social media. Communication has significantly contributed to improving awareness and action of rural people in the Covid-19 epidemic prevention.
A Fusion Approach Based ColorSiFT and Dense Trajectory Features for Video Event Recognition
Nguyen Thanh Dieu,Tran Anh Tuan,Pham The Bao,Bui Nogc Nam,Jin Young Kim 한국정보기술학회 2016 한국정보기술학회논문지 Vol.14 No.3
Event recognition plays an essential role to conduct a high-performing content based video retrieval system. Recently, Dense Trajectory Features has attracted much attention due to its effective encoding for motion features. On the other hand, beside the Gradient Image, ColorSIFT provide an option to extract the apparent model of interest targets. In order to develop a high-performing system, in this paper, we approach the fusion methods of appearance feature ColorSIFT and motion feature MBH, wich are following Dense Trajectory. After that, the model BoW (Bag of Words) is utilized to aggregate a feature set into a single vector. And then, SVM classifier is used to recognize them. Our approach gives the performance of early fusion classification of 95.1% that outperforms other conventional features under the UCF11 dataset.

The aim of this study is to evaluate phenol degradation capability of silver modified titanium dioxide nanomaterial on bentonite support (Ag-TiO2/Bent). The material was synthesized as photocatalyst by adding Ag-TiO2 sol into bentonite suspension. The experimental results revealed that photooxidation activity of Ag-TiO2/Bent was greatly higher than that of Ag-TiO2 and TiO2/Bent. The phenol removal efficiency was 23.25%, 35.41% and 98.94% for Ag-TiO2, TiO2/Bent and Ag-TiO2/Bent, respectively. The dispersion of silver modified TiO2 on bentonite support significantly enhances photocatalytic activity under solar radiation due to surface plasmon resonance formation and prevention of anatase-to-rutile phase transformation.

Organoclays were synthesized by exchanging inorganic cations between layers in Thanh Hoa bentonite using organic cations including benzylhexadecyldimethylammonium (BHDDM+), dimethyldioctadecylammonium (DMDOD+) and benzylstearyldimethylammonium (BSDM+). Inserting organic cations increases material interlayer distance significantly (from 15 A˚ to 40 A˚ ) and simultaneously enhances affinity of materials toward organic pollutants. The results show that adsorption capacity of organics on organoclays strongly depends on affinity between organic substances and ammonium cations rather than on interlayer distance of organoclays. This means that the sorption of organoclays for organic contaminants was significantly influenced by the nature of the surfactants added to the clay.

This study explores the adsorption of doxycycline (DOX) from aqueous solutions onto biochar derived from banana peel, which was prepared using a potassium hydroxide activation method (KOH-BPB). The biochar properties were characterized based on morphology, surface area (SBET of 710.241 ㎡ g−1), functional groups, and surface charge (pHPZC = 7.7). Parameters, including initial pH, DOX concentration, and ionic strength, that influenced the DOX adsorption capacity of KOH-BPB were examined. Adsorption equilibrium of DOX on KOH-BPB was assessed through four isothermal models: the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich models. The obtained data were most compatible with the Langmuir model (R² = 0.9879). KOH-BPB has a maximum DOX absorption capacity of 121.95 mg g-1 which exceeds that of many comparable absorbents. The maximum DOX removal was 96.7% at pH 6, a DOX concentration of 20 mg L-1, and a KOH-BPB dose of 1.0g L-1. These findings reveal that biochar from banana peel effectively removes antibiotic residues from water. This study provides a potential, low-cost, and environmentally friendly adsorbent.
Polarization of Colloidal CdSe Quantum Dots
Nguyen Quang Liem,Le Quang Phuong,Ung Thi Dieu Thuy,Tran Thi Kim Chi,Do Xuan Thanh 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.3
The effects of the polarization of colloidal CdSe QDs on the optical transitions are discussed based on systematic studies of a colloidal CdSe-based QDs system as a function of the net QDs' polarity/polarization and of the solvent's polarity. The polarization of the QD/ligand complexes makes them water-soluble after appropriate cleaning processes. The polarization of the bare CdSe QDs is reasonably thought to originate from dangling bonds at the surfaces of the dots. Passivation of the Se dangling bond by hydrogen generated from ultraviolet irradiation of the CdSe QDs in water is clearly observed to cause a spectral blueshift and a photoluminescence enhancement.

Because of the toxic glutaraldehyde, the chitosan-glutaraldehyde hydrogels are seriously limited inbiomedical applications. In this study, exploiting bioactive compounds of Aloe barbadensis Miller, the chitosan/Aloe barbadensis Miller-glutaraldehyde (CS/AV-GDA) hydrogels were fabricated with 4-fold lowerglutaraldehyde concentration without compromising hydrogel characteristics. The gelation time wascontrolled from a few seconds to several hours. The elastic modulus was varied from 483 to 99940 Pa. The CS/AV-GDA hydrogels could release the natural nitrite amount from 24.0 to 89.6 lM within the firsthour for antibacterial activity, then continuously deliver a few lM every next hour for cell activities. Theantibacterial test against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus revealed that the CS/AV-GDA hydrogelscould kill the planktonic bacteria 5-fold more highly than control and prevent bacteria attachmenton hydrogel surface effectively. Although the CS/AV-GDA hydrogels consumed only 0.25% glutaraldehydeconcentration, their antibacterial capacities were comparable to chitosan-only hydrogels with 2% glutaraldehyde. For cytotoxicity tests, the CS/AV-GDA hydrogels using 0.25% glutaraldehyde concentrationinduce the human dermal fibroblasts proliferation significantly. All CS/AV-GDA hydrogels with glutaraldehydecrosslinker less than 1% showed non-cytotoxicity. As a result, the new CS/AV-GDA hydrogelsmight become an attractive candidate for medicine regeneration and tissue engineering.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Ticks are vectors of various pathogens that affect humans and animals throughout the world. <I>Anaplasma bovis</I> is one of the most important tick-borne pathogens that cause cattle diseases but there is still very little information available about this agent in Korea. In the present study, 535 <I>Haemaphysalis longicornis</I> tick pools were analyzed from grazing cattle in five Korean provinces. <I>A. bovis</I> was detected in 50 (9.3%) of 535 tick pools using 16S rRNA-based PCR. <I>A. bovis</I> infections were detected for the first time in ticks feeding on cattle in Chungbuk, Geongbuk, and Jeonbuk provinces in Korea. The 50 positive PCR products were sequenced successfully and compared with sequences in GenBank. Phylogenetic analysis of the Korean isolates classified them into four genotypes with nucleotide sequence identities of 99.4–100%. Two of the four genotypes had high similarity (99.8–100%) with known sequences. The other two genotypes have never been identified.</P>
