Objectives. Antimicrobial activity of extract of prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten Makino; OFI) has been reported. This study examined effects of OFI extract on the growth of Streptococcus mutans. Methods. OFI was extracted by 85% methanol using an ultrasonic extraction method. The agar plate dilution method was used to count the CFU of viability of S. mutans KCTC 3065 that was determined by enumeration (colony forming units) in an agar dilution assay using no OFI (control), or 5, 20, and 50 mg/mL OFI following incubation for 0, 6, 12, and 24 h. The cytotoxicity of OFI extract (0, 5, 10, 20, 40, 50 mg/mL) was evaluated for human gingival fibroblasts by a formazan-based viability. Results. S. mutans growth was reduced by the OFI extract. The number of viable S. mutans was reduced significantly with increasing OFI concentration and incubation time (both p<0.001). The viable counts of S. mutans cultured with 20 and 50 mg/mL OFI decreased gradually but appreciably (>88.7%) by 6 h and no S. mutans remained when cultured with 50 mg/mL at 24 h. OFI concentrations of 40 and 50 mg/mL were cytotoxic to fibroblasts. Conclusions. OFI displays S. mutans inhibitory activity, and may be potential exploited as an oral hygiene agent for the prevention of dental caries.

Male breast cancer is rare, accounting for approximately 1% of breast cancers. Metastasis from extra-mammary malignancy to the breast in men is extremely rare. The most common primary tumors that metastasize to the breast in male are prostate, lung, stomach, colorectal cancer, melanoma, and sarcoma. To our knowledge, only a few cases of bladder cancer presenting with metastasis to the male breast have been reported, and metastasis with infiltration rather than mass is extremely rare. We report imaging findings on mammography and ultrasonography in a 59-year-old male with bladder cancer metastatic to the breast.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The effect of Ca element on the hot workability and microstructure evolution of AZ31 magnesium alloy was investigated. Conventional AZ31, AZ31+0.7wt.%Ca, and AZ31+2.0wt.%Ca alloys were tested. Electron back scattered diffraction microscopy revealed that the alloys containing Ca exhibited much finer and more homogeneous microstructure than the conventional AZ31 alloy. Hot compression and tensile tests showed that the Ca element generally increased flow strength and decreased ductility at low temperature. High temperature elongation was considerably improved by the operation of the thermally activated process. TEM work suggested that the large volume fraction of fine (Mg, Al)2Ca particles played an important role in preventing significant grain growth of the AZ31+2.0Ca alloy.</P>
Breast Cancer after Radiation Therapy in a Patient with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome: A Case Report

Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is an inherited autosomal-dominant tumor-predisposition disorder caused by germline mutations in the TP53 tumor suppressor gene. Since patients with LFS are likely to develop therapy-related cancers, radiation therapy should be avoided if breast cancer is found in these individuals. Herein, we present a case of secondary breast cancer in an LFS patient after radiation and chemotherapy for the first diagnosed breast sarcoma.
