This study concentrates an the trail of the CNU(Chungnam National University) forest. The amount of use and the pattern of damage are considered, as well as the extent of environmental damage. Finally, some managerial strategies are proposed in connection with sustainable maintenance. The trail of the university forest is composed of three sections; one is the neighborhood park and the Institute of Information Technology/Communications, the second is the Institute of Information Technology/Communications and the Dormitory, and the third section is the Dormitory and the Foreign prof's Apt. The total length of the trail is 2.6km. The daily amount of use is 1,269 visitors per day. The amount of using increased three times the amount of that in 1998. This study shows the pattern of damage of the trail in the order of root-exposure, widening, rock-exposure, deepening and the divergence in the frequency of occurrence of all these factors. Environmental damage is also graded thus: grade 3 is 27.4m, grade 4 is 0.8m, grade 5 is 1.5m, and grade 6 is 0.2m. Accordingly, some managerial strategies were proposed in connection with the sustainable trail maintenance.

<P>We demonstrated the InGaN/GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with SiO2 nanoparticles embedded in nanopillar GaN template. With the SiO2 nanoparticles placed between the GaN nanopillars, subsequent overgrowth of GaN layer started only on the exposed tips of the nanopillars and rapidly switched to the lateral growth mode. This resulted in a high quality GaN layer 'sitting' on the nanopillars and the layer of pores formed over the SiO2 nanoparticles. For multi-quantum-well LEDs grown on top of such template, ~3 fold increase in optical output was observed compared to reference samples. The effect is attributed mainly to the improved light extraction efficiency due to additional scattering in the nanopillars-SiO2-pores portion of the structure, also to the increased internal quantum efficiency caused by a decreased dislocation density and relaxed strain due to the GaN nanopillars.</P>
수준별 교육과정 체제에서 과학 교과의 효과적인 교수/학습을 증진시키기 위한 과학•기술•사회(STS) 수업 모형의 적용 방안에 대한 연구

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of modular STS instructional model on the science knowledge achievement and the positive science-related attitude of elementary students in the curriculum as one's level. For this study, the science knowledge test and the science-related attitude test were measured for 41 students to whom modular STS instructional model applied and another 46 students instructed traditionally as control group. The results of this study are as following* In the science knowledge achievement test, the mean score of the experimental group applied the modular STS instructional model was significantly higher than that of control group applied the traditional model at 0.001 level. In the science related-attitude test, there was no statistically significant difference between the score of the experimental group and that of control group. 본 연구 결과는 모듈식 STS 수업이 전통적 수업보다 과학 지식에 대한 이해도를 향상시키는데는 효과적이었으나 과학에 대한 태도를 긍정적으로 변화시키는 데 효과 적이지 못했던 것을 보여주었다. 이러한 결과는 태도가 단 기간의 수업에 의해서 쉽 게 변화하지 않는 것으로 해석할 수 있으며, 보다 장기간에 걸친 후속 연구가 필요함 을 시사해 준다. 또한 본 연구 결과에 기초해서 다음과 같은 직접적인 또는 간접적인 효과를 나타낼 것으로 기대할 수 있다. 첫째,모듈식 과학 • 기술 • 사회(STS) 수업 모형을 적용한 수업을 통해서 제 7차 과 학과 교육과정에서 과학 교육 목표로 중요시하는 과학 • 기술 • 사회(STS) 간의 상호 관계에 대한 올바른 이해를 증진시켜 미래 사회에서의 대처 능력을 길러 줄 수 있을 것이다. 둘째, 모듈식 과학 • 기술 • 사회(STS) 수업 모형의 적용 방안에 대한 연구결과를 효 과적으로 활용하면, 수준별 교육과정 체제에서 심화과정이나 보충과정의 과학 수업을 보다 효과적인 수업으로 이끄는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 셋째,과학 • 기술 • 사회(STS) 수업 모형을 적용한 수업을 통해서 과학을 싫어하는 학생이 과학을 좋아하는 학생으로 태도의 변화를 시킬 수 있을 것이다.
Metal Powder Injection Molding Process for Manufacturing Adapter Component

<P>Adapters are a component of the output system in the internally geared hub for a bicycle. Originally, adapter parts were produced by a machining process with low productivity and material usage rate. In this study, the metal powder injection molding (MIM) process has been applied as an alternative manufacturing method to the machining process. Microstructure analysis and mechanical property testing has been conducted in order to select the material for the adapter with changes in the nickel content. The geometrical precision of the adapter is measured by using three-dimensional scanner with various mixing ratios of the powder and the binder. The developed alternative process for the adapter results in increased productivity and material usage rate. Previously, this process was only used for small parts less than 10 mm in diameter. With this development, the MIM process may be used more widely than before.</P>

Background: Astringent persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb. cv. Kojongsi) peels are by-products of dried persimmons. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activities of Kojongsi persimmon peel (KPP) extracts prepared by 15 different extraction methods: 5 heating durations (0.5 - 2.5 h) at 3 heating temperatures (50, 70, and 90℃). Methods and Results: An increase in heating temperature increased the antioxidant effect of KPP extracts. Those prepared by heating at 1 h had the highest total phenol content, regardless of the heating temperature. In addition, the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity and cell-protective effects against H2O2-induced oxidative stress were dependent on the total phenol contents of the extract. However, the KPP-induced increased in catalase expression was dependent on heating temperature and duration. Conclusions: These results suggest that extraction by heating at 90℃ for 1 h may enhance KPP’s antioxidant effects, which mainly involve non-enzymatic antioxidant systems.
