Generalized SCAN Bit-Flipping Decoding Algorithm for Polar Code

Lou Chen,Guo Rui 한국인터넷정보학회 2023 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.17 No.4

In this paper, based on the soft cancellation (SCAN) bit-flipping (SCAN-BF) algorithm, a generalized SCAN bit-flipping (GSCAN-BF-Ω) decoding algorithm is carried out, where Ω represents the number of bits flipped or corrected at the same time. GSCAN-BF-Ω algorithm corrects the prior information of the code bits and flips the prior information of the unreliable information bits simultaneously to improve the block error rate (BLER) performance. Then, a joint threshold scheme for the GSCAN-BF-2 decoding algorithm is proposed to reduce the average decoding complexity by considering both the bit channel quality and the reliability of the coded bits. Simulation results show that the GSCAN-BF-Ω decoding algorithm reduces the average decoding latency while getting performance gains compared to the common multiple SCAN bit-flipping decoding algorithm. And the GSCAN-BF-2 decoding algorithm with the joint threshold reduces the average decoding latency further by approximately 50% with only a slight performance loss compared to the GSCAN-BF-2 decoding algorithm.

        Chen, Long,Li, Yanhui,Chen, Lina,Li, Na,Dong, Chenglong,Chen, Qiong,Liu, Beibei,Ai, Qing,Si, Pengchao,Feng, Jinkui,Zhang, Lin,Suhr, Jonghwan,Lou, Jun,Ci, Lijie Elsevier 2018 CHEMICAL ENGINEERING JOURNAL -LAUSANNE- Vol.345 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A flexible and free-standing graphene oxide and nylon 6 (GO@nylon 6) multilayer nanofiltration membrane was prepared by a layer-by-layer assembly process. The combination of electrospinning and electrospraying technique was employed, which can facilely prepare large-area membrane with size of 20 × 30 cm. The mechanical stability of multilayer membrane has enhanced significantly due to the tightly locked structure achieved by nylon 6 nanofibers network. The novel GO@nylon 6–13 multilayer nanofiltration membrane demonstrated a pure water flux up to 11.15 L m−2 h−1 bar−1, while keeping high organic dye rejection rate (>95% for methylene blue, and >99% for methyl orange). The rejections rate of the Na2SO4, NaCl, CuSO4, and Pb(NO3)2 were 56.5%, 27.6%, 36.7%, and 18.9%, respectively. Furthermore, GO@nylon 6–13 multilayer nanofiltration membrane also demonstrated a high flux of some common organic solvents (8.4, 5.3, and 0.8 L m−2 h−1 bar−1 for methanol, ethanol, and NMP, respectively), showing excellent chemical stability for separation process in those solvents.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Large-area GO@nylon 6 multilayer nanofiltration membrane was prepared. </LI> <LI> The multilayer structure enhances the mechanical stability. </LI> <LI> The multilayer membrane demonstrates a high water flux. </LI> <LI> The multilayer membrane shows high rejection rate for organic dyes. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Photograph and cross-section SEM image of GO@nylon 6 multilayer nanofiltration membrane, the inset shows the water contact angle.</P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Modeling of ductile fracture from shear to balanced biaxial tension for sheet metals

Lou, Y.,Chen, L.,Clausmeyer, T.,Tekkaya, A.E.,Yoon, J.W. Pergamon Press ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2017 International journal of solids and structures Vol.112 No.-

<P>A ductile fracture model is proposed to describe shear fracture of sheet metals from shear to balanced biaxial tension via uniaxial and plane strain tension. The fracture criterion models plastic damage as strain-induced void nucleation, triaxiality-governed void enlargement, Lode-controlled void torsion, and shear-restrained coalescence of voids. Its flexibility is investigated by a parameter study of the ductile fracture model proposed. The fracture model is employed to describe ductile fracture behavior of an aluminum alloy AA6082 T6 (thickness: 1.0 mm). Dogbone specimens are strained to characterize the strain hardening properties, while another four different specimens are tested to characterize fracture behavior in shear, uniaxial tension, plane strain tension and balanced biaxial tension. The loading processes are analyzed numerically with the stress invariant-based Drucker yield function which is for the first time specified for body-centered cubic and face-centered cubic metals. Fracture strains in various loading conditions are measured with a hybrid experimental-numerical approach. The measured fracture strains are then used to calibrate the ductile fracture model proposed. The ductile fracture model calibrated above is employed to predict the onset of ductile fracture for these four specimens. For the purpose of comparison, the predicted fracture strokes of these four loading conditions are compared with those predicted by the modified Mohr-Coulomb model (Bai and Wierzbicki, 2008), and two micromechanism-inspired criteria proposed recently (Lou et al., 2012, 2014). The comparison reveals that the proposed model predicts the fracture behavior in much better agreement compared with experimental results from shear to the balanced biaxial tension. Accordingly, the proposed ductile fracture criterion is recommended for the prediction of ductile fracture in sheet metal forming processes, optimization of forming parameters and design of tools for both solid elements and shell elements. Besides, the ductile fracture model proposed can also be applied in various bulk metal forming processes in case that the model is calibrated by proper sets of experiments. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. Fabrication of a Biodegradable Multi-layered Polyvinyl Alcohol Stent

        Mei-Chen Lin,Ching-Wen Lou,Jan-Yi Lin,Ting An Lin,Yueh-Sheng Chen,Jia-Horng Lin 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.8

This study aims to develop biodegradable vascular stents that prevent permanent damage caused by rejection of the immune system of the human body. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) yarns are twisted to enhance their strength. The twisted yarns are braided and then coated with chitosan (CS). The CS-coated PVA vascular stents are chemically crosslinked with genipin (GP) to improve their flexibility and biodegradability. Their morphological characteristics are also observed using a stereoscopic microscope, and their properties are evaluated through scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, bending test, biodegradability test, drug release measurement, and MTT assay. Results reveal that wet PVA-CS-GP vascular stents coated with multiple CS layers can maintain a tubular structure when they are bent. After crosslinking is performed, the compressive strength of the PVA-CS-GP stents is 17.04 times higher than that of pure PVA. The weight loss rate of the PVA-CS-GP vascular stents as <3 % after 30 days. The PVA-CS-GP vascular stents composed of 0.10 % heparin sodium show a good drug release effect. Biological activity test indicates that these stents exhibit good proliferation, and our structural model verifies that they are good vascular stents.

Endovascular Treatment for Iliac Vein Compression Syndrome: a Comparison between the Presence and Absence of Secondary Thrombosis

        Wen-Sheng Lou,Jian-Ping Gu,Xu He,Liang Chen,Hao-Bo Su,Guo-Ping Chen,Jing-Hua Song,Tao Wang 대한영상의학회 2009 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.10 No.2

Objective: To evaluate the value of early identification and endovascular treatment of iliac vein compression syndrome (IVCS), with or without deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Materials and Methods: Three groups of patients, IVCS without DVT (group 1, n = 39), IVCS with fresh thrombosis (group 2, n = 52) and IVCS with non-fresh thrombosis (group 3, n = 34) were detected by Doppler ultrasonography, magnetic resonance venography, computed tomography or venography. The fresh venous thrombosis were treated by aspiration and thrombectomy, whereas the iliac vein compression per se were treated with a self-expandable stent. In cases with fresh thrombus, the inferior vena cava filter was inserted before the thrombosis suction, mechanical thrombus ablation, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, stenting or transcatheter thrombolysis. Results: Stenting was performed in 111 patients (38 of 39 group 1 patients and 73 of 86 group 2 or 3 patients). The stenting was tried in one of group 1 and in three of group 2 or 3 patients only to fail. The initial patency rates were 95% (group 1), 89% (group 2) and 65% (group 3), respectively and were significantly different (p = 0.001). Further, the six month patency rates were 93% (group 1), 83% (group 2) and 50% (group 3), respectively, and were similarly significantly different (p = 0.001). Both the initial and six month patency rates in the IVCS patients (without thrombosis or with fresh thrombosis), were significantly greater than the patency rates of IVCS patients with non-fresh thrombosis. Conclusion: From the cases examined, the study suggests that endovascular treatment of IVCS, with or without thrombosis, is effective. • The Roles of Personal Innovation and Task Technology Fit in Mobile Payment Retention

Laddawan Kaewkitipong(Laddawan Kaewkitipong ),Charlie Chen(Charlie Chen),Shanshan Lou(Shanshan Lou) The International Academy of Global Business and T 2023 The International Academy of Global Business and T Vol.19 No.2

Purpose - This research aims to investigate the continuance intention of mobile payment services in Thailand based on the perceived innovativeness (PI) and task-technology fit (TTF) theories. The high attrition rate of mobile payment services in the market and lack of studies exploring the effect of personal attributes on continuance intention motivate the research. Design/Methodology/Approach - 544 Thai mobile payment users were surveyed. Relationships between mobile technology skills, perceived usefulness of mobile payment services, perceived ease of use, PI, TTF, and continuance intention were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings - The results indicate that perceived usefulness is the primary antecedent for TTF. Both TTF and PI were also found to have a significantly positive effect on the increase of continuance intention to use mobile payment services. Moreover, PI was found to have a strong negative moderating effect on the relationship between perceived task-technology fit and the continuance intention of using mobile payment services. Research Implications - The findings provide important insights for mobile payment service providers on how to effectively target users and increase the intention to continue using mobile payment services.

Static performance analysis of deepwater compliant vertical access risers

Lou, Min,Li, Run,Wu, Wugang,Chen, Zhengshou The Society of Naval Architects of Korea 2019 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.11 No.2

Compliant Vertical Access Risers (CVARs) are compliant systems that incorporate a differentiated geometric configuration that allows the exploitation of oil and gas in deepwater fields and enables a number of operational advantages in the offshore system. One of the main features of CVAR systems is that they allow direct intervention procedures to be applied to the well bore, enabling workover operations to be performed directly from the production platform. Based on the principles of virtual work and variation, a static geometric nonlinear equation of CVARs is derived and applied in this study. The results of this study show that the two ends of the riser as well as the transition region are subject to high stress, while the positions of the floating platform exert significant effects on the geometry of the riser configuration. Compliance and buoyancy factors should be set moderately to reduce the CVAR stress. In addition, the buoyancy modules should be placed in the lower region, in order to maximize the operation advantages of CVAR.

Experimental study on tuned liquid damper performance in reducing the seismic response of structures including soil-structure interaction effect

        Lou, Menglin,Zong, Gang,Niu, Weixin,Chen, Genda,Cheng, Franklin Y. Techno-Press 2006 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.24 No.3

In this paper, the performance of a tuned liquid damper (TLD) in suppressing the seismic response of buildings is investigated with shake table testing of a four-story steel frame model that rests on pile foundation. The model tests were performed in three phases with the steel frame structure alone, the soil and pile foundation system, and the soil-foundation-structure system, respectively. The test results from different phases were compared to study the effect of soil-structure interaction on the efficiency of a TLD in reducing the peak response of the structure. The influence of a TLD on the dynamic response of the pile foundation was investigated as well. Three types of earthquake excitations were considered with different frequency characteristics. Test results indicated that TLD can suppress the peak response of the structure up to 20% regardless of the presence of soils. TLD is also effective in reducing the dynamic responses of pile foundation.
