In recent days, the granulocyte transfusion is re-emerging because several investigators reported the effectiveness of large granulocytes (mord than 2×10^(10)per day) to control life-threatening infections for severe neutropenic patients. Application of continuous cell separators as well as erythrocyte sedimentation enhancing agents (hydroxyethylstarch, HES) made it possible to collect enough therapeutic number of granulocytes from a single donor. To increase the efficiency of granulocyte collection we gave G-CSF to normal donors at least 12 hours before harvest. Also, 10% pentastarch solution (low molecular weight-HES) which has minimal side effects compared with 6% hetastarch (high molecular weight-HES) was used to enhance erythrocyte sedimentation during centrifugation. We measured the vitro effect of HESs on the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) of peripheral whole blood depending their concentrations; the ESR (mm/hr) of 10% PS was significantly higher than that of 6% PS or HS(39.19±11.52 vs 11.62±7.26 or 15.23±6.86, p< 0.01) and that of PBS (5.17±2.85, p< 0.01). We compared the efficiency of granulocyte collection between G-CSF treated (n=9) and untreated (n=30) donors: the total number of granulocytes in the latter cases ranged 0.2 to 1.7×10^(10) (median 2.9×10^(10)) (p<0.01). Of interest, the peripheral WBC counts of donors when the counts were over 10,000/mm³ on the day of collection, correlated with the yield of granulocytes in the final products (r=0.75). Except one donors who had peripheral WBC count more than 10,000/mm³ without G-CSF, all cases showing peripheral WBC count over 10,000/mm³ had received G-CSF before collection. Furthermore, the WBC kinetics in G-CSF trealed donors showed that the peripheral WBC counts rose over 10,000/mm³ quickly (within 12 hours) and sustained during the period of injection. Among three neutropenic patients who had been received large dose grannlocgtes daily due to definitive critical infection, two patients (one in induction for ALL, and the other in early recovery phase of allogeneic BMT for severe aplastic anernia) recovered completely. However one who firstly diagnosed as SAA showed only temporary responses during granulocyte transfusion. Therefore, we suggest that (1) collection of large dose of granulocytes using a continuous cell separator with 10% PS is possible from a donor when pretreated by G-CSF, (2) such therapeutic granulocyte transfusion is effective to control life-threatening infections of severe neutropenic patients whose granulocyte counts are expected to recover within several days.

This paper describes satellites' three main stabilization techniques namely gravity gradient method, spin stabilization method and three-axis stabilization method. In conjunction with the methods, dynamic modelling and simulation was performed to characterize the pointing performance of each method. The trade-off between the methods was also compared in the sense of accuracy and complexity.

웹 어플리케이션의 급속한 성장으로 말미암아 객체지향 기술 및 방법론에 대한 중요성이 급격히 증가해 왔으며, 많은 객체지향 방법론들이 제시되어 왔다. 이와 더불어 97년 말에 Rational 사의 UML 이 OMG 의 표준 객체지향 방법론으로 채택되었다. 그러나 OMG 의 UML 에 대한 공식적인 승인에도 불구하고 UML 을 표준으로 인정하지 않으려는 움직임이 존재하고 있으며, UML 자체가 다른 방법론에서 제공하는 기법들과의 병용을 권장하고 있기 때문에 기존의 방법론들에 대한 연구는 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는 UML 과 기존의 대표적인 객체지향 분석설계 기법들인 Booch 의 방법론, Rumbaugh 의 OMT, Jacobson 의 OOSE, Wirfs-Brock 의 방법론들을 비교함으로써 객체 지향 방법론을 이용한 분석, 설계 과정에서 적용 가능한 절차를 제시한다.
BitTorrent 기반의 Mesh-Pull 구조에서 라이브 스트리밍 성능 개선을 위한 선택적인 HAVE 메시지 전송 방법

BitTorrent 는 파일 공유를 위하여 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 P2P (Peer to Peer)프로토콜로서, Mesh-Pull 구조를 채용하여 라이브 스트리밍에 대한 연구가 꾸준히 이루어지고 있다. BitTorrent 에서는 Peer Wire Protocol 을 사용하여 피어들간에 파일조각들을 교환하게 되는데, 이를 위하여 주기적으로 버퍼맵 정보를 HAVE 메시지를 사용하여 브로드캐스트 하는데, 피어의 수가 증가할수록 이로 인한 시그널링 오버헤드가 크게 증가하는 문제를 갖고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 극복하고 라이브 스트리밍의 성능을 개선하기 위하여 HAVE 메시지를 선택적으로 전송하는 방법을 제안한다. 실험을 통하여, 제안 방식은 기존의 BitTorrent 기반 Mesh-Pull 구조를 채용하는 라이브 스트리밍 방식과 비교하여 HAVE 메시지의 브로드캐스트로 인한 시그널링 오버헤드를 비약적으로 줄일 수 있음을 보였다.
Expression and Regulation of Osteoprotegerin in Adipose Tissue

<P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>Osteoprotegerin (OPG), a potent inhibitor of osteoclastic bone resorption, has a variety of biological functions that include anti-inflammatory effects. Adipocytes and osteoblasts share a common origin, and the formation of new blood vessels often precedes adipogenesis in developing adipose tissue microvasculature. We examined whether OPG is secreted from adipocytes, therefore contributing to the prevention of neovascularization and protecting the vessels from intimal inflammation and medial calcification.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>The mRNA expression of OPG and receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL) was measured in differentiated 3T3L1 adipocytes and adipose tissues.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>OPG mRNA expression increased with the differentiation of 3T3L1 adipocytes, while RANKL expression was not significantly altered. OPG mRNA was expressed at higher levels in white adipose tissue than in brown adipose tissue and was most abundant in the epididymal portion. In differentiated 3T3L1 adipocytes, Rosiglitazone and insulin reduced the OPG/RANKL expression ratio in a dose- and time-dependent manner. In contrast, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) increased the expression of both OPG and RANKL in a time-dependent manner. The OPG/RANKL ratio was at a maximum two hours after TNF-α treatment and then returned to control levels. Furthermore, OPG was abundantly secreted into the media after transfection of OPG cDNA with Phi C31 integrase into 3T3L1 cells.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Our results indicate that OPG mRNA is expressed and regulated in the adipose tissue. Considering the role of OPG in obesity-associated inflammatory changes in adipose tissue and vessels, we speculate that OPG may have both a protective function against inflammation and anti-angiogenic effects on adipose tissue.</P>
