<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Inorganic nanocrystals with certain geometries exhibit unique shape dependent phenomena and subsequent utilization of them as building blocks for the key components of nanodevices is of huge interest. Architecture of these nanocrystals can be simply classified by their dimensionalities: zero-dimensional (0D) quantum dots including spheres, cubes, and tetrahedrons, one-dimensional nanorods and wires, two-dimensional (2D) nanodiscs and plates, and other advanced shapes such as rod-based multipods and nanostars. Among them, one-dimensional (1D) structures are of current interest in materials chemistry not only because they exhibit novel optical properties arising from dimensional anisotropy, but also because they can be utilized as key materials in addressable two-terminal circuits for nanodevice applications. We describe here the current studies on a variety of one-dimensional semiconductor and metal oxide nano-building blocks obtained by liquid phase colloidal synthetic methods. Several mechanisms and critical parameters for nanocrystal shape guiding processes are carefully examined. Once we understand the guiding laws of nanocrystals growth, many new nano-building blocks will easily be tailored for the discovery of novel phenomena and also further exciting advancement of nanoscience and nanotechnology.</P>

MEASURING THE FISCAL BURDEN OF FINACIAL RESTRUCTURING

THIS PAPER PRESEINTS ESTIMATES OF THE ACTUAL FISCAL ASSOCIATED WITH FINANCIAL SECTOR RESTRUCTURING IN KOREA, CALCULATED ON AN ANNUAL CASH-FLOW BASIS. THE FISCAL COSTS OF FINANCIAL RESTRUCTURING PRIMARILY CONSIST OF THE ANNUAL INTERST PAYMENTS ON THE NET DEBT AND THE REALIZED LOSSES FROM THE SALE OF COLLATERAL, SHARES, AND ASSETS OF RESTRUCTURED FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS. ACCORDING TO OUR RESULTS, THE TOTAL FISCAL COSTS OF RESOLVING THE NON-PERFORMING ASSETS, WHICH SHOULD BE REFLECTED IN THE BUDGET OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS, MAY REACH SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 79 TRILLION WON AND 110 TRILLION WON, WHICH AMOUNT TO 15.4% AND 21.4% OF THE CURRENT GDP. FISCAL COSTS OF THOSE MAGNITUDES ADVERSELY AFFECT THE FISCAL BALANCE AND THE DEBT POSITION. WHILE THE GOVERNMENT DEBT IN KOREA IS LIKELY TO BE SUSTAINABLE AS LONG AS HIGH TO MODERATE ECONOMIC GROWTH CONTINUES, GREATER RESTRUCTURING FUND LOSSES AND AN ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN COULD WORSEN SUSTAINABILITY.
인공신경망을 이용한 고장 심각도에 따른 무인기용 유성감속기의 고장진단 연구

Purpose: Gear teeth in the rotary geared actuator of the unmanned aerial vehicle, experience crack propagation because of its harsh operating conditions. To prevent the failure of catastrophic events, this study proposes a diagnostic approach for various gear crack levels based on the built-in and add-on sensor signal. Methods: A downsized planetary gearbox test rig was prepared, in which the motor position, current, and vibration signals were acquired for the normal and 4 different crack-induced states. Signals were filtered around the region of resonance frequencies by spectral kurtosis and the features for the health state were extracted. Then, feature selection was conducted based on the correlation with fault levels. Finally, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was constructed to identify different fault sizes of the cracks, and K-fold validation was adopted to optimize the parameters of the ANN model. Results: Among the various signals, the vibration from the add-on sensor and a position from the built-in sensor exhibited high performance compared to the current signal. The features after band-pass filtering yielded a high correlation with fault severity. Conclusion: The proposed method successfully diagnosed different fault severities of gear cracks in the planetary gearbox by using both the built-in and add-on signals.

The three way catalyst NOx trap catalyst (TWC-NT) is consisted of a conventional three way catalyst (TWC) compositions and NOx storage material (NSM) to mitigate NOx breakthrough occurred during the fuel cut event to improve fuel economy of stoichiometric (A/F=14.6) gasoline powered vehicles. Typical fuel cut operation generates very lean exhaust mixture that oxidizes the catalyst surface in TWC system, and NOx is slipped on the oxygen rich catalyst surface when the engine is switched back to the stoichiometric air to fuel ratio. The fully batch formulated TWC and TWC-NT catalyst were prepared and aged on engine dynamometer equivalent to 150,000 miles at underfloor location. The aged catalysts was evaluated at LEV-3 SULEV30 passenger car to check their effects on NOx efficiency, fuel saving and N2O suppression ability. The results revealed TWC-NT showed higher NOx removal performance by 71 % with multiple the fuel cuts and O2 purge period through the thermally enhanced NOx storage and reduction function, and 2 % higher fuel economy on FTP-75 cycle than the conventional TWC. Also the catalyst had good N2O suppression ability by the removal of NOx as the main reactant of N2O formation in the exhaust gas reactions over catalyst.
