        Alpha radionuclide-chelated radioimmunotherapy promoters enable local radiotherapy/chemodynamic therapy to discourage cancer progression

        Background: Astatine-211 is an α-emitter with high-energy α-ray and high cytotoxicity for cancer cells. However, the targeted alpha therapy (TAT) also suffers from insufficient systematic immune activation, resulting in tumor metastasis and relapse. Combined immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) with chemodynamic therapy (CDT) could boost antitumor immunity, which may magnify the immune responses of TAT. This study aims to discourage tumor metastasis and relapse by tri-model TAT-CDT-ICB strategy. Methods: We successfully designed Mn-based radioimmunotherapy promoters (211At-ATE-MnO2-BSA), which are consisting of 211At, MnO2 and bovine serum albumin (BSA). The efficacy of 211At-ATE-MnO2-BSA was studied as monotherapy or in combination with anti-PD-L1 in both metastatic and relapse models. The immune effects of radioimmunotherapy promoters on cytotoxic T lymphocytes and dendritic cells (DCs) were analyzed by flow cytometry. Enzymelinked immunosorbent assay and immunofluorescence were used to explore the underlying mechanism. Results: Such radioimmunotherapy promoters could not only enhance the therapeutic outcomes of TAT and CDT, but also induce robust anti-cancer immune activity by activating dendritic cells. More intriguingly, 211At-ATE-MnO2-BSA could effectively suppress the growths of primary tumors and distant tumors when combined with immune checkpoint inhibitors. Conclusions: The tri-model TAT-CDT-ICB strategy provides a long-term immunological memory, which can protect against tumor rechallenge after eliminating original tumors. Therefore, this work presents a novel approach for TATCDT-ICB tri-modal cancer therapy with repressed metastasis and relapse in clinics.

        Transcriptome comparative analysis between the cytoplasmic male sterile line and fertile line in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.)

        To further elucidate the molecular mechanism and fertility restoration of cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) in soybean, a comparative transcriptome analysis was conducted between the CMS line NJCMS1A, restorer line NJCMS1C and their hybrid F1 progeny (NJCMS1A × NJCMS1C) using RNA-Seq strategy. After pairwise comparative analysis of these soybean lines, 294, 222, and 288 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, respectively. Further bioinformatic analysis indicated that these DEGs were involved in diverse molecular functions and metabolic pathways. qRT-PCR analysis validated that the gene expression pattern in RNA-Seq was reliable. These results significantly showed that the male sterility and fertility restoration in NJCMS1A might be related to a series of the abnormal of growth development and metabolic processes, such as pollen development, DNA methylation process, pollen viability, cell wall development, programmed cell death, as well as carbohydrate and energy metabolism. This study could facilitate our understanding of the molecular mechanisms and fertility restoration behind CMS in soybean.

        Reliability Assessment of Distribution Network Considering Mobile Energy Storage Vehicles and Dynamic Zonal Coupling

        Mobile energy storage spatially and temporally transports electric energy and has fexible dispatching, and it has the potential to improve the reliability of distribution networks. In this paper, we studied the reliability assessment of the distribution network with power exchange from mobile energy storage units, considering the coupling diferences among diferent time and zones of the vehicle–road–network system. First, we constructed a basic mobile energy storage operation framework that supports the distribution network reliability. Next, we proposed a quantitative model to describe the dynamic zonal coupled vehicle–road–network system. Based on this model, the corresponding charging and discharging scheduling strategies for diferent mobile energy storage units are well designed to improve the efciency of power support. Then, we provided a distribution network reliability assessment algorithm handling the power exchange from mobile energy storage units. Finally, we used the IEEE 33-node example system to clarify the necessity of the vehicle–road–network model in accounting for dynamic zonal coupling. We also analyzed the impact of diferent characteristics of mobile energy storage on the reliability of the distribution network, and verifed that one can improve the distribution network reliability by increasing the response speed, power capacity, or charging/discharging power of mobile energy storage vehicles.

        Facile preparation and characterization of tough poly(vinyl alcohol) organohydrogels with low friction and self-cleaning properties

        Although many hydrogels have been applied to wearable sensors, it is still challenging to simultaneouslyrealize hydrogels with optical transparency, superior mechanical properties, excellent sensing performance,and anti-freezing by using inexpensive raw materials and an easy preparation process. Herein,using ethylene glycol/H2O (EG/ H2O) as a solvent, poly(vinyl alcohol)/EG organohydrogel (PVA/EGOHG) was prepared by a simple heating and frozen-thawing method. Owing to the multifunctionalityof EG (i.e., physical cross-linker, anti-freezer and co-solvent), PVA/EG OHG demonstrated excellent integratedproperties, including high strength, high toughness, and anti-freezing performances. Besides, PVA/EG OHG also showed low friction, self-cleaning, and frost resistance properties. After the introduction ofLiCl, ionically conductive PVA/EG @LiCl organohydrogel was served as a self-cleaning strain sensor, whichcould be long-term stable to detect the motions of human under room and low temperatures. The studyprovides to further understanding of the organohydrogel, which will help us design next-generationhigh-performance organohydrogels.

        Potential application of ginseng in sepsis: Applications of ginseng in sepsis

        Sepsis and septic shock affect millions of people worldwide each year with high clinical mortality rates. At present, basic research on sepsis has emerged in an endless stream, but there are few effective clinical translation results. Ginseng, a medicinal and edible representative of Araliaceae plants, contains a variety of biologically active compounds including ginsenosides, alkaloids, glycosides, polysaccharides, and polypeptides. Neuromodulation, anticancer activity, blood lipid regulation, and antithrombotic activity have been linked to ginseng treatment. At present, basic and clinical research have suggested various applications of ginseng in sepsis. In view of the different effects of various ginseng components on the pathogenesis of sepsis, and in order to further understand and develop the possible value of ginseng in sepsis, this manuscript reviews the application of various components of ginseng in the treatment of sepsis in recent years.

        Degradation behavior of deep UV-LEDs studied by electro-optical methods and transmission electron microscopy

        Degradation mechanism of 265-nm deep ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UV-LEDs) has been investigated by means of electroluminescence, current-voltage measurement, capacitance-voltage measurement, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDAX). It is revealed that a major degradation mode of UV-LEDs may be the leakage current induced optical degradation. The current pathway is demonstrated by TEM with EDAX, indicating that the contact metals can partially interact with ptype materials, which accelerate the degradation of LEDs. The presented results can help to understand the degradation mechanisms and improve the reliability of deep UV-LEDs.

      • Damage localization and quantification of a truss bridge using PCA and convolutional neural network

        Deep learning algorithms for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) have been extracting the interest of researchers and engineers. These algorithms commonly used loss functions and evaluation indices like the mean square error (MSE) which were not originally designed for SHM problems. An updated loss function which was specifically constructed for deep-learningbased structural damage detection problems has been proposed in this study. By tuning the coefficients of the loss function, the weights for damage localization and quantification can be adapted to the real situation and the deep learning network can avoid unnecessary iterations on damage localization and focus on the damage severity identification. To prove efficiency of the proposed method, structural damage detection using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) was conducted on a truss bridge model. Results showed that the validation curve with the updated loss function converged faster than the traditional MSE. Data augmentation was conducted to improve the anti-noise ability of the proposed method. For reducing the training time, the normalized modal strain energy change (NMSEC) was extracted, and the principal component analysis (PCA) was adopted for dimension reduction. The results showed that the training time was reduced by 90% and the damage identification accuracy could also have a slight increase. Furthermore, the effect of different modes and elements on the training dataset was also analyzed. The proposed method could greatly improve the performance for structural damage detection on both the training time and detection accuracy.

        Polyetheretherketone implants with hierarchical porous structure for boosted osseointegration

        Background Good osseointegration is the key to the long-term stability of bone implants. Thermoplastic polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has been widely used in orthopedics; however, its inherent biological inertia causes fibrous tissue to wrap its surface, which leads to poor osseointegration and thus greatly limits its clinical applications. Methods Herein, we developed a facile yet effective surface modification strategy. A commonly used sulfonation coupled with “cold pressing” treatment in the presence of porogenic agent formed a three-dimensional hierarchical porous structure on PEEK surface. Subsequently, the effects of porous surface on the in vitro adhesion, proliferation and differentiation of rat bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) were evaluated. Finally, the osteoinduction and osseointegration of surface-porous PEEK implant were examined in the rat distal femoral defect model. Results In vitro results showed that the surface modification did not significantly affect the mechanical performance and cytocompatibility of PEEK substance, and the porous structure on the modified PEEK substrate provided space for cellular ingrowth and enhanced osteogenic differentiation and mineralization of BMSCs. In vivo tests demonstrated that the surface-porous PEEK implant could effectively promote new bone formation and had higher bone-implant contact rate, thereby achieving good bone integration with the surrounding host bone. In addition, this modification technique was also successfully demonstrated on a medical PEEK interbody fusion cage. Conclusion The present study indicates that topological morphology plays a pivotal role in determining implant osseointegration and this facile and effective modification strategy developed by us is expected to achieve practical applications quickly.

        <P>A pyrrolyl-based triazolophane, incorporating CH and NH donor groups, acts as a receptor for the pyrophosphate anion in chloroform solution. It shows selectivity for this trianion, followed by HSO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>−</SUP> > H<SUB>2</SUB>PO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>−</SUP> > Cl<SUP>−</SUP> > Br<SUP>−</SUP> (all as the corresponding tetrabutylammonium salts), with NH−anion interactions being more important than CH−anion interactions.
