      • The Analysis of New Generation S-DMB system

InKi Lee,DaeIg Chang 대한전자공학회 2007 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2007 No.7

Current S-DMB service in the Korea, one of such personal mobile multimedia services, provides broadcasting with 11 video and 26 audio channels. To provide this service more differently from other multimedia services, enhancement in transmission quality or increase in transmission bandwidth is requested. But this enhancement(or increase) should be Backwards Compatible(BC) to the legacy system for saving system migration expenses. In this paper, we propose a method for enhancing transmission quality or bandwidth, using H- 16APSK for BC and LDPC for powerful channel code. As the enhancement in transmission rate can be allowed as far as the resulted performance degradation and the resulted increase in transmission rate have been simulated and analyzed.

      • Novel peptides functionally targeting in vivo human lung cancer discovered by in vivo peptide displayed phage screening.

        Lee, Kyoung Jin,Lee, Jae Hee,Chung, Hye Kyung,Choi, Jinhyang,Park, Jaesook,Park, Seok Soon,Ju, Eun Jin,Park, Jin,Shin, Seol Hwa,Park, Hye Ji,Ko, Eun Jung,Suh, Nayoung,Kim, InKi,Hwang, Jung Jin,Song, S Springer-Verlag ; Springer 2015 Amino acids Vol.47 No.2

<P>Discovery of the cancer-specific peptidic ligands have been emphasized for active targeting drug delivery system and non-invasive imaging. For the discovery of useful and applicable peptidic ligands, in vivo peptide-displayed phage screening has been performed in this study using a xenograft mouse model as a mimic microenvironment to tumor. To seek human lung cancer-specific peptides, M13 phage library displaying 2.9 ?? 10(9) random peptides was intravenously injected into mouse model bearing A549-derived xenograft tumor through the tail vein. Then the phages emerged from a course of four rounds of biopanning in the xenograft tumor tissue. Novel peptides were categorized into four groups according to a sequence-homology phylogenicity, and in vivo tumor-targeting capacity of these peptides was validated by whole body imaging with Cy5.5-labeled phages in various cancer types. The result revealed that novel peptides accumulated only in adenocarcinoma lung cancer cell-derived xenograft tissue. For further confirmation of the specific targeting ability, in vitro cell-binding assay and immunohistochemistry in vivo tumor tissue were performed with a selected peptide. The peptide was found to bind intensely to lung cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo, which was efficiently compromised with unlabeled phages in an in vitro competition assay. In conclusion, the peptides specifically targeting human lung cancer were discovered in this study, which is warranted to provide substantive feasibilities for drug delivery and imaging in terms of a novel targeted therapeutics and diagnostics.</P>

Comparison of 99m Tc-methyl diphosphonate bone scintigraphy and 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography to predict histologic response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with osteosarcoma

        Lee, Inki,Byun, Byung Hyun,Lim, Ilhan,Kim, Byung Il,Kong, Chang-Bae,Song, Won Seok,Cho, Wan Hyeong,Koh, Jae-Soo,Lim, Sang Moo Williams & Wilkins Co 2018 Medicine Vol.97 No.37

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We compared the usefulness of 99mTc-methyl diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) bone scintigraphy and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) for positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in predicting histologic response in patients with osteosarcoma receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).</P><P>We retrospectively reviewed 62 patients with high-grade osteosarcoma who had received 2 cycles of NAC and surgery. All patients underwent 99mTc-MDP bone scintigraphy and 18F-FDG PET/CT before and after NAC. 99mTc-MDP uptake in the primary tumor was measured quantitatively as the maximum tumor-to-nontumor ratio (T/NTmax) and 18F-FDG uptake was measured as the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), before and after NAC. The percent changes of T/NTmax (percent changes of the maximum tumor-to-nontumor ratio [Δ%T/NTmax]) and SUVmax (percent changes of the maximum standardized uptake value [Δ%SUVmax]) after NAC were calculated and the correlations between these parameters were evaluated. After surgery, the effects of NAC were graded histopathologically (good vs poor) and the optimum cut-off values of Δ%T/NTmax and Δ%SUVmax for predicting histologic response were assessed using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.</P><P>Δ%T/NTmax and Δ%SUVmax were positively correlated with each other (<I>r</I> = 0.494, <I>P</I> < .01). Based on the ROC curve analysis, both Δ%T/NTmax (area under the curve [AUC] = .772, <I>P</I> < .01) and Δ%SUVmax (AUC = .829, <I>P</I> < .01) predicted good histologic response. However, there was no significant difference between the AUCs of Δ%T/NTmax and Δ%SUVmax (<I>P</I> = .44). The sensitivity and specificity for predicting good histologic response were 83.3% and 75.0%, for the criterion Δ%T/NTmax <–12.5%, and 80.0% and 81.3% for the criterion Δ%SUVmax <−49.0%, respectively.</P><P>The 99mTc-MDP bone scan and 18F-FDG PET scan are non-inferior to each other in predicting the histologic response of osteosarcoma treatments. The 99mTc-MDP bone scan and 18F-FDG PET scan showed respective advantages with differing features. Therefore, physicians should consider which scan is appropriate for their own institute based on the advantages of each scan and the circumstances of the institute.</P>

        Jo-Eun Lee(이조은),Pingjuan Wang(왕평연),Gyungyun Kim(김경연),Sunghan Kim(김성한),Suhyoung Park(박수형),Yong-Soo Hwang(황용수),Yong-Pyo Lim(임용표),Eun Mo Lee(이은모),InKi Ham(함인기),Man Hyun Jo(조만현),Gilhwan An(안길환) 한국원예학회 2010 원예과학기술지 Vol.28 No.3

글루코시놀레이트의 일종인 gluconasturtiin(18.33 vs. 1.16nmol · g?¹ wet weight)과 gluconapin(145 vs. 2nmol · g?¹ wet weight) 은 높은 pH 토양의 배추에서 낮은 pH 것보다 의미 있게 높았다. The contents of functional and nutritional components of 13 cultivars of Chinese cabbage (CC, Brassica rapa subspecies campestris) were analyzed to compare the effects of soil pH of the greenhouse (pH 6.2) and outdoor (pH 7.6). The CC cultivated on pH 6.2 (CC-6.2) soil contained significantly increased amounts (2-9 fold) of pectin, crude protein, vitamin C and vitamin E compared to the counterpart (CC-7.6). The contents of ash and the minerals (Ca, Fe, Na, and Mn) were also significantly increased in CC-6.2. However, CC-6.2 contained 40-50% lower contents of reducing sugars, cellulose and crude fat than CC-7.6. CC-7.6 contained more glucosinolates, gluconasturtiin (18.33 vs. 1.16 nmol · g?¹ wet weight) and gluconapin (145 vs. 2 nmol · g?¹ wet wt), than CC-6.2. In conclusion, CC-6.2 had an improved texture (high pectin and low cellulose) and nutritional value (high in protein, Ca, Fe, vitamin C, and E), whereas the CC-7.6 had better taste (high in reducing sugars) and anticancer functionality (high in glucosinolates).

Therapy of heavy menstrual bleeding in Korea: Subanalysis and results from a multinational clinical trial in the Asian region investigating the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system versus conventional therapy

( Byung Seok Lee ),( Xu Ling ),( Shaheena Asif ),( Peter Kraemer ),( Jens Ulrich Hanisch ),( Pirjo Inki ),( Jung Eun Lee ) 대한산부인과학회 2015 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.58 No.2

Objective To compare real-life clinical outcomes with the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) and conventional medical therapies (CMTs), including combined oral contraceptives and oral progestins in the treatment of idiopathic heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) in South Korea. Methods This prospective, observational cohort study recruited a total of 647 women aged 18 to 45 years, diagnosed with HMB from 8 countries in Asia, including 209 women from South Korea (LNG-IUS, 169; CMTs, 40), who were followed up to one year. The primary outcome was cumulative continuation rate (still treated with LNG-IUS and CMTs) at 12 months. Secondary outcomes included bleeding pattern, assessment of the treatment efficacy by treating physician and safety profile. Results The continuation rate at 12 months was significantly higher with the LNG-IUS than CMTs (85.1% vs. 48.5%, respectively; P<0.0001). The 51.5% of CMTs patients discontinued treatment and 18.8% of LNG-IUS patients discontinued treatment. The most common reasons for discontinuation for CMTs were switching to another treatment and personal reasons. When compared to CMTs, the LNG-IUS offered better reduction in subjectively assessed menstrual blood loss and the number of bleeding days, tolerability and with better efficacy in HMB, as assessed by physician’s final evaluation. Conclusion This study provides novel information on the real-life treatment patterns of HMB in South Korea. The efficacy of CMTs was inferior compared to the LNG-IUS in the clinical outcomes measured in this study. Due to the better compliance with LNG-IUS, the cumulative continuation rate is higher than CMTs. We conclude that the LNG-IUS should be used as the first-line treatment for HMB in Korean women, in line with international guidelines.

      • <i>Angelica gigas</i> Nakai Has Synergetic Effects on Doxorubicin-Induced Apoptosis

        Jeon, Yong-Joon,Shin, Jong-Il,Lee, Sol,Lee, Yoon Gyeong,Kim, Ji Beom,Kwon, Hak Cheol,Kim, Sung Hun,Kim, Inki,Lee, Kyungho,Han, Ye Sun Hindawi 2018 BioMed research international Vol.2018 No.-

<P>Natural products are valuable sources for drug discovery because they have a wide variety of useful chemical components and biological properties. A quick reevaluation of the potential therapeutic properties of established natural products was made possible by the recent development of the methodology and improvement in the accuracy of an automated high-throughput screening system. In this study, we screened natural product libraries to detect compounds with anticancer effects using HeLa cells. Of the 420 plant extracts screened, the extract of<I> Angelica gigas</I> Nakai (AGN) was the most effective in reducing cell viability of HeLa cells. Markers of apoptosis, such as exposure of phosphatidylserine and cleavage of caspase-7 and PARP, were increased by treatment with the AGN extract. Treatment of the AGN extract increased expression of PKR as well as ATF4 and CHOP, the unfolded protein response genes. In addition, cotreatment of doxorubicin and the AGN extract significantly increased doxorubicin-induced apoptosis in HeLa cells. Decursin and decursinol angelate, which were known to have anticancer effects, were the main components of the AGN extract. These results suggest that the extract of AGN containing, decursin and decursinol angelate, increases doxorubicin susceptibility.</P>

Patient’s Perspective on Psychiatric Drugs: A Multicenter Survey-Based Study

        Seoyun Han,Sun-Young Kim,Young-Eun Jung,Won Kim,Jeong Seok Seo,Inki Sohn,Kwanghun Lee,Jong Hun Lee,Sang-Keun Chung,Sang-Yeol Lee,Jung Wan Hong,Bo-Hyun Yoon,Young Sup Woo,Changwoo Han,Jhin Goo Chang,Wo 대한신경정신의학회 2024 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.21 No.1

Objective We aimed to identify the expectations and preferences for medication and medical decision-making in patients with major psychiatric disorders. Methods A survey was conducted among patients with major psychiatric disorders who visited psychiatric outpatient clinics at 15 hospitals between 2016 and 2018 in Korea. The survey consisted of 12 questions about demographic variables and opinions on their expectations for medication, important medical decision-makers, and preferred drug type. The most preferred value in each category in the total population was identified, and differences in the preference ratio of each item among the disease groups were compared. Results A total of 707 participants were surveyed. In the total population, patients reported high efficacy (44.01%±21.44%) as the main wish for medication, themselves (37.39%±22.57%) and a doctor (35.27%±22.88%) as the main decision makers, and tablet/capsule (36.16%±30.69%) as the preferred type of drug. In the depressive disorders group, the preference ratio of high efficacy was significantly lower, and the preference ratio of a small amount was significantly higher than that of the psychotic disorder and bipolar disorder groups. The preference ratio of a doctor as an important decision maker in the bipolar disorder group was higher compared to the other groups. Conclusion This study revealed the preference for medications and showed differences among patients with psychiatric disorders. Providing personalized medicine that considers a patient’s preference for the drug may contribute to the improvement of drug compliance and outcomes.
