Backgrounds/Aims: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy (Ps–AH) based on portal ramification of the right anterior section (RAS) is a new technique to avoid unnecessarily transecting too much liver parenchyma, especially in cases of major anatomical hepatectomy. Methods: We prospectively assessed 26 patients with primary hepatic malignancies having undergone major Ps–AH based on portal ramification of the RAS from August 2018 to August 2022 (48 months). The perioperative indications, clinical data, intra-operative index, pathological postoperative specimens, postoperative complications, and follow-up results were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Among the 26 patients analyzed, there was just one case that had intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma The preoperative level of α– Fetoprotein was 25.2 ng/mL. All cases (100%) had Child–Pugh A liver function preoperatively. The ventral/dorsal RAS was preserved in 19 and 7 patients, respectively. The mean surgical margin was 6.2 mm. The mean surgical time was 228.5 minutes, while the mean blood loss was 255 mL. In pathology, 5 cases (19.2%) had microvascular invasion, and in the group of HCC patients, 92% of all cases had moderate or poor tumor differentiation. Six cases (23.1%) of postoperative complications were graded over III according to the Clavien–Dindo system, including in three patients resistant ascites or intra-abdominal abscess that required intervention. Conclusions: Parenchymal-sparing anatomical hepatectomy based on portal ramification of the RAS to achieve R0-resection was safe and effective, with favorable short-term outcomes. This technique can be used widely in clinical practice.
Correlations between abnormalities of morphological details and DNA fragmentation in human sperm

Objective: As the associations of sperm DNA fragmentation with morphology have not been examined in detail, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between abnormalities of morphological details and DNA integrity in human sperm. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, men from infertile couples were enrolled at Hue Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Vietnam. Conventional semen parameters, including morphological details, were analyzed following the World Health Organization 2010 criteria. Sperm DNA fragmentation was evaluated using a sperm chromatin dispersion assay. The relationships and correlations between semen parameters, sperm morphology, and the type of halosperm and the DNA fragmentation index (DFI) were analyzed. Results: Among 130 men in infertile couples, statistically significant differences were not found in the sperm halo type between the normal and abnormal sperm morphology groups. The percentage of round-head spermatozoa was higher in the DFI >15% group (16.98%±12.50%) than in the DFI ≤15% group (13.13% ±8.82%), higher values for amorphous heads were found in the DFI >15% group, and lower values for tapered heads were observed in the DFI ≤15% group; however, these differences were not statistically significant. Small-halo sperm and the DFI were positively correlated with round-head sperm (r=0.243, p=0.005 and r=0.197, p=0.025, respectively). Conclusion: The rate of general sperm morphological abnormalities in semen analysis was not related to sperm DNA integrity. However, round sperm heads were closely associated with sperm DNA fragmentation.

Pd-incorporated Zr-based metal–organic framework containing sulfone groups, named Pd(II)BUT-11, wassuccessfully prepared by dispersing the sulfone-functionalized MOF in Pd(OAc)2 solution. X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy, N2 isotherm sorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetricanalysis were applied to determine the features of the Pd-incorporated MOF. In the catalyticstudies, Pd(II)@BUT-11 was shown to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for synthesizing various stilbenederivatives via the cross-coupling Heck reaction with DABCO-derived deep eutectic solvent (DES) asa green solvent. Notably, the catalyst and the solvent could be recovered and reused, with their activityand structure remaining stable throughout several trials. The method provides an alternative solution tothe conventional catalysts and solvents, resulting in a green and efficient stilbene synthesis process. Furthermore, the stilbenes were separated by extraction with ethyl acetate due to the low solubility ofDES with this solvent.
Preparing cuprous oxide nanomaterials by electrochemical method for non-enzymatic glucose biosensor

<P>Cuprous oxide (Cu<SUB>2</SUB>O) nanostructure has been synthesized using an electrochemical method with a two-electrode system. Cu foils were used as electrodes and NH<SUB>2</SUB>(OH) was utilized as the reducing agent. The effects of pH and applied voltages on the morphology of the product were investigated. The morphology and optical properties of Cu<SUB>2</SUB>O particles were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and diffuse reflectance spectra. The synthesized Cu<SUB>2</SUB>O nanostructures that formed in the vicinity of the anode at 2 V and pH?=?11 showed high uniform distribution, small size, and good electrochemical sensing. These Cu<SUB>2</SUB>O nanoparticles were coated on an Indium tin oxide substrate and applied to detect non-enzyme glucose as excellent biosensors. The non-enzyme glucose biosensors exhibited good performance with high response, good selectivity, wide linear detection range, and a low detection limit at 0.4 <I>μ</I>M. Synthesized Cu<SUB>2</SUB>O nanostructures are potential materials for a non-enzyme glucose biosensor.</P>

Objective: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of physiological intracytoplasmic sperm injection (PICSI) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in terms of the fertilization rate and embryo quality using sibling oocyte cycles. Methods: This prospective, cross-sectional study collected data from 76 couples who underwent their first cycle at the Hue Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Vietnam, between May 2019 and November 2021. The inclusion criteria were cycles with at least eight oocytes and a sperm concentration of 5×10<sup>6</sup>/mL. Sperm parameters, sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF), fertilization, and the quality of cleavage-stage embryos on day 2 and blastocysts on day 5 were examined. Results: From 76 ICSI cycles, 1,196 metaphase II (MII) oocytes were retrieved, half of which were randomly allocated to either the PICSI (n=592) or ICSI (n=604) treatment group. The results showed no significant difference between the two groups in terms of fertilization (72.80% vs. 75.33%, p=0.32), day 2 cleavage rate (95.13% vs. 96.04%, p=0.51), blastulation rate (52.68% vs. 57.89%), and high-quality blastocyst rate (26.10% vs. 31.13%, p=0.13). However, in cases where SDF was low, 59 cycles consisting of 913 MII oocytes produced a considerably higher blastulation rate with PICSI than with ICSI (50.49% vs. 35.65%, p=0.00). There were no significant differences between the pregnancy outcomes of the PICSI and ICSI embryo groups following embryo transfer. Conclusion: Using variable sperm quality provided no benefit for PICSI versus ICSI in terms of embryo outcomes. When SDF is low, PICSI appears to be able to produce more blastocysts.

Functionalized metal–organic frameworks have recently received significant attention in heterogeneouscatalysis applications due to their high catalytic activity. In this work, a sulfate-functionalized Hf-clusterbasedmetal–organic framework was prepared via sulfation of a Hf-MOF, named Hf-BTC, constructed byHf6 clusters and 1,3,5-tricarboxylate linkers. The Hf-BTC-SO4 material was consequently demonstrated tobe an efficiently reusable superacid catalyst for a one-pot three-component reaction of pyrimido[1,2-a]benzimidazoles synthesis. The reaction catalyzed by the sulfated Hf-BTC could be carried out under mildand solvent-free conditions and give superior performance in a wide range of substrates. According todetailed investigation, the good catalytic performance of the sulfated-functionalized MOF likely originatesfrom the high-porosity framework and the high active sites of the functionalized clusters. Importantly, the catalyst could be easy to recover and reuse the functionalized framework several timeswith minor changes in catalytic efficiency.

In this work, we study the magnetic properties of a CoFe/NiFe/PZT heterostructured nanocompositethat is affected by the strain in the PZT substrate when a voltage in the range from –250to 250 V is applied. An interesting electric-voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy, with a relativeincrease in magnetization up to above 100%, is observed. This brings a new challenge to operate alow-power-consuming spin electronic device. We also utilize a theoretical model based on interfacecharge-mediated and strain-mediated magnetic-electric coupling to understand the change in themagnetic properties of the investigated material.

Objectives: Although the World Health Organization (WHO) initiative “My 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene” has been lauded as effective in preventing hospital-associated infections, little is known about healthcare workers (HCWs)’ hand hygiene behavior. In this study, we sought to assess knowledge and attitudes towards the concepts in this initiative, as well as associated factors, among Vietnamese HCWs at a general hospital. Methods: A structured questionnaire was administered to HCWs at a central Vietnamese general hospital in 2015. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with HCWs’ knowledge and attitudes towards hand hygiene. Results: Of 120 respondents, 65.8% and 67.5% demonstrated appropriate knowledge and a positive attitude, respectively, regarding all 5 hand hygiene moments. Logistic regression indicated better knowledge of hand hygiene in workers who were over 30 years old, who were direct HCWs (rather than managers), who had frequent access to clinical information, and who received their clinical information from training. Those who worked in infectious and tropical disease wards, who had frequent access to clinical information, and who received information from training were more likely to have a positive attitude towards hand hygiene than their counterparts. Conclusions: Although many Vietnamese HCWs displayed moderate knowledge and positive attitudes towards the WHO hand hygiene guidelines, a key gap remained. Aluminium (Al) is one of the major elements in rocks and its concentration can be varied, depending on different rock types as well as sources. The present study aimed to propose an analytical method based on the UV-Vis as a cheap, simple, and common instrument equipped in most laboratories for Al quantification in rocks after the microwave assisted acid digestion. The aluminone and 8-hydroxyquinoline were investigated for the colorimetric assay. The results show that the 8-hydroxyquinoline reagent was more favorable in terms of the minimized affects of the potential interferences present in the digested solutions, i.e., Fe3+, Si4+ and F–. The calibration curve was constructed from 0.10 mg/L to 3.00 mg/L with the goodness of linearity (R2 = 0.9996). The limits of detection and quantification (LOD and LOQ) were estimated, i.e., 0.029 mg/L and 0.087 mg/L, respectively. The 8-hydroxyquinoline was applied to real rock samples, demonstrating favorable precision (RSD = 0.34 %-1.8 %) and no remarkable differences were found compared to the inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) as a reference measurement approach.
