The intra-articular use of hyaluronic acid (HA) for the treatment of synovitis and osteoarthritis is still controversial. As a consequence, corticosteroids remain the most frequently employed therapeutic agents, despite their potential systemic and local deleterious effects. This study examined the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and chondroprotective activities of low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (LMW-HA and HMW-HA) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced synovitis in horses compared to triamcinolone acetonide (TA). LPS was injected in the metacarpophalangeal joints, which were treated intra-articularly with either TA (as control) or LMW-HA or HMW-HA. Joint clinical evaluation and synovial fluid (SF) analysis were performed at 0, 8, 24, and 48 h. The white blood cell counts (WBC), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor-α, chondroitin sulfate (CS) and HA concentrations, oxidative burst, and HA molecular weights were measured. TA reduced the lameness, swelling, and PGE2 release but increased the SF CS concentrations enormously at 24 h and 48 h. In contrast, TA decreased the SF HA modal molecular weight. These results indicate the breakdown of articular cartilage aggrecan and SF HA. In contrast, LMW-HA and HMW-HA were less effective in reducing the inflammation symptoms, but preserved the joints because only a modest increase in CS occurred at 24 h, decreasing at 48 h, and the SF HA was maintained. The HA-treatment also had anti-inflammatory actions, and LMW-HA was the most effective in reducing the release of cytokine. In summary, the HA treatment inhibited efficiently the digestion of cartilage proteoglycans and SF HA breakdown.

This paper examines the participation of Timorese women in the electoral process during the 2012 national elections, from the political, administrative and voters’ point of view. Existing literature on Timor-Leste has explored the issue of gender quotas at the local level, young women in civil society, and the role of aid donors at promoting gender equality in the country. However, the 2012 electoral process was a good opportunity to observe the gap between men and women in terms of electoral participation and consciousness in spite of the advances obtained through the gender quotas implemented in 2006. Findings confirm that Timorese men are still the sole conductors of the elections from most perspectives, and a new approach is necessary in order for the country to advance further in gender equality.
Prediction of Parental Combination for Introduction of Stay-Green Associated Loci in Wheat
Henrique de Souza Luche, Jose Antonio Gonzalez da Silva, Rafael Nornbe 한국작물학회 2017 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.20 No.2
In wheat, the increase of yield and stability associated traits can be achieved by combining parents containing the stay-green trait and favorable alleles for grain yield. The aim of this work was to analyze the genetic dissimilarity between wheat lines from stay-green and synchronized maturation groups and elite cultivars. Moreover, to propose promising combinations seeking the selection of high-grain yield and high bread-making quality genotypes containing stay-green trait. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with three replications in 2003, 2004, and 2005, using sister-lines with the presence and absence of stay-green trait and elite cultivars. Genetic variability exists among wheat strains from the synchronized stay-green maturation group and elite cultivars. Genotypes of maturation group stay-green obtained an average performance superior to the synchronized group. Crosses between stay-green lines and the CEP 29 and BRS 177 cultivars are promising in the selection of genotypes carrying the stay-green trait with high yield and bread-making quality
Rigidity theorems in the hyperbolic space
Henrique Fernandes de Lima 대한수학회 2013 대한수학회보 Vol.50 No.1
As a suitable application of the well known generalized max- imum principle of Omori-Yau, we obtain rigidity results concerning to a complete hypersurface immersed with bounded mean curvature in the (n+ 1)-dimensional hyperbolic space Hn+1. In our approach, we explore the existence of a natural duality between Hn+1 and the half Hn+1 of the de Sitter space Sn+1 1 , which models the so-called steady state space.
Brasil–Coréia: Uma Parceria Significativa?

Though Brazil established political-diplomatic relations with South Korea already in 1959, relations did not develop dynamically until the end of the 1980s. Then, first, in 1989 a bilateral memorandum signed in Brasilia, aiming to conceptualize an agenda to foment future relations. The growing Korean participation in Brazilian trade has been reinforced by the fact that the Korean conglomerates, at least until the Asian Crisis, aimed at aggressively augmenting their presence in Latin America, trying to overcome the traditional role performed by Japan. As such, Korean firms have aimed at constituting distribution and commercialization networks in the Brazilian manufacturing sectors. Second, these plans for stronger relations have been disabled by the emergence of Asian Crisis. Third, currently, there is a joint effort to expand the Korean‐Brazilian relationship due to their strategies for international insertion, with greater significance for their respective foreign policies.
Potentiation of Antibiotic Activity by Eugenia uniflora and Eugenia jambolanum

This is the first report about the modifying antibiotic activity of Eugenia uniflora L. and Eugenia jambolanum L. In this study the ethanol extract of E. uniflora and E. jambolanum was tested for their antimicrobial activity against strains of Escherichia coli. The growth of the two strains of E. coli bacteria tested was not inhibited in a clinically relevant form by the extract. The minimal inhibitory concentration was ≥1,024μg/mL for both strains of E. coli assayed. Synergism between this extract and gentamicin was demonstrated. In the same extract synergism was observed between chlorpromazine and kanamycin and between amikacin and tobramycin, indicating the involvement of an efflux system in the resistance to these aminoglycosides. It is therefore suggested that extracts from E. uniflora L. and E. jambolanum L. could be used as a source of plant-derived natural products with modifying antibiotic activity to gentamicin.
A note on maximal hypersurfaces in a generalized Robertson-Walker spacetime
Henrique Fernandes de Lima 대한수학회 2022 대한수학회논문집 Vol.37 No.3
In this note, we apply a maximum principle related to vo\-lu\-me growth of a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold, which was recently obtained by Al\'{\i}as, Caminha and do Nascimento in~\cite{Alias-Caminha-Nascimento}, to es\-ta\-blish new uniqueness and nonexistence results concerning maximal spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in a generalized Robertson-Walker (GRW) spacetime obeying the timelike convergence condition. A study of entire solutions for the maximal hypersurface equation in GRW spacetimes is also made and, in particular, a new Calabi-Bernstein type result is presented.

Soybean oil extraction using two green solvents was investigated from solvent selection to thermodynamics:ethyl acetate and 1-butanol. The screening of the solvents was performed using the Hansenparameters and Infinite Dilution Activity Coefficient (IDAC) obtained through the COnductor-likeScreening MOdels – Segment Activity Coefficient (COSMO-SAC) theory. The solvent selection was performedon ethyl acetate and 1-butanol in comparison with ethanol, a well-studied green solvent, andhexane, a non-renewable and industrially used solvent. The effects of temperature and solvent/solid ratioon the yield of soybean oil extraction were investigated through response surface methodology (RSM). The RSM obtained satisfactory statistical results, with R2adj of 0.9958 for ethyl acetate and 0.9729 for 1-butanol. The kinetic of the extractions were evaluated using two different models: mass transfer kineticand So and Macdonald. The last one obtained the best correlation to the data (R2 > 0.9964). The thermodynamicassessment showed endothermic, and spontaneous processes for both solvents. 1-Butanol, ethylacetate, and hexane have a better performance on the yield of soybean oil extraction than using ethanol;however, ethyl acetate is the best candidate to replace the industrial use of hexane due to its highest rateof soybean oil extraction at the process beginning.
An Analytic Approach to Contemporary Confucian Revivalism(s)
( Henrique Schneider ) 성균관대학교 유교문화연구소 2020 儒敎文化硏究(中文版) Vol.0 No.33
There are different variants of contemporary Confucianism. This paper offers an analytical tool that allows their comparison as well as differentiation while respecting each’s philosophical tenets: a 2×2 matrix. This matrix-a technique usually applied in social sciences-is constructed here from a philosophical perspective. It focuses on two axes of differentiation, each representing a spectrum: The first locates a particular set of ideas and its relationship to Confucianism. This is the axis of inclusion. This axis of the matrix is about the philosophical argument on how a variant counts itself as Confucian. The second axis relates to the role of Confucianism in the public sphere, as advocated by a specific variant. This second axis of the matrix is the axis of intention. This paper applies the matrix on two variants of contemporary Confucianism revivalism, namely those proposed by Fang Keli and Fan Ruiping.
