        The effects of estradiol-17β or progesterone on the contractility of neurotransmitters on pig oviductal isthmic smooth muscle were investigated. The motility of the isolated smooth muscle was recorded by using physiological recording system. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The contractility induced by histamine or prostaglandin F2α was depressed by the pretreatment of estradiol-17β but was not by the preteatment of progesterone in follicular or luteal stage. 2. The contractility induced by acetylcholine was depressed un follicular stage but excited in luteal stage by the pretreatment of estradiol-17β or progesterone. 3. The contractility induced by norepinephrine was depressed by the pretreatment of progesterone in follicular stage but was excited by the pretreatment estradiol-17β in luteal stage.

        Nowadays, not in an enforced way as in the past but in an autonomus way, we must learn and investigate as a foreign language like Chinese or English, Japanese which is in an intimate relation with us from the viewpoint of geography history, culture, politics and economics, so that our knowledge about Japan will widen to cover the rapidly changing international society. Japanese is now officially recognized as one of the secondary foreign language which should be learned in the course of study in our highschool or college.Most of the men in the age of over 40s in our country can speak Japanese on account of the Japanese enforcement upon them to learn it during their colonial rule of imperialism, especially due to the Japanese policy of the obliteration of Korean during the later period of World War II. But in more than a quater of centry since the 1945 Liberation, the eschewal of using Japanese due to their mind of Anti-Japanese makes them speak Japanese poorly or awkwadly, and moreover influnced by their Anti-Japanese.young generation in these days is liable to ignore the role of Japanese in the changed international situation. But this tendency is equal to living at ease and in idleness whether it is against Japan or not.Living at ease is the attitude of a man of narrow views who want to live by oneself disregarding others, and living in idleness means the way of life just scratching the surface of a situation which asks for long observation with an eye not seeking for immediate gain. These ways of life ore not following the first principle of strategist "Sun-Tz(孫子)" "One who knows not only the enemy but also himself wins all the war." Briefly, ill order to know about Korea and Japan, to get rid of language wall between them is the first thing to do.

      • 다발성 골수종에서 저용량 thalidomide, cyclophosphamide, dexamethasone (TCD) 요법의 효과

        Background and Objectives : The immunomodulatory drug thalidomide can inhibit angiogenesis and induce apoptosis in experimental models. It can also induce marked and durable response in newly diagnosed myeloma patients. Thalidomide has been used at doses ranging from 200 to 800 mg with significant toxicity. No data are available on the impact of low-dose thalidomide, cyclophosphamide and dexamethasone as initial therapy for myeloma patients. Design and Methods : To address this issue, newly diagnosed myeloma patients were treated with 50 mg/day thalidomide continuously and cyclophosphamide 150 mg/m², days 1-4 and dexamethasone 20 mg/m², days 1-5 and day 15-19, every month. Between October 2005 and October 2006, 14 patients (median age 54.5 years) were treated with low-dose thalidomide, cyclophosphamide and dexamethasone. Results : After a minimum of two cycles of treatment, 5 patients (55.5%) showed a partial remission. After four cycles of treatment, 10 patients (83.3%) showed a partial remission (n=6) and complete remission (n=4). After a median follow-up of 15.4 months, 1 year overall survival rate was 82.0%. Thalidomide was well tolerated without serious toxic effects. Conclusions : The combination of low-dose thalidomide, cyclophosphamide and dexamethasone demonstrates favorable response rate and 1 year overall survival rate in newly diagnosed myeloma. Severe toxicities were not seen with this combination.

        알코올 의존과 후보 유전자들간의 연관성 연구

        연구목적 : 알코올 대사와 중추신경계내의 알코올 작용부위와 관련한 일부 후보유전자들이 알코올 의존과 관련이 있는지를 확인하고자 하였다. 방 법 : DSM-IV로 진단된 알코올 의존 환자 128명과 정상 대조군 128명을 대상으로 후보 유전자들의 다형성을 중합효소 연쇄반응과 제한효소처리법을 이용하여 동정하였다. 여기서 분리된 대립유전자와 유전자형에 따른 빈도의 차이를 유전자별로 각각 비교하였으며, 알코올 의존에 작용하는 서로 다른 유전자들에 의한 영향력을 배제하기 위하여 logistic regression 분석을 적용하였다. 결 과 : 알코올 의존군에서는 ALDH_2 유전자의 NN(wild type)형이 정상대조군에 비하여 유의하게 많았다(chi-square test, p<0.001). logistic regression analysis를 통하여 다른 유전자들에 의한 영향을 보정한 상태에서 ALDH_2가 NN(wild type)인 경우 다른 아형에 비하여 알코올 의존에 대한 odds ratio는 130.312이며 그 신뢰구간은 (17.22, 986.43)이었다. 한편, ASA는 N-glycosylation 부위에 변이형 대립유전자를 갖고 있는 경우(AG or GG)는 wild type에 비하여 알코올 의존에 대한 위험도는 2.344배이며 그 95% 신뢰구간은 (1.128, 4.871)이었다. 결 론 : 알코올 의존과 ALDH_2 유전자간에는 밀접한 연관성이 확인되었다. 또한 다른 유전자들은 개별 연관분석에서 의미있는 연관성이 관찰되지는 않았지만 logistic regression analysis를 통하여 N-glycosylation 부위에 다형성이 있는 ASA 유전자가 알코올 의존과 관련이 있음을 시사하였다. Objectives : This study was to explore the association between alcohol dependence and five candidate genes related to the metabolism of alcohol and the enzymes of the suspected sites in CNS. Methods : The genotype and allele frequencies of five candidate genes in 128 male hospitalized patients who met DSM-IV criteria for alcohol dependence were compared with 128 age-matched healthy male control subjects using polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism. A logistic regression analysis was applied in order to exclude the reciprocal interactions among five candidate genes. Results : The NN genotype frequency of the ALDH_2 gene was significantly higher in alcoholic patients than in control subjects(chi-square test, p<0.001). No difference in frequency was found in the other four genes. In a logistic regression analysis, the odds ratio for alcohol dependence in the NN genotype of the ALDH_2 gene and AG or GG genotypes of the N glycosylation site on the ASA gene were 130.312(95% confidence interval, 17.22-986.43) and 2.344(95% confidence interval. 1.128-4.871), respectively. Conclusion : The result reiterates the association of the ALDH_2 gene polyporphism and the alcohol dependence. Logistic regression analysis additionally suggested that the N-glycosylation site on the ASA gene was associated with alcohol dependence.

        In this study, Mechanical property, thermal property, watervapor, and oxygen permeability of biodegradable Soy protein/Pectin-montmorillonite nanocomposite, prepared with Na^(+)-MMT, have been studied. X-ray diffraction and TEM experiments an polymer/silicate composite samples demonstrated that the intercalation of polymer chains leads to increase in the spacing between silicate layers. In addition, it were found that the intercalated Soy protein/Pectin/montmorillonite nanocomposite were prepared. It was found that the addition of only a small of clay was enough to improve the thermal stability and mechanical property of Soy protein/Pectin/montmorillonite nanocomposite. watervapor of Soy protein/Pectin/montmorillonite nanocomposite was generally lower than that of Soy protein/Pectin. oxygen permeability of Soy protein/Pectin/montmorillonite nanocomposite was generally lower than that of Soy protein/Pectin.

        Effects of PP-g-MAH on the Mechanical, Morphological and Rheological Properties of Polypropylene and Poly(Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) Blends

        The effects of maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) addition on polypropylene (PP) and poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) (ABS) blends were studied. Blends of PP/ABS (70/30, wt%) with PP-g-MAH were prepared by a twin-screw extruder. From the results of mechanical testing, the impact, tensile and flexural strengths of the blends were maximized at a PP-g-MAH content 3 phr. The increased mechanical strength of the blends with the PP-g-MAH addition was attributed to the compatibilizing effect of the PP and ABS blends. In the morphological studies, the droplet size of ABS was minimized (6.6 ${\mu}m$) at a PP-g-MAH content of 3 phr. From the rheological examination, the complex viscosity was maximized at a PP-g-MAH content of 3 phr. These mechanical, morphological and rheological results indicated that the compatibility of the PP/ABS (70/30) blends is increased with PP-g-MAH addition to an optimum blend at a PP-g-MAH content of 3 phr.

        Physicochemical characterization of porcine bone-derived grafting material and comparison with bovine xenografts for dental applications

        Purpose: The physicochemical properties of a xenograft are very important because they strongly influence the bone regeneration capabilities of the graft material. Even though porcine xenografts have many advantages, only a few porcine xenografts are commercially available, and most of their physicochemical characteristics have yet to be reported. Thus, in this work we aimed to investigate the physicochemical characteristics of a porcine bone grafting material and compare them with those of 2 commercially available bovine xenografts to assess the potential of xenogenic porcine bone graft materials for dental applications. Methods: We used various characterization techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy, the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller adsorption method, atomic force microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and others, to compare the physicochemical properties of xenografts of different origins. Results: The porcine bone grafting material had relatively high porosity (78.4%) and a large average specific surface area (SSA; $69.9m^2/g$), with high surface roughness (10-point average roughness, $4.47{\mu}m$) and sub-100-nm hydroxyapatite crystals on the surface. Moreover, this material presented a significant fraction of sub-100-nm pores, with negligible amounts of residual organic substances. Apart from some minor differences, the overall characteristics of the porcine bone grafting material were very similar to those of one of the bovine bone grafting material. However, many of these morphostructural properties were significantly different from the other bovine bone grafting material, which exhibited relatively smooth surface morphology with a porosity of 62.0% and an average SSA of $0.5m^2/g$. Conclusions: Considering that both bovine bone grafting materials have been successfully used in oral surgery applications in the last few decades, this work shows that the porcinederived grafting material possesses most of the key physiochemical characteristics required for its application as a highly efficient xenograft material for bone replacement.
