      • NAVIGATING THE TURBULENT WATERS OF TRANSITION: HOW HUNGARIAN FIRMS CO-EVOLVE WITH THEIR ENVIRONMENT IN THE LAST TWENTY YEARS OF ECONOMIC TRANSITION?

Gábor Nagy,József Berács 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2014 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2014 No.11

Research on strategic orientations has mainly focused on Western countries, leaving findings an open issue for other contexts, such as transitional economies. In these economies competition is likely to be fluid and new entrants are approaching the market which offers new perspectives on the strategic orientation-context link. However, extant literature on strategic management has mostly studied short term adaption events or single cases, and to more accurately account for the dynamic process of economic transition, strategic research has to focus on how firms co-evolve with the changing environment. Extending previous work, we investigate the process of firms’ co-evolution with their environment over the last two decades of economic transition in Hungary. Results show that there has been a significant increase in perceived market turbulence, technological turbulence and competitive intensity as the Hungarian economy enters the later phase of economic transition. However, firms do not perceive this change in the environment and do not respond to it by allocating more resources on customer and competitor orientation.

The Medium of Writing and Academic Texts: On Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht and Marshall McLuhan

Gábor MEZEI 이화여자대학교 이화인문과학원 2016 탈경계인문학 Vol.9 No.3

The article deals with the question: What role does the medium of writing play concerning academic texts? If we take into consideration that the medium does not simply carry or record “contents,” as can be characterized by a constitutive operation, the material presence of writing has to be handled as inevitable. When reading the texts of Marshall McLuhan and Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht, we have to face this question not only because in their books, the operations of writing are especially apparent, but also because the texts themselves reflect these aspects in many, though highly different, ways. Taking into account the works that are relevant from these perspectives may show that possible concepts of mediaanthropology can contribute to the understanding how the materiality of writing comes into focus as an active medium of academic — or any kind of — texts. Mediaanthropology, questioning the relation of the human and technology, provides a broader perspective here, as it may point at the medial precededness of the anthropos. The insight that technology has always already been there for human beings throws a different light upon the constitutive operations of writing.

Recent Advances in the Neoadjuvant Treatment of Breast Cancer

Gábor Rubovszky,Zsolt Horváth 한국유방암학회 2017 Journal of breast cancer Vol.20 No.2

In the last few decades, neoadjuvant therapy for breast cancer has gained considerable therapeutic importance. Despite extensive clinical investigations, it has not yet been clarified whether neoadjuvant therapy would result in improved survival in comparison with the standard adjuvant setting in any subgroups of patients with breast cancer. Chemotherapy is especially effective in the treatment of endocrine insensitive tumors, and such therapeutic benefit can be assumed for patients with triple-negative, or hormone receptor-negative and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer. However, dose escalation, modification of the therapeutic regimens according to early tumor response, as well as the optimal sequence of administration are still matters of debate. There is a current debate between clinical experts regarding the concomitant and sequential administration of carboplatin and capecitabine, respectively, as part of the standard neoadjuvant treatment, as well as the use of bevacizumab, as part of the preoperative treatment. In case of HER2 positive tumors, an anti-HER2 agent can be administered as part of the preoperative treatment, and according to preliminary clinical data, dual HER2 blockade can also be reasonable. Further, chemotherapy-free regimens can be justified in highly endocrine sensitive tumors, while immune modulating agents may also gain particular importance in the case of certain subtypes of breast cancer. Several small-molecule targeted therapies are under clinical investigation and are expected to provide new neoadjuvant treatment options. However, novel, more predictive biomarkers are required for further evaluation of the neoadjuvant therapies, as well as the effect of novel targeted agents intended to be incorporated into neoadjuvant therapy.

Vision and odometry based autonomous vehicle lane changing

        Gábor Péter,Bálint Kiss,Viktor Tihanyi 한국통신학회 2019 ICT Express Vol.5 No.4

Autonomous driving is an old desire of mankind. The main purpose of this article is to present an autonomous lane changing method, that enables fully automated lane changing if given safety criteria are met. Environment detection is executed by multiple sensors such as radar, LIDAR and a smart-camera. Intrinsic sensors of the vehicle are utilized as well to ensure a smooth transition between lanes. The test results obtained on a closed test track prove the usefulness of the presented methodology. The resulting algorithm and experiences collected during implementation could be useful for integration into a larger system.

Molecular insight into drought tolerance of CR Dhan 40: an upland rice line from Eastern India

        Chatterjee Atreyee,Galiba Gábor,Kocsy Gábor,Kar Rup Kumar,Dey Narottam 한국작물학회 2024 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.27 No.2

To reveal the genetic potentiality of a rice line for stress tolerance, the conventional way is physiological and biochemical profiling under induced stress followed by validation through RT PCR based gene expression analysis. Though this technology is very useful and dependable, in the era of Plant Genomics and Post-Genomic bioinformatics, global transcriptome analysis is the current trend for identifying the potential genotype for their promising stress tolerance attributes. In the present study, RNA-seq analysis was performed on a potential upland-improved rice line (var. CR Dhan 40) to get a molecular insight into drought tolerance through a cataloguing of differentially expressed genes. Young seedlings (11 days old) of the selected line were exposed to water stress (12.5% relative to control) for 10 days and the leaves were subjected to transcriptome analysis. Total RNA extraction followed by preparation of cDNA libraries generated ~ 549 million high-quality reads which were mapped and aligned with the Oryza sativa indica reference rice genome. A total of 635 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were enumerated, of which 445 were upregulated and 190 were downregulated. GO enrichment analysis of the DEGs resulted in different functional categories of genes and pathways, of which six groups were highlighted that give us a clear idea about the water stress tolerance mechanism in rice. This work yielded genomic information that will enrich the available information on drought tolerance in rice, which is a typical quantitative trait regulated by a cluster of genetic elements across the whole rice genome

Novel genes in Human Asthma Based on a Mouse Model of Allergic Airway Inflammation and Human Investigations

        Gergely Temesi,Viktor Virág,Éva Hadadi,Ildikó Ungvári,Lili E Fodor,András Bikov,Adrienne Nagy,Gabriella Gálffy,Lilla Tamási,Ildikó Horváth,András Kiss,Gábor Hullám,András Gézsi,Péter Sárközy,Péter Ant 대한천식알레르기학회 2014 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.6 No.6

Purpose:Based on a previous gene expression study in a mouse model of asthma, we selected 60 candidate genes and investigated their possible roles in human asthma. Methods: In these candidate genes, 90 SNPs were genotyped using MassARRAY technology from 311 asthmatic children and 360 healthy controls of the Hungarian (Caucasian) population. Moreover, gene expression levels were measured by RT PCR in the induced sputum of 13 asthmatics and 10 control individuals. t-tests, chi-square tests, and logistic regression were carried out in order to assess associations of SNP frequency and expression level with asthma. Permutation tests were performed to account for multiple hypothesis testing. Results: The frequency of 4 SNPs in 2 genes differed significantly between asthmatic and control subjects: SNPs rs2240572, rs2240571, rs3735222 in gene SCIN, and rs32588 in gene PPARGC1B. Carriers of the minor alleles had reduced risk of asthma with an odds ratio of 0.64 (0.51-0.80; P=7×10-5) in SCIN and 0.56 (0.42-0.76; P=1.2×10-4) in PPARGC1B. The expression levels of SCIN, PPARGC1B and ITLN1 genes were significantly lower in the sputum of asthmatics. Conclusions: Three potentially novel asthma-associated genes were identified based on mouse experiments and human studies.

Voices of the fisher king: Narratives of older travellers’ religious journeys

        Anna Irimiás,Ariel Mitev,Gábor Michalkó 한국마케팅과학회 2018 마케팅과학연구 Vol.28 No.3

Older adults in countries with a relatively high standard of living are regarded as a highly influential consumer segment. However, the economically disadvantaged, invalids and lone travelers all face a variety of external and internal barriers to travel and social interaction. By contrast, “quest archetype” journeys, such as religious tourism and pilgrimages, provide opportunities for companionship, whilst also helping to alleviate an individual’s negative perceptions of ageing and later life. The main objectives of the research were to explore how older adults report their archetypal experiences and how they are perceived by the young. The generic purposive sampling comprised 345 Hungarian respondents. In the multi-generational sample, in-depth interviews were carried out with the youngest (23%) and the oldest (21%) age groups to explore the different perceptions of ageing. Narrative segments were analyzed within the framework of one particular archetypal quest, the legend of the Holy Grail. The study here attempts advances knowledge of the best approaches to assessing those travel narratives which employ archetypal legends. At the same time, service providers in the field of religious tourism can also benefit from the results in their management of holy sites with the needs and wishes of the older generation in mind.

The in vitro and in vivo efficacy of fluconazole in combination with farnesol against Candida albicans isolates using a murine vulvovaginitis model

        Aliz Bozó,Marianna Domán,László Majoros,Gábor Kardos,István Varga,Renátó Kovács 한국미생물학회 2016 The journal of microbiology Vol.54 No.11

Farnesol is a quorum-sensing molecule that inhibits biofilm formation in Candida albicans. Previous in vitro data suggest that, in combination with certain antifungals, farnesol may have an adjuvant anti-biofilm agent. However, the in vivo efficacy of farnesol is very questionable. Therefore, the in vitro and in vivo activity of fluconazole combined with farnesol was evaluated against C. albicans biofilms using fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) determination, time-kill experiments and a murine vulvovaginitis model. The median biofilm MICs of fluconazole-sensitive C. albicans isolates ranged between 4 -> 512 mg/L and 150–300 μM for fluconazole and farnesol, respectively. These values were 512 -> 512 mg/L and > 300 μM for fluconazole-resistant clinical isolates. Farnesol decreased the median MICs of fluconazole by 2-64-fold for biofilms. Based on FICI, synergistic interaction was observed only in the case of the sessile SC5314 reference strain (FICIs: 0.16–0.27). In time-kill studies, only the 512 mg/L fluconazole and 512 mg/L fluconazole + 75 μM farnesol reduced biofilm mass significantly at each time point in the case of all isolates. The combination reduced the metabolic activity of biofilms for all isolates in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Our findings revealed that farnesol alone was not protective in a murine vulvovaginitis model. Farnesol was not beneficial in combination with fluconazole for fluconazole-susceptible isolates, but partially increased fluconazole activity against one fluconazole- resistant isolate, but not the other one.

Study of Iran–Saudi Arabia Sports Relations

        Mohsenifar Ali,Dousti Morteza,Zare Fateme,Géczi Gábor 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2022 International Area Studies Review Vol.25 No.4

Political tensions and conflicts have been accompanying modern sports for a long time. The objective of this study was to determine the political reasons for not hosting football matches between Iranian and Saudi football teams. To address the research objective, a mixed-method approach was used. First, in the qualitative part, the political reasons for not hosting the matches identified through the content analysis and interviews were reviewed and evaluated by Delphi Group (25 people) in the second and third stages. Secondly, in the qualitative section of the study, the questionnaire was also used to rank the reasons. The research findings showed that tensions between Tehran and Riyadh increased after the Saudi Embassy attack in Tehran and Mashhad (January 2016) and the execution of Sheikh Nimr, a Shia sheikh opposed to the Saudi government. Saudi Arabia has requested that the Asian Champions League matches against Iranian opponents be held on neutral grounds in order to ensure the safety of its players. It is therefore recommended that sports managers and politicians in Iran reduce the political tensions between the two countries. In addition, they need to strive toward creating peace, friendship, and security between the two countries.
