Energy Efficient Hybrid Relay Transmission Scheme for Multiple Hop Mobile Networks
Daeyoung Lee,Jong-Moon Chung,Seungjun Choi 대한전자공학회 2010 ICEIC:International Conference on Electronics, Inf Vol.1 No.1
In this paper, we investigate the energy consumption of mobile multi-hop relaying systems in downlink transmission with and without relay station (RS) support. First we analyze the required transmission power of a base station (BS) in single-hop direct communication and then analyze the required power of a RS in a two-hop relaying topology, where for both cases, the constraint that the end-to-end data rate must be guaranteed has been applied in the derivations. Furthermore, an optimal hybrid RS selection scheme is proposed in this paper, which can determine if relying should be used or not, and if relaying is used then which RS will result in the best performance. The experimental results demonstrate that in terms of energy consumption performance (when applicable) the proposed hybrid mode, which uses both direct transmission and a two-hop relay transmission, out performs the one-hop direct transmission scheme.

<P>Hepatic lipid accumulation is a major risk factor for dyslipidemia, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and insulin resistance. The present study was conducted to evaluate hypolipidemic effects of <I>meso</I>-dihydroguaiaretic acid (MDA), anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory compound isolated from the <I>Myristica fragrans</I> H<SMALL>OUTT</SMALL>., by oil red O staining, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and Western blot. MDA significantly inhibited insulin-induced hepatic lipid accumulation in a dose-dependent manner. The lipid-lowering effect of MDA was accompanied by increased expression of proteins involved in fatty acid oxidation and decreased expression of lipid synthetic proteins. In addition, MDA activated AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) as determined by phosphorylation of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), a downstream target of AMPK. The effects of MDA on lipogenic protein expression were suppressed by pretreatment with compound C, an AMPK inhibitor. Taken together, these findings show that MDA inhibits insulin-induced lipid accumulation in human HepG2 cells by suppressing expression of lipogenic proteins through AMPK signaling, suggesting a potent lipid-lowering agent.</P>

<P>The applicability of gallium-based liquid metal alloy has been limited by the oxidation problem. In this paper, we report a simple method to remove the oxide layer on the surface of such alloy to recover its nonwetting characteristics, using hydrochloric acid (HCl) vapor. Through the HCl vapor treatment, we successfully restored the nonwetting characteristics of the alloy and suppressed its viscoelasticity. We analyzed the change of surface chemistry before and after the HCl vapor treatment using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and low-energy ion-scattering spectroscopy (LEIS). Results showed that the oxidized surface of the commercial gallium-based alloy Galinstan (Ga2O3 and Ga2O) was replaced with InCl3 and GaCl3 after the treatment. Surface tension and static contact angle on a Teflon-coated glass of the HCl-vapor-treated Galinstan were measured to be 523.8 mN/m and 152.5°. A droplet bouncing test was successfully carried out to demonstrate the nonwetting characteristics of the HCl-vapor-treated Galinstan. Finally, the stability of the transformed surface of the HCl-vapor-treated Galinstan was investigated by measuring the contact angle and LEIS spectra after reoxidation in an ambient environment.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2013/aamick.2013.5.issue-1/am302357t/production/images/medium/am-2012-02357t_0010.gif'></P>
