<P>We fabricated Bi-2212/SrSO4 composite superconductors by the melt casting process and evaluated the effects of the powder mixing method and melting temperature on their microstructure and superconducting properties. In the melt casting process, the Bi-2212 powders were mixed with SrSO4 by hand-mixing (HM) and planetary ball milling (PBM) and then the powder mixtures were melted at 1100°C~1200°C, solidified, and annealed. We found that the powder mixture prepared by PBM was finer and more homogeneously mixed than that prepared by HM, resulting in more homogeneous microstructure and smaller SrSO4 and second phases after annealing. The critical current (Ic) also varied significantly with the powder mixing method and the melting temperature. The Ic of the annealed rod prepared by PBM was 193 A at 77 K when melted at 1100°C, which is higher than that of the annealed rod prepared by HM (132 A). This enhancement in the Ic value for the former is considered to be due to its more uniform microstructure.</P>

<P>We aimed to identify prognostic factors associated with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) patients treated with sorafenib. We investigated 177 patients, including 116 who received sorafenib as first-line therapy, using the Cox regression model. During a median follow-up period of 19.2 months, the PFS and OS were 6.4 and 32.6 months among all patients and 7.4 months and undetermined for first-line sorafenib-treated patients, respectively. Clinical T3-4 stage (hazard ratio [HR] 2.56) and a primary tumor size >7 cm (HR 0.34) were significant prognostic factors for PFS among all patients, as were tumor size >7 cm (HR 0.12), collecting system invasion (HR 5.67), and tumor necrosis (HR 4.11) for OS (<I>p</I> < 0.05). In first-line sorafenib-treated patients, ≥4 metastatic lesions (HR 28.57), clinical T3-4 stage (HR 4.34), collecting system invasion (univariate analysis HR 2.11; multivariate analysis HR 0.07), lymphovascular invasion (HR 13.35), and tumor necrosis (HR 6.69) were significant prognosticators of PFS, as were bone metastasis (HR 5.49) and clinical T3-4 stages (HR 4.1) for OS (<I>p</I> < 0.05). Our study thus identified a number of primary tumor-related characteristics as important prognostic factors in sorafenib-treated mRCC patients.</P>

본 연구의 목적은 16주 근력 트레이닝을 동반한 TRX, 코어 훈련이 엘리트 역도 선수의 피로물질과 근 손상, 산화적 손상, myokine에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위함이다. 본 연구 대상자들은 총 10명(남 6명, 여 4명)으로 구성되어 있으며 16주 근력 운동과 더불어 코어 및 TRX 트레이닝을 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. Ammonia와 Pi는 트레이닝 전에 비해 점차적으로 증가함을 나타냈으나 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 근 손상 물질인 CK는 트레이닝 전에 비해 8주에 유의한(p<0.05) 증가를 나타냈으며, LDH는 트레이닝 전에 비해 8주에 유의한(p<0.05) 증가를 나타냈지만 16주에는 감소하는 경향을 나타냈다. 산화적 손상 지표인 MDA는 트레이닝전과 16주에 비해 트레이닝 8주에서 유의한(p<0.05) 증가를 나타냈으며, 항산화 지표인 TAS 또한 트레이닝 전에 비해 트레이닝 8주에서 통계적으로 유의한(p<0.05) 증가를 나타냈다. Myokine인 IL-15는 트레이닝 전에 비하여 트레이닝 8주와 16주에 통계적으로 유의한(p<0.05) 증가를 나타냈다. 결과적으로 16주 고강도 근력 트레이닝은 엘리트 중학교 역도선수의 피로물질과 근 손상, 산화적 손상, myokine에는 긍정적이 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of 16 weeks of resistance training on the fatigue factor, muscle soreness, oxidative stress, and myokine in elite weightlifters. A total of 10 subjects (six male, four female) participated in this study. The results were compared according to baseline, 8 weeks, and 16 weeks. Ammonia and Pi were increased through 16 weeks of resistance training, but this result was not significant. CK was significantly (p<0.05) increased at 8 weeks and 16 weeks compared to baseline, while LDH was significantly (p<0.05) increased at 8 weeks compared to baseline. The MDA of the oxidative stress factor was significantly (p<0.05) increased at 8 weeks compared to baseline and 16 weeks, and TAS of the antioxidant factor was significantly (p<0.05) increased at 8 weeks compared to baseline. The IL-15 of the myokine was significantly (p<0.05) increased at baseline compared to 8 weeks and 16 weeks. In conclusion, 16 weeks of high-intensity resistance training may have a positive effect on peripheral fatigue factors, muscle soreness, oxidative stress, and myokine in elite weightlifters.

Background/Aim - Hepatocarcinogenesis of microscopically altered foci could be shown to be progressed into a trabecular pattern of hepatocellular carcinoma. And it is reported that down-regulation of TGF beta II receptor and up-regulation of TGF alpha and c-myc reveal the progression of diethylnitrosamine-induced foci into liver cell cancer. Up-regulation of TGF beta II receptor, however, causes apoptosis of foci. To determine characteristic morphology and growth kinetics of putatively precancerous y glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) positive foci and hyperplastic nodules, a stereological quantification was attempted in the Peraino's neonatal rat model initiated by diethylnitrosamine and promoted by phenobarbital. Materials/Methods - Fifteen Sprague-Dawley rats were I.p. injected with 0.15 pmole/g of body weight of diethylnitrosamine mixed in corn oil at one day after birth. From weaning at 4 weeks of life, the rats were continuously fed 0.035% phenobarbital in drinking water and sacrified 5 rats at each time point of 8 weeks, 16 weeks, and 32 weeks. Teklad standard diet was fed after weaning. The livers obtained were fixed in freshly prepared, cold ethanol-acetic acid (99:1 vo1%). For the GGT histochemical staining, Rutenberg's method was modified, and counterstained with H & E or toluidine blue. For the stereological analysis GGT positive foci and nodules were traced in 200 consecutive tissue sections and quantified the 3 dimensional volumes by computer assisted planimetry. Either spheroidal or non-spheroidal morphology was determined by parabola 2nd degree equation ' y=ax+bx+c (sphere a=-P,). Results - Thirty nine (55.71%) out of 70 representative lesions were nonspheroidal. Especially at 8 weeks, the 28 out of 40 GGT positive foci were irregular, nonspheroidal shape. Later times, however, GGT positive foci and reprogrammed nodular lesions were become spheroidal. Lilliefors probabilities test for spheroidal frequency was statistically significant (p$lt;0.05). Conclusion ' Stereologically non-spheroidal characteristics of the early GGT positive foci limit growth kinetic estimation by 3 dimensional volume quantitation but permit in later times in spheroidal, GGT positive foci and reprogrammed nodules showing fade-out of GGT activity. In other words, GGT positive foci may be clonally selected for growing into hyperplastic nodules and hepatocellular carcinoma or regressed by apoptosis. Photon-Triggered Current Generation in Chemically-Synthesized Silicon Nanowires

<P>A porous Si segment in a Si nanowire (NW), when exposed to light, generates a current with a high on/off ratio. This unique feature has been recently used to demonstrate photon-triggered NW devices including transistors, logic gates, and photodetection systems. Here, we develop a reliable and simple procedure to fabricate porous Si segments in chemically synthesized Si NWs for photon-triggered current generation. To achieve this, we employ 100 nm-diameter chemical-vapor-deposition grown Si NWs that possess an n-type high doping level and extremely smooth surface. The NW regions uncovered by electron-beam resist become selectively porous through metal-assisted chemical etching, using Ag nanoparticles as a catalyst. The contact electrodes are then fabricated on both ends of such NWs, and the generated current is measured when the laser is focused on the porous Si segment. The current level is changed by controlling the power of the incident laser and bias voltage. The on/off ratio is measured up to 1.5 × 10<SUP>4</SUP> at a forward bias of 5 V. In addition, we investigate the porous-length-dependent responsivity of the NW device with the porous Si segment. The responsivity is observed to decrease for porous segment lengths beyond 360 nm. Furthermore, we fabricate nine porous Si segments in a single Si NW and measure the identical photon-triggered current from each porous segment; this single NW device can function as a high-resolution photodetection system. Therefore, our fabrication method to precisely control the position and length of the porous Si segments opens up new possibilities for the practical implementation of programmable logic gates and ultrasensitive photodetectors.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

In this study, Coal gasification slag(CGS) was replaced with fine aggregate to verify the physical properties of the concrete according to the change in cement types. As a result of the study, the use of CGS resulted in a decrease of superplasticizer and an decrease of AE agent. In addition, when 50% of mixed cement and CGS were replaced, the initial strength expression was delayed, and the strength enhancing effect was judged to be weak.
