        A large-area free-standing graphene oxide multilayer membrane with high stability for nanofiltration applications

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A flexible and free-standing graphene oxide and nylon 6 (GO@nylon 6) multilayer nanofiltration membrane was prepared by a layer-by-layer assembly process. The combination of electrospinning and electrospraying technique was employed, which can facilely prepare large-area membrane with size of 20 × 30 cm. The mechanical stability of multilayer membrane has enhanced significantly due to the tightly locked structure achieved by nylon 6 nanofibers network. The novel GO@nylon 6–13 multilayer nanofiltration membrane demonstrated a pure water flux up to 11.15 L m<SUP>−2</SUP> h<SUP>−1</SUP> bar<SUP>−1</SUP>, while keeping high organic dye rejection rate (>95% for methylene blue, and >99% for methyl orange). The rejections rate of the Na<SUB>2</SUB>SO<SUB>4</SUB>, NaCl, CuSO<SUB>4</SUB>, and Pb(NO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB> were 56.5%, 27.6%, 36.7%, and 18.9%, respectively. Furthermore, GO@nylon 6–13 multilayer nanofiltration membrane also demonstrated a high flux of some common organic solvents (8.4, 5.3, and 0.8 L m<SUP>−2</SUP> h<SUP>−1</SUP> bar<SUP>−1</SUP> for methanol, ethanol, and NMP, respectively), showing excellent chemical stability for separation process in those solvents.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Large-area GO@nylon 6 multilayer nanofiltration membrane was prepared. </LI> <LI> The multilayer structure enhances the mechanical stability. </LI> <LI> The multilayer membrane demonstrates a high water flux. </LI> <LI> The multilayer membrane shows high rejection rate for organic dyes. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Photograph and cross-section SEM image of GO@nylon 6 multilayer nanofiltration membrane, the inset shows the water contact angle.</P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        The Correlation between Thyrotropin and Dyslipidemia in a Population-based Study

        This study investigated the relationship between serum thyrotrophin levels and dyslipidemia in subclinical hypothyroid and euthyroid subjects. A total of 110 subjects with subclinical hypothyroidism and 1,240 euthyroid subjects enrolled in this study. Patients with subclinical hypothyroidism had significantly lower high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels than those who were euthyroid. The lipid profiles were each categorized and mean thyrotrophin levels were higher in subjects in the dyslipidemia subclasses than subjects in the normal subclasses. Thyrotrophin was positively associated with serum triglyceride and negatively associated with serum HDL-C in women. Thyrotrophin was also positively associated with total cholesterol (TC) in the overweight population along with TC and LDL-C in overweight women. In the euthyroid population, thyrotrophin was positively associated with TC in the overweight population. In conclusion, serum thyrotrophin was correlated with dyslipidemia in subclinical hypothyroid and euthyroid subjects; the correlation was independent of insulin sensitivity.

        Expression profiles of genes involved in fatty acid and lipid biosynthesis in developing seeds of Paeonia ostii

        Background Paeonia ostii seeds were identifed as novel sources of edible plant oil with a high proportion of α-linolenic acid, a type of n-3 fatty acid with many health benefts. Due to the unreliability of seed oil content and quality, it is necessary to discover the mechanism underlying lipid biosynthesis in Paeonia ostii seeds. Objectives This study aimed to identify the key genes involved in lipid biosynthesis in Paeonia ostii seeds by analyzing the relationship among the seed characteristics and the expression patterns of lipid genes in Paeonia ostii during seed development. Methods Preliminary research on Paeonia ostii seed development was carried out from 10 days after pollination until maturity, focusing on phenology, oil content and lipid profles. In addition, we investigated the spatiotemporal expression of 36 lipid biosynthetic genes in Paeonia ostii by using quantitative real-time PCR. Results The results suggested that the development of Paeonia ostii seeds from pollination to maturity could be divided into three periods. The 36 lipid genes showed various spatiotemporal expression patterns and fve gene groups with distinct temporal patterns during seed development were identifed by clustering analysis of expression data. Furthermore, the relationships between gene expression and lipid/fatty acid accumulation and some candidate key lipid genes were discussed. Conclusions This study provided the global patterns of fatty acid and lipid biosynthesis-related gene expression, which are critical to understanding the molecular basis of lipid biosynthesis and identifying the lipid accumulation rate-limiting genes during seed development.

        基于神话论的动画电影『哪吒之魔童降世』角色设计的符号学研究

        研究目的: 本文研究目的是为创作具有传播力和影响力的动画角色提供新的分析视角. 研究方法: 本文运用了罗兰・巴特的神话论符号学理论, 结合时代及社会背景, 对『哪吒之魔童降世』中的角色设计进行了外延意义, 内涵意义和神话意义分析. 研究内容: 研究了动画电影『哪吒之魔童降世』中的主人公角色背后蕴含的时代神话意义. 结论与建议: 『哪吒之魔童降世』通过角色设计创新, 暗含了对青年一代人意识形态的引导, 即对个人主义与集体主义的融合与提倡. 新时代中国动画产业想要在全球范围内实现可持续发展, 则建议从神话论角度思考, 理解并设计大众认同感和文化意识形态影响力兼具的动画角色. The purpose of this study is to provide a new analytical perspective for the creation of animated characters with communication and influence. This paper uses Roland Barthes' theory of mythological semiotics and analyze the denotative meaning, connotative meaning and mythological meaning of the character design in Ne Zha: I am the Destiny. The content of the research mainly analyzes the significance of the times behind the protagonists Nezha and Aobing. Finally, The analyze results show that Ne Zha: I am the Destiny implies the guidance of the ideology of the younger generation, which is the integration and advocacy of individualism and collectivism through the innovation of character design. In the new era, if the Chinese animation industry wants to achieve sustainable development on a global scale, it is recommended to think from the perspective of mythology, understand and design animation characters that have both public identity and cultural and ideological influence.

        The Fluorescence Behavior Studies and Applications of Two D-π-A Type Imidazolium Analogs

        The fluorescence behaviors and applications of two water-soluble imidazolium analogs TPI-1 and TPI-2 with D-π-A structures have been studied. Compound TPI-1 possessed the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect, but TPI-2 not. Moreover, compound TPI-1 could serve as a fluorescence turn-on probe for detecting uridine-5'-triphosphate (UTP) in living cells by AIE mechanism, while TPI-2 was able to penetrate into the cell membranes and light up the living cells.

        Ly-1 Antibody Reactive Clone Is an Important Nucleolar Protein for Control of Self-Renewal and Differentiation in Embryonic Stem Cells

        <P>Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) possess the capacity to self-renew and differentiate into all cell types of an organism. It is essential to understand how these properties are controlled for the potential usage of their derivatives in clinical settings and reprogramming of differentiated somatic cells. Although transcriptional factors, such as Oct4, Sox2, and Nanog, have been considered as a part of the core regulatory circuitry, a growing body of evidence suggests that additional factors exist and contribute to the control of ESC self-renewal and differentiation. Here, we report that Ly-1 antibody reactive clone (LYAR), a zinc finger nucleolar protein highly expressed in undifferentiated ESCs, plays a critical role in maintaining ESC identity. Its downregulation significantly reduces the rate of ESC growth and increases their apoptosis. Moreover, reduced expression of LYAR in ESCs impairs their differentiation capacity, failing to rapidly silence pluripotency markers and to activate differentiation genes upon differentiation. Mechanistically, LYAR forms a complex with another nucleolar protein, nucleolin, and prevents its self-cleavage, maintaining a normal steady-state level of nucleolin protein in undifferentiated ESCs. Interestingly, the downregulation of nucleolin is detrimental to the growth of ESCs and increases the rate of apoptosis, similarly to the knockdown of LYAR. Thus, our data emphasize the fact that other genes besides Oct4 and Nanog are uniquely required for ESC self-renewal and differentiation and demonstrate that LYAR functions to control the stability of nucleolin protein, which in turn is essential for maintaining the self-renewal of ESCs.</P>

        An in vitro Actinidia Bioassay to Evaluate the Resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae

        Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) is by far the most important pathogen of kiwifruit. Sustainable expansion of the kiwifruit industry requires the use of Psa-tolerant or resistant genotypes for the breeding of tolerant cultivars. However, the resistance of most existing kiwifruit cultivars and wild genotypes is poorly understood, and suitable evaluation methods of Psa resistance in Actinidia have not been established. A unique in vitro method to evaluate Psa resistance has been developed with 18 selected Actinidia genotypes. The assay involved debarking and measuring the lesions of cane pieces inoculated with the bacterium in combination with the observation of symptoms such as callus formation, sprouting of buds, and the extent to which Psa invaded xylem. Relative Psa resistance or tolerance was divided into four categories. The division results were consistent with field observations. This is the first report of an in vitro assay capable of large-scale screening of Psa-resistance in Actinidia germplasm with high accuracy and reproducibility. The assay would considerably facilitate the breeding of Psa-resistant cultivars and provide a valuable reference and inspiration for the resistance evaluation of other plants to different pathogens.

        Manhole Cover Detection from Natural Scene Based on Imaging Environment Perception

        A multi-rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system is developed to solve the manhole cover detection problem for the infrastructure maintenance in the suburbs of big city. The visible light sensor is employed to collect the ground image data and a series of image processing and machine learning methods are used to detect the manhole cover. First, the image enhancement technique is employed to improve the imaging effect of visible light camera. An imaging environment perception method is used to increase the computation robustness: the blind Image Quality Evaluation Metrics (IQEMs) are used to percept the imaging environment and select the images which have a high imaging definition for the following computation. Because of its excellent processing effect the adaptive Multiple Scale Retinex (MSR) is used to enhance the imaging quality. Second, the Single Shot multi-box Detector (SSD) method is utilized to identify the manhole cover for its stable processing effect. Third, the spatial coordinate of manhole cover is also estimated from the ground image. The practical applications have verified the outdoor environment adaptability of proposed algorithm and the target detection correctness of proposed system. The detection accuracy can reach 99% and the positioning accuracy is about 0.7 meters.

      • Design and Thermodynamic Research on Microfluidic-Atmospheric Water Generator

        A portable microfluidic device, composed by an absorbing and heating module, an energy module and a condensing module, was presented for generating fresh water from outdoor air. Based on the working principle of general atmospheric water generator, an attempt mathematic model was designed and established. The functional structure in the condensing module was microfluidic channel, which had compact size and good thermal conductivities. The dynamic characteristics of thermal-fluid coupled fields during phase changing processes (evaporation and condensation) were simulated respectively. COMSOL Multiphysics was used to study the heating-evaporation process and ANSYS ICEM CFD was used to simulate the condensation process. Vary characteristics of fluid field, temperature field and volume fraction distribution while water being generated were observed and then analyzed. Based on the findings of the analysis, a modified device was designed and fabricated. Simplified soft etching process was chosen to manufacture the micro channel in the condensing module. Several test experiments were recorded by thermal infrared imager to detect the temperature distribution during water generating process. The test results agreed well with the former simulation results, both of which would provide significant referential experience for commercial microfluidic-atmospheric water generator design in the future.
