Cartilage graft has been used for the aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of nose, ear, and reginoal contour. Usual donor sites are costal, septal, or ear cartilages. Although there are many studies about the cartilage growth and the perichondrial effect in cartilage graft,few studies of the cartilage regrowth of donor site have been reproted. This experimental study includes the role of the perichondrium and the age in cartilage regrowth of donor site. Rabbits were devided in two groups, 10 young ravvits(3-4weeks) and 10 adult rabbits (10months). From each rabbit, the cartilage with perichondrium was removed from one ear, and the denuded cartilage was removed from the opposite ear. The regrowth of cartilage tissue at each cartilage harvest site was examined after 2 months. The results are as follows: 1. In young rabbits, the cartilages grew an average of 1.84mm(23.1%). In the perichondrial-remanined donor sites, an average of 2.04mm(25.6%) and an average of 1.63mm(20.6%) in the perichondrial-stripped donor sites. 2. In adult rabbits, the cartilages grew an average of 0.29mm(3.7%). In the perichondrial-remained donor sites, average of 0.36mm(4.5%) and an average of 0.22mm(2.8%) in the perichondrial-stripped donor sites. 3. In histologic studies, the active proliferating cells increased more in young rabbits than in adult rabbits, and increased more in the perichondrial-remained donor sites than in the perichondrial-stripped ones. In young rabbits, the cartilages regrew more in the perichondrial-remained donor sites than perichondrial-stripped ones in young rabbits, but in adults, the cartilages grew little compared to young rabbits without the relation to presence of perichondrium. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that the age is more important factor on the cartilage regrowth of the donor sites and the perichondrium has effect on the cartilage regrowth of only young rabbits.
Reliability-based Evaluation of River-bridge Flood Resistance Ability Via a Visual Inspection Table

This research establishes a reliability-based preliminary evaluation table for assessing river-bridge flood resistance. Flood resistance for a river-bridge is affected by numerous factors, including bridge structure, river environment, hydrology, and riverbank protection infrastructure. Flood resistance assessment is a complex issue that involves multiple areas of expertise. A comprehensive assessment process is extremely time-consuming and difficult to implement in practice, especially given the limited time and resources. Many bridges require risk evaluations. A preliminary visual inspection is often conducted in response to these problems. The primary issue with visual inspection is the high subjectivity regarding the understanding and standards for the various indicators. To solve this issue, a Bayesian Network (BN) is proposed to combine the contributions from experts and reliability analyses. Eight bridges are selected for performing FOSM-based reliability calculations using a parameterized ABAQUS model. An ideal preliminary inspection table enables a close relationship with the failure probability that is calculated from an advance analysis. Thus, PSO is employed to maximize the correlation between the scores obtained from the visual inspection table and the failure probability calculated from the BN to establish a reliability-based visual inspection table that provides a strong foundation for a bridge risk analysis.

자세제어계 센서 보정알고리즘을 이용하여 자이로와 별 추적기의 보정 파라미터를 추정 하였다. 보정알고리즘은 칼만필터로 구현하였다. 자이로의 파라미터를 추정하기 위해서는 보정기동이 필요하며, 별 추적기의 요구조건 내에서 보정기동을 수행하였다. 보정기동 동안에 별 추적기가 태양, 지구, 달에 대해서 영향을 받는지를 분석을 하였다. 또한 별 추적기를 보정하기 위해서는 카메라 영상 정보를 이용하였다. 이러한 카메라 영상 정보는 지상 제어점과 인공위성의 궤도 정보를 이용하여 모사하였으며, 별 추적기 보정 파라미터 추정의 정밀도는 카메라 영상 정보의 정밀도에 따라 다르다. In this paper, the calibration parameters of the gyros and star trackers are estimated by using an on-orbit AOCS sensor calibration algorithm. The calibration algorithm was implemented by Kalman filter. In order to estimate gyro calibration parameters, the calibration algorithm requires calibration maneuver and it was analyzed whether the star trackers are protected by Sun, Moon and Earth or not. Also the star tracker calibration algorithm used the camera image information. This kinds of camera image information simulated ground control point and orbit information. The estimated accuracy of star tracker calibration parameters depends on camera image information.
이동 통신 채널에서 직교 주파수 분할 다중 시스템의 성능 연구

In this paper, we first analyze the influence of interference due to the time variation and delay spread of the mobile channel on an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. With the result, we obtain the bit error rate performance of the 16-QAM OFDM system. Second, we investigate the performance of the Reed-Solomon (RS) coded 16-GRAM OFDM system when the number of subcarriers varies. In the investigation, we assume that the information transmission rate and the total bandwidth expansion due to coding, guard interval, and the number of subcarriers are fixed. Under this condition, it is observed that there are optimum numbers of subcarriers that minimize the post decoding symbol error probability of RS code for various channel states.

Objective: The role of chemotherapy in locally advanced head and neck cancer has been established in nasopharynx and larynx as definitive therapy and organ preserving therapy, respectively. Oral cavity cancers are relatively uncommon and local recurrence is the main cause of treatment failure. We planned this retrospective study to evaluate the role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in locally advanced oral cavity cancer patients. Materials and Methods: From 1988 March to 2001 February, locally advanced, previously untreated oral cavity cancer patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy were examined. Chemotherapy had been done in the following patients: Histologically proven squamous cell or poorly differentiated carcinoma, stage 3 or 4, and performance state 0-2 patients. Chemotherapy regimen consisted of cisplatin and infusional 5-fluorouracil. Response was evaluated after 2 cycles and in case of no response, definitive local therapy was done; otherwise 3 cycles was done before local treatment. Results: 48 patients were treated and 47 patients were evaluable for responses. Complete response rate was 6.4%(3/47) and partial response 80.0%(38/47), scoring overall response rate of 87.2%. Median time to progression was 27.0 months (95% CI : 0-58months) and overall 5 year survival was 54.8%. 5-year disease-free survival in the patients in remission after local treatment was 51.9%. In multivariate analysis, contributing factor to the survival were response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and local treatment modalities. Extensive surgery was done in 10 patients and 25 patents (52.1%) was followed up with preserved function. With median follow-up of 57.0 months, 19 recurrences were detected, most of which were local or regional type. Conclusion: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by local treatment in oral cavity cancer showed high response rate and was thought to be effective therapeutic approach especially in view of organ preservation.
