The ROLE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES IN EFFECTIVE E-RECRUITMEN; A STUDY OF TELECOM SECTOR IN CONTEXT OF PAKISTAN

( Abdul Waheed ),( Miao Xiaoming ),( Salma Waheed ),( Naveed Ahmad ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.8

In cut throat competition, organizations all over the world try to utilize the immense opportunities the Internet has to offer in almost all of their operations. Today, Social networking sites (SNSs) provide utilities designed to help companies to recruit right personnel. Considering the implication of social media for recruitment at infancy stage in Pakistan and lack of studies related to it, this study aims to investigate the role of different SNSs qualities (Easily navigate, Secure process, Eminence Proficiency, Candidate’s Attraction and Network Expedition) in effective E-recruitment (EER). Data were collected through structured questionnaire from employees and managers of major telecom companies of Pakistan. Finally, the result of 355 returned and valid questionnaire with 55% response rate show that the relationship between SNSs qualities and EER is significant. Moreover, results also prove that EER is better than the tradition recruitment and a SNSs comparison show that Facebook is more effective than LinkedIn for EER. The results of this study will help Pakistani companies to develop a successful e-HRM and EER strategy in the current scenario.

Optimal Design of Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Based on Magnetic Equivalent Parameters

        Abdul Waheed,Byongkuk Kim,조윤현 대한전기학회 2020 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.15 No.5

This paper used a lumped magnetic parametric approach-based analytical technique to design the 7.5 kW, three-phase line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor. In order to enhance the effi ciency and power factor (PF) of the prototype LSPM machine, an optimized slot shape of rotor permanent magnet (PM) was selected. The lumped magnetic circuit model is developed to present the magnetic characteristics, and analytical expressions are derived under the open circuit condition. The impact of the design variables on the analytical model air gap fl ux density distribution and magnetic fl ux leakage is studied for the LSPM. The design variables have a signifi cant infl uence on the steady-state performance characteristics of the LSPM motor. Therefore, to verify the output results of the purposed model, the two-dimensional fi nite element analysis (FEA) was evaluated for the numerical solution of the analytical model.

Institutional Ownership Heterogeneity and Earnings Management Practices

        Muhammad Adnan PARWAR,Shahzad HUSSAIN,Abdul WAHEED,Qaisar Ali MALIK,Muddasir MEHBOOBMuhammad Adnan PARWAR,Shahzad HUSSAIN,Abdul WAHEED,Qaisar Ali MALIK,Muddasir MEHBOOB 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.6

The manipulation of the firms’ earnings reported in the financial statements, also known as earnings management, is common among companies. The current study examined the relationship of institutional ownership heterogeneity and earnings management practices through the Arellano-Bond Dynamic Data-Estimation regression approach. The study adopted the Kothari et al. (2005) model for the measurement of earnings management practices. The research classified the institutional investors into different categories such as mutual funds, pension funds, investment companies, foreign companies, and group ownership. The study analyzed the selected variables by tanking a sample of 206 listed companies on Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) for 2013 to 2018. Consistent with agency theory, the results reveal that mutual funds and financial firms’ ownership curtail earnings management practices. Our results reveal the negligible effect of group ownership, investment companies’ ownership, and pension funds ownership in curtailing the earnings management practices in Pakistan. As a result, the findings support monitoring the role of hedge funds and international ownership in earnings management, which restricts managers’ opportunistic behavior. Thus, the proclivity of earnings management practices by managers is mitigated by mutual funds and foreign ownership as compared to the other institutional ownership structure in Pakistani firms.

Effects of Vegetative and Flowering Stages on the Biosynthesis of Artemisinin in Artemisia Species

        Abdul Mannan,Ibrar Ahmed,Waheed Arshad,Izhar Hussain,Bushra Mirza 대한약학회 2011 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.34 No.10

Artemisinin is an endoperoxide sesquiterpene lactone, and has been proven to be very effective in treating drug resistant cases of malaria, cancer, etc. The compound is obtained from Artemisia species. In the current study, the effects of vegetative and flowering stages on artemisinin production were studied, to determine the proper harvesting time of naturally growing Artemisia species with the highest levels of artemisinin. Eight Artemisia species along with two varieties were selected for this analytical work. The results showed that artemisinin content was high in the leaves of Artemisia indica, A. sieversiana, A. roxburghiana var. roxburghiana, A. roxburghiana var. gratae, and A. parviflora at the flowering stage. The highest artemisinin content was measured in the leaves of A. dracunculus var. dracunculus. Upon comparisons of artemisinin content among the individual plant species, the highest amount of artemisinin was again in A. dracunculus var. dracunculus followed by A. sieversiana when harvested at the flowering stage. In overall comparisons, the plants at the flowering stage showed high levels of artemisinin, which is deemed the optimum harvesting time of Artemisia species in Pakistan for maximum artemisinin content.

Mobilizing Informal Economic Sector to Uphold Urban Institutional Resilience: A Case Study of Rawalpindi, Pakistan

Tayyaba RIAZ,Abdul WAHEED,Shahzad ALVI 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.5

The informal economy is a large part of the urban economy. The informal economy accounts for about half of Pakistan’s GDP. This research examined nine different areas of Rawalpindi’s Central Business District’s business sector (CBD). A survey of 404 respondents from 16 CBD marketplaces enables a comprehensive examination of who works in the informal and formal economic sectors, how much they earn, their goals, perception of their job, and their degree of similarity to the rest of the working population. Furthermore, the statistics illustrate the pro-cyclical connections between the informal economic sector and the formal economy. The Multinomial Logistic Regression (MLR) technique is used for the analysis. The MLR results indicated the informal economic sector holds positive relation with earning members in a family, business expertise, average business sale, and negative relation with education level, satisfaction with government tax policies, household expense, and average investment in the business. From a resilience standpoint, governance is considered an intentional collective action to preserve a stable system condition. Hence, the current study recommends tax reforms and government institution reorganization to mobilize the informal sector and make effective institutional governance.

The Nexus between Islamic Label and Firm Value: Evidence from Cross Country Panel Data

Naeem ULLAH,Abdul WAHEED,Nida AMAN 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.4

This research uses a panel data set of selected developed and emerging economies to investigate the relationship between firm value and the Islamic label. A low-debt company is a proxy for excellent governance, and good governance has a significant positive impact on a company’s valuation. We can claim that the Islamic label may also be a proxy for excellent governance and will significantly impact a company’s economic value because it reflects low debt Sharia-compliant companies. To explore this relationship, cross-country data from non-financial enterprises in Pakistan, the United States, Malaysia, and Indonesia was acquired from 2010 to 2015. The study’s findings indicate that the Islamic label has a positive significant impact on the firm’s worth in the whole sample, including all countries. With the exception of the United States, we have also collected the same information at the country level. We also discovered that the corporate governance index at the firm level has a positive significant impact on firm value. The findings show that the Islamic label reflects good governance and hence can be used as a proxy for good governance. The analysis differentiates between Islamic labeled and conventional enterprises in developed and emerging nations, adding to our understanding of who contributes to enhanced corporate financial performance.

      • Transmission/reflection phenomena of waves at the interface of two half-space mediums with nonlocal theory

Adnan Jahangir,Abdul Waheed,Ying Guo 국제구조공학회 2023 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.85 No.3

The article is about the theoretical analysis of the transmission and reflection of elastic waves through the interface of perfectly connected materials. The solid continuum mediums considered are piezoelectric semiconductors and transversely isotropic in nature. The connection among the mediums is considered in such a way that it holds the continuity property of field variables at the interface. The concept of strain and stress introduced by non-local theory is also being involved to make the study more applicable It is found that, the incident wave results in the generation of four reflected and three transmitted waves including the thermal and elastic waves. The thermal waves generated in the medium are encountered by using the concept of three phase lag heat model along with fractional ordered time thermoelasticity. The results obtained are calculated graphically for a ZnO material with piezoelectric semiconductor properties for medium M1 and CdSc material with transversely isotropic elastic properties for medium M2. The influence of fractional order parameter, non-local parameter, and steady carrier density parameter on the amplitude ratios of reflected and refraction waves are studied graphically by MATLAB.
