The purpose of this study is to understand spatial characteristics of the joint-use library based on the types of the joint facilities. Today, public libraries have been changed by social movement and needs of visitors. These changes show that library is not just a space to read and study. Diverse alternatives are introduced to promote the sense of community and accomodate the diverse needs of users especially in United Kingdom and United States. Increasing number of new libraries are the joint-use library as an alternative. The joint-use library has a different space organization and administration methode from the general public library. It is very important to study the existing joint-use libraries to understand the general feature of the joint-use library and find the different characteristics of the joint-use libraries due to its combined facility. The result of the study shows that the joint-use library has various spatial configurations according to the joint facilities. The significant difference in the spacial configurations is that the libraries jointed with commercial and residential have strong boundaries between facilities, while the library jointed with cultural facilities have the flexible boundary often sharing entrances.
A park is important in providing a place to take a rest for citizen and forming and reflecting a role of environment indicators in urban life and social value. The depressed children's park in Bukjeong-dong in Yangsan-si was remodelled. This study, which is being carried out in cooperation with students, teachers, a school committee, residents, the Korea Land & Housing Corporation, the Hope Institute, and the Urban Architecture Lab of Pusan National University, is for designing the playground with real users, local residents and children. The purpose is developing the playground which has the town's own characteristic through strengthening the local identity and the ability to live by oneself. The results of the study are followings; First, the efficiency of the children's participation way in the design program is regarded as skeptical in Korea. But the study shows a positive effect on high participation rate and values formation of residents' participation by participation program, such as children camps, children designers, and children's color experiences. Second, the playground got its name, the playground filled with joyful smile, through four-step program of children's participation. The study also shows the children's favorite places are water spaces, like sea, and swings and trampoline among new equipments. But the project was progressed in order of priority through consultation and discussion about the construction budget. Lastly, it is the performed case through continuous discussion with experts' advices on administrative supporting and the present enforcement law with appropriate harmony of children and residents. The meaning of the residents' participation planning is to deduct the design with which more residents are satisfied, to form community spirit and conversation between residents, and to make them get attachment and residents' consciousness.

Purpose: We aimed to compare the transport time, the proportion of direct hospital visit and the emergency procedures between the current mountain rescue helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) and physicianstaffed mountain-rescue HEMS. Methods: During weekends from October 2, to November 21, 2010, 9 emergency physicians participated as HEMS staff in the mountain-rescue HEMS program of the Seoul fire department. Patient demographic data, transport time, proportion of direct hospital visits, and emergency procedures were recorded. We also collected data on HEMS mountain-rescued patients from June 1, to September 1, 2010, and we compared them to those for the study patients. After an eight-week trial of the HEMS, we performed a delphi survey to determine the attitude of the physician staff, as well as the feasibility of using a physician staff. Results: Twenty-four(24) patients were rescued from mountains by physician-staffed HEMS during the study period, and 35 patients were rescued during the pre-study period. Patient demographic findings were not statistically different between the two groups, but the transport time and the emergency procedures were. During the study period, the time from call to take-off was 6.1±4.1min (vs. 12.1±8.9min during the pre-study period, pvalue=0.001), and the time from call to arrival at the scene was 15.0±4.8min (vs. 22. 3±8.1min during the pre-study period, p-value=0.0001). The proportions of direct hospital visit were not different between the two groups, but more aggressive emergency procedures were implemented in the study group. The delphi survey showed positive agreement on indications for HEMS, rapidity of transport and overall satisfaction. Conclusion: A pilot trial of physician-staffed HEMS for mountain rescue showed rapid response and more aggressive performance of emergency procedures with high satisfaction among the attending physicians. The visual sensory information in physical environments can induce or reduce occupants` stress. In healthcare settings, positive environmental stimulations can promote patient well-being by reducing their stress: poor health environments work against a patient`s health. Changing the color in a patient room is an inexpensive process and thus finding better colors for healthcare settings is a cost effective method of improving healing environments. Color may have important implications for pediatric patients, but the investigation of Korean populations has been non-existent. The purpose of this study was to investigate Korean pediatric patients` color preferences for patient room design. The color preferences from 50 Korean pediatric patients were recorded and investigated for gender effects. A simulation method was used because of its reliability and feasibility, allowing for investigating the value of color in real contexts and controlling confounding variables. The overall color preferences from Korean pediatric patients showed that they preferred blue the most and white the least. Gender differences were found in red and purple. Girls preferred red and purple more than boys. The results from this study can help healthcare providers and designers better understand appropriate colors for Korean pediatric patient populations.
