Purpose: To assess the changes in mean corneal refractive power (ΔK) following pterygium surgery and to predict ΔK in cases of combined cataract and pterygium surgery. Methods: Thirty-seven eyes of unilateral pterygium patients who underwent pterygium surgery were analyzed retrospectively with at least more than 1 month of follow-up. Preoperative and postoperative 1 month corneal refractive power was measured using auto-keratometer (RK-F1, Canon, Tokyo, Japan). Pterygium horizontal extension, width, and area were measured and correlation with ΔK before and after surgery analyzed. We also compared ΔK of the contralateral normal eye. Results: The mean corneal refractive (Km) power measured before and 1 month after surgery was 43.30 ± 1.66 D and 44.07 ± 1.42 D, respectively. The Km significantly increased at 4 weeks after surgery (<EM>p </EM>< 0.001). However, postoperative Km was not significantly different when compared with the contralateral normal eye (43.86 ± 1.34 D; p = 0.59). All parameters of pterygium size including horizontal extension, width, and area were positively correlated with the mean ΔK. Among parameters, horizontal extension was best correlated with mean ΔK (<EM>p</EM> < 0.001). The mean ΔK with horizontal extension was predicted using linear regression (2.5 mm to 1 D, 4.0 mm to 1.8 D). Conclusions: We recommend contralateral corneal refractive power or prediction of corneal refractive power using linear regression with pterygium horizontal extension for determining intraocular lens power in cases of combined cataract and pterygium surgery. The process of memory and learning in biological systems is multimodal, as several kinds of input signals cooperatively determine the weight of information transfer and storage. This study describes a peptide-based platform of materials and devices that can control the coupled conduction of protons and electrons and thus create distinct regions of synapse-like performance depending on the proton activity. We utilized tyrosine-rich peptide-based films and generalized our principles by demonstrating both memristor and synaptic devices. Interestingly, even memristive behavior can be controlled by both voltage and humidity inputs, learning and forgetting process in the device can be initiated and terminated by protons alone in peptide films. We believe that this work can help to understand the mechanism of biological memory and lay a foundation to realize a brain-like device based on ions and electrons.
교원 원격직무교육의 정보제공 인프라가 교수학습능력 향상의 효과에 미치는 영향 연구

본 연구는 최근에 정보통신기술의 발달과 평생교육의 제도적 지원이 확대된 시점 에 교원들을 대상으로 하는 원격직무교육의 정보제공 인프라가 교수학습 능력 향상 의 효과에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. 분석의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교 원원격직무교육의 정보제공 인프라의 세부요소 즉, 학습환경, 콘텐츠, 교육운영, 지 원 서비스 모두 통계적으로 유의미하게 교수학습능력 향상의 효과에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 교수학습능력 향상의 효과에 미치는 영향력의 상대적 크기 를 보여주는 표준회귀계수를 살펴보면 ‘지원서비스’, ‘콘텐츠’, ‘교육운영’, ‘학습환경’ 의 순으로 영향력이 큰 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 영향력의 순서는 교원들의 교수 학습능력 향상의 효과를 높이기 위한 전략적 접근이 요구됨을 시사한다. 둘째, 교원 원격직무교육에 참여하는 교원의 개인적 특성이 비록 회귀모형에 대한 설명력이 낮 지만 여전히 중요한 요소임을 보여준다. 이는 학습자 특성별 품질관리 및 만족도 관 리가 이루어질 필요성이 제기된다. The purpose of this study was focused for teachers in the time of expanding the technology in ICT and the support of system in lifelong education to analyze the influence for effectiveness of the infrastructure by sponsored information in distant training for teachers to Improve capability of teaching Skills. Results of the analysis are as follows. First, the sub elements of infrastructure by sponsored information in distant training for teachers such as learning environment, content, performing operation and support service showed statistically significant influence to teachers to Improve capability of teaching skills. And through standardized regression coefficient which can explain of relative influencing scale to effect in improving capability for teaching skills showed the power of influence in series support service, content, performing operation and learning environment. These series of the power of influence imply to request of the strategic approach to escalate the effectiveness for improving capability for teaching skills. Second, Even if the personal characteristics who participated in distant training is not major factors for regression model, it still shows important factor. This propose to be well prepared of quality control in the personality of trainee and the management of satisfaction.

In order to investigate the biological utilization of defatted rice bran and Comfrey (Symphytum Peregrinum) meal protein, single comb White Leghorn male chicks were fed for the first 10 days on a commercial chick mash, For the subsequent 6 days on protein-free diet and for the next 6 days on the protein-free diet and diets substituted 17.0% of defatted rice bran and Comfrey meal with cellulose of the protein-free diet, respectively. Daily weight gain of the chicks fed protein-free diet was -5.2 g and those of the birds fed defataed rice bran and Comfrey meal diets were -1.3 and -2.3 g, respectively. Birds fed defatted rice bran consumed 76.6 g of diet which is greater than 47.2 g consumed by those fed Comfrey meal diet. Defatted rice bran and Comfrey protein were evaluated to be -0.46 and -1.13 for protein efficiency ratio, 1.42 and 1.36 for net protein ratio and 87.3 and 89.2 % for biological value. Protein digestibility and net protein utilization of defatted rice bran was higher compared with those of Comfrey .meal. The results indicated that Comfrey meal may contain an unknown substance which might have influenced feed intake and protein digestibility.
외편위 환자에서 3D TV 시청이 사시각 및 굴절이상에 미치는 영향

Purpose: To investigate the effects of watching three-dimensional (3D) television (TV) on the angle of deviation and refractive error in children with exodeviation. Methods: Twenty-three volunteers with exodeviation, aged 6 to 12 years, without any ocular abnormalities other than refractive error and exodeviation were recruited for this study. The subjects watched 3D TV for 50 minutes at a viewing distance of 2.8 meters. The image disparity of 3D contents was -1 to 1 degree. Refractive errors were measured before and immediately after watching TV and after a 10-minute rest. The changes in angle of deviation were also obtained. Refractive errors and angle of deviation before and after watching 3D TV were compared. Results: The mean age of the subjects was 9.30 ± 1.58 years. The mean baseline angle of deviation was 13.04 ± 5.25 (6-30) prism diopters (PD), which did not change significantly immediately after watching 3D TV and after a 10-minute rest (<EM>p</EM> = 0.452). The mean refractive errors were -2.15 ± 1.55 D in the right eye and -2.06 ± 1.55 D in the left eye before and changed to -2.14 ± 1.57 D and -2.11 ± 1.45 D, respectively, immediately after watching 3D TV. After a 10 minute rest, the mean refractive errors were 2.14 ± 1.53 D in the right eye and -2.07 ± 1.53 D in the left eye. All changes in refractive errors were not statistically significant (<EM>p </EM>= 0.991 in right eye, 0.495 in left eye). The amount of myopic shift in both eyes immediately after watching 3D TV was correlated with the angle of exodeviation (r = 0.468, p = 0.024). However, the correlation disappeared after a 10-minute rest (r = 0.345, <EM>p </EM>= 0.107). Conclusions: Watching properly made 3D contents on 3D TV for 50 minutes at more than 2.8 meters of viewing distance did not affect the refractive error in children with exodeviation. Further studies on the relationship between the amount of myopic shift and the angle of exodeviation are necessary. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2014;55(10):1525-1529
