Objectives: In this study, the safety of alcohol-based hand sanitizers (ABHSs) for quasi-drugs and cosmetics was investigated by analyzing the ethanol content, which is an active ingredient with a sterilizing effect, and methanol, which is toxic. Methods: Forty-one ABHSs were purchased at large supermarkets and online stores. Ethanol quantification was performed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector, and methanol quantification was performed by headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results: The ethanol content of ABHS in quasi-drugs was 49.6-67.8%, which was suitable for standard manufacturing procedures for external disinfectants, and the ethanol content of ABHS in cosmetics was 9.1-61.3%. The methanol content of ABHS in quasi-drugs ranged from not detected(N.D.)-131.8 ppm, which was suitable for the methanol detection standard of ethanol raw materials in the Korean Pharmacopoeia. The methanol content of ABHS in cosmetics was 23.4-859.7 ppm, which was suitable for the detection limit of methanol in cosmetics. Conclusions: The ethanol and methanol content of ABHS was judged to be safe. When selecting an ABHS to be used for sterilization, it seems necessary to check the content of ethanol, an active ingredient, and use it according to its intended purpose.

이 연구는 해외 브랜드, 해외컬렉션에서 활동하는 국내 여성패션모델의 면면을 알아보고, 그 여성패션모델의 이 미지를 분석하여 국외 패션계 현장에서 요구하는 국내 여성패션모델의 이미지를 실증적으로 제시하는데 목적이 있 다. 자료는 2009년부터 2015년까지 해외컬렉션과 해외브랜드 광고, 국내 패션전문사이트를 대상으로 하였다. 자료 분석은 선행자료, 전문가회의, 연구자 참여로 이루어진 삼각검증법(triangulation)과 이후 동료 검증(peer debriefing), 재차 검증(test-retest)을 실시 하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우아하고 분위기가 있는 단아함 (elegance), 둘째, 서양인 눈에 신비한 이미지로 비춰지는 신비함(mystery), 셋째, gender의 모호함과 새로운 모 델상 발견으로 인한 희귀함(rarity), 넷째, 미래주의에 어울리는 사이버틱함(cybertic)이 있었다. 이러한 결과는 해 외에서 요구되는 동양 패션모델 이미지는 기존 서양 패션모델 이미지와는 다름을 알 수 있었고, 해외진출을 모색하 는 국내 여성패션모델 또는 기획사에 차별화된 이미지 마케팅을 위한 기초 자료로서 의미가 있다 This research identifies various aspects of Korean female fashion models involved in overseas brands and collections and then has an attempt to analyze and present their image empirically. Research materials include overseas collections, overseas brand advertisements, and Korean fashion websites from 2009 to 2015. For data analysis, triangulation consisting of previous research, expert meetings, and researchers' participation was conducted. After that, peer debriefing and test- retest were conducted. The results of this research are as follows. Korean female fashion models are characterized by First, the elegance with graceful atmosphere, the mystery of the image from the Westerner's views, third, the ambiguity of gender and the rarity for discovering a new model, and fourth, the cyber atmosphere that fits with futurism. These results show that the image of an Asian fashion model required overseas is different from the image of an existing Western fashion model. These results also meaningfully serve as basic marketing data for differentiated image marketing for Korean women's fashion models and agencies that seek to advance abroad.

In recent years, consumers have become more interested in convenient lifestyles, leading to increased use of salted cabbages for preparation of kimchi. This study aimed to investigate the safety of heavy metals, pesticide residues, and foodborne pathogens in commercial salted cabbages in Seoul from August to November, 2014. The survey, which was conducted to determine whether or not salted cabbages were prepared under the highest sanitary conditions, showed that Seoulites are interested in purchasing hygienic and safe salted cabbages. The average amounts (range) of Pb and Cd found in 30 salted cabbage samples were 0.007 (0.000~0.063) mg/kg and 0.004 (0.000~0.012) mg/kg, respectively. The cabbages were analyzed for residues from 285 types of pesticides using the multiresidue method. Residues for pesticides were not detected. Major foodborne pathogens, specifically Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Campylobacter jejuni, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, Clostridium perfringens and Norovirus, were also not detected.

An optical sensing approach based on diffuse reflectance has shown potential for rapid and reliable on-site estimation of soil properties. Important sensing ranges and the resulting regression models useful for soil property estimation have been reported. In this study, a similar approach was applied to investigate the potential of reflectance sensing in estimating soil properties for Korean paddy fields. Soil cores up to a 65-cm depth were collected from 42 paddy fields representing 14 distinct soil series that account for 74% of the total Korean paddy field area. These were analyzed in the laboratory for several important physical and chemical properties. Using air-dried, sieved soil samples, reflectance data were obtained from 350 to 2500 nm on a 3 nm sampling interval with a laboratory spectrometer. Calibrations were developed using partial least squares (PLS) regression, and wavelength bands important for estimating the measured soil properties were identified. PLS regression provided good estimations of Mg (R2=0.80), Ca (R2=0.77), and total C (R2=0.92); fair estimations of pH, EC, P2O5, K, Na, sand, silt, and clay (R2 = 0.59 to 0.72); and poor estimation of total N. Many wavelengths selected for estimation of the soil properties were identical or similar for multiple soil properties. More important wavelengths were selected in the visible-short NIR range (350-1000 nm) and the long NIR range (1800-2500 nm) than in the intermediate NIR range (1000-1800 nm). These results will be useful for design and application of in-situ close range sensors for paddy field soil properties.
Effect of light illumination and camera moving speed on soil image quality

Soil texture has an important influence on agriculture such as crop selection, movement of nutrient and water, soil electrical conductivity, and crop growth. Conventionally, soil texture has been determined in the laboratory using pipette and hydrometer methods requiring significant amount of time, labor, and cost. Recently, in-situ soil texture classification systems using optical diffuse reflectometry or mechanical resistance have been reported, especially for precision agriculture that needs more data than conventional agriculture. This paper is a part of overall research to develop an in-situ soil texture classification system using image processing. Issues investigated in this study were effects of sensor travel speed and light source and intensity on image quality. When travel speed of image sensor increased from 0 to 10 mm/s, travel distance and number of pixel were increased to 3.30 mm and 9.4, respectively. This travel distances were not negligible even at a speed of 2 mm/s (i.e., 0.66 mm and 1.4), and image degradation was significant. Tests for effects of illumination intensity showed that 7 to 11 Lux seemed a good condition minimizing shade and reflection. When soil water content increased, illumination intensity should be greater to compensate decrease in brightness. Results of the paper would be useful for construction, test, and application of the sensor.
