It has been said that Nathaniel Hawthorne's works are very ambiguous. His ambiguity plays twofold roles in his works: putting away false notions about the truth, and showing the limitation of the finite men. In this respect, his ambiguity is related with apocalyptic vision. The purpose of this thesis is to find the meaning of Mr. Hooper's veil showing Hawthorne's apocalyptic vision. Mr. Hooper and his veil have received various interpretations by critics. The veil itself, however, is the symbol of apocalypse in apocalyptic sense. Typologically, there are three veils in the Bible exemplifying Mr. Hooper's veil-the veil of Moses, the veil of the tabernacles, the metaphoric veil that hangs over the people's hearts-which mean separation between a holy one and ordinary things. Mr. Hooper's veil has the same role in this work. Once he dons the veil, the people are alienated, not only from him but also from God. Mr. Hooper's black veil has twofold meanings, that is, a symbol of his proud adherence to a destructive idea putting too much emphasis on the original sin, and a symbol of apocalypse in that the word $quot;apocalypse$quot; means, etymologically, $quot;unveiling.$quot; Hawthorne's apocalyptic vision is clearly shown in Hooper's firm belief that there will be an imminent revelation putting the veil away through Jesus' second coming.

최근 선박건조기술이 발전했음에도 불구하고 교통량의 증가와 해양레저의 활성화로 사고위험은 더욱 증가하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 그동안 발생했던 해양사고를 분석하여 사고발생을 최소화할 수 있는 여러 가지 방안과 사고발생시 신속하고 구조할 수 있는 체계적인 구조시스템에 대하여 논의한다. 선박이 해상에서 안전하게 항행하기 위해서는 선박기술, 항해관련 장비, 우수한 인적자원, 교통관제 등과 같은 구성요소들이 제도적으로는 구축되어야 하고, 각각의 항행요소들이 유기적으로 작동되어야 한다. 또한 사고발생시 사고수습이 신속하게 진행될 수 있도록 체계적으로 정부조직이 구성되어야 하고 그 조직들이 긴밀한 협력관계를 유지해야 한다. 민간부분에서의 협력지원도 현재보다 더욱 강화되어 국가의 관리영역에서 벗어난 해역에서는 민간부분에서 구조할 수 있도록 민간 구조대가 활성화되어야 한다. The 21st century is often referred to as maritime age. The sea is a rich repository of natural resources, comfort shelters and the hopes and dreams of human being. But there is always possibility of disaster as well as hopes and dreams. Although there have been many advances in the ship building technology, the risk of accidents is on the increase due to the increase of maritime traffic and the revitalization of marine leisure. I like to refer to the systematic search and rescue system for the rapid response by analyzing recent marine accidents. For the safe navigation, it is necessary to establish institutional systems such as ship technology, navigation equipments, excellent human resources, traffic control, etc. and navigation components also have to be well organized each other. It is also necessary to build a prompt accident management system. The search and rescue system for the rapid response and the way of reducing the incidence of marine accidents were reviewed through the analysis of recent marine accidents.

國會의 國政監査와 政府의 政策對應分析 : 제 15 대국회 농림해양수산위원회 국정감사사례 Case Study of Agriculture, Forestry, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Committee in the 15th National Assembly

국회의 국정감사 목적은 국정운영 전반을 감사대상으로 하여 그 실태를 정확히 파악하여 입 법활동과 예산심의를 위한 자료와 정보를 획득하고, 나아가 국정에 대한 감시·비판을 통해 국정의 잘못된 부분을 적발·시정함으로써 입법기능, 예산심의기능, 국제통제기능을 효율적 으로 수행하고 국민들의 알권리를 충족시키는데 있다. 그러나 매년 국정감사가 종료되면 감 사결과에 대해 주요언론을 중심으로 해서 평가가 이루어지는데 대부분 「부실감사」혹은 「형식감사」라는 평가가 주류를 이루어 왔다. 이러한 문제인식에서 본 논문은 제15대국회기간인 4년동안의 국정감사 실시결과 국회에서 최종 결과보고서로 채택하여 의결한 다음 정부에 이송한 「국정감사 결과 시정 및 처리요구 사항」의 내용과 정부(농림부)가 조치한 내용을 사례로 선정하여 비교·분석하였다. 국회의 지적사항 요구에 대해 유형별로 분류하여 정부가 어느정도 수용하고 있으며, 이행조 치는 어떠한지를 분석한 결과 위법·부당사항의 경우는 국회지적사항 자체가 미흡한 수준이 었으나, 주요정책에 대한 수정·보안·건의 등의 경우는 부분적인 수용을 포함하면 90%수 준 이상을 정부가 수용하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 국정감사의 영향력이 매우 유력 하게 정부에 작용하여 정부의 정책개선에 기여했다고 평가할 수 있는 것이다. 이러한 분석결과의 도출에 따라 본 논문의 결론은 첫째, 국감현장에 대한 언론보도가 당시 의 민감한 정치현안이나 일부 부정적인 사례위주로 불균형 보도되어 일반정책 사항인 민생 문제는 소홀히 취급됨으로써 국회국정감사의 역기능적인 측면만 강조되는 경향이 있었고, 국민의 알 권리도 침해당한 측면이 있으므로 감사장에서 이루어진 감사의 실상이 균형있게 일반국민들에게 가감 없이 알려질 필요가 있다는 점이다. 이에 따라 향후에는 국정감사 현장에 시민단체 등이 활발하게 참여할 수 있도록 시민참여의 폭을 확대하고 제도화시켜 감사의 공개성을 실질화시켜야 한다는 것이다. 둘째, 전문화·기 술화·다양화 등으로 확대·강화 추세에 있는 행정권력을 주권자인 국민의 대표성의 기준에 서 통제하여 민주행정의 책임성을 제고시켜 나가기 위해서는 현행 국정감사 실시과정에서 노출된 일부 문제점이 있다고 하더라도 정책개선을 위한 가장 유력한 공식적 외부 통제장치 의 하나인 국정감사권이므로 정책심의기능 보강 등 개선조치를 마련해 가면서 인내심을 갖 고 꾸준히 발전시켜 나가는 것이 매우 긴요하다는 것이다.

The Scarlet Letter 와 「에스더」 (The Book of Esther)

Nathaniel Hawthorne uses biblical myths as reliable means for his search to find the ultimate truth and interpret the reality. So naturally, many biblical images can be found in his works. There are broader analogies between The Scarlet Letter and The Book of Esther. But the most remarkable clue that he uses The Book of Esther as a frame of reference is the name of Hester, who is named for the biblical name of Queen Esther. In addition to that, these books have many common characteristics in major characters, theme, genre, and the structure. Esther and Hester are described as beautiful and the most attractive women in each work. Having secrets to keep, they both at first are in low social status, whose religious beliefs are different from those of their societies. To have their requests granted, the heroines are ready to defend their rights to the death. Arthur Dimmesdale finds a counterpart in Mordecai in the Bible, in that they are both religious leaders of the people. The Bible says Mordacai, the cousin of Esther, raised her because she was orphaned. But according to the Septuagint version of the story, Esther and Mordecai are said to have a secret sexual relation as in the relation of Dimmesdale and Hester. As a version of Satan, Roger Chillingworth finds a counterpart in Haman, who lived in the pursuit of revenge, ruining himself in the course of his revenge against Mordecai. The theme of the Book of Esther is to explain and justify the celebration of Purim festival, the symbol of redemption of the chosen people Israel; the theme of Dimmesdale's sermon, the climax of this work, is to prophesy the high and glorious destiny of the newly gathered people of God. The Book of Esther is unique among the books of the Old Testament not to include the word God, which is strange in that the purpose of the Bible is to disclose the grace of God and redemption of Jesus Christ. Likewise, The Scarlet Letter does not have the word adultery and the scene of seduction, even though it deals with the woman committing adultery.

무선 메쉬 네트워크에서 적응적 경쟁 윈도우를 이용한 TCP Fairness 개선 방안

Wireless Mesh Networks(WMNs) is generally composed of radio nodes in the mesh topology. WMNs consists of mesh client, mesh router and gateway connected to a wired network. Each client and router relay messages to the gateway for communication. WMNs is widely used recently in many areas can provide extended coverage based on multi-hop communication and ubiquitous communication at any time and any location. However the competition and collision between each node to transmit data is inevitable when the same channel is used for transmission. The transmission opportunities and the throughput of nodes located far from gateway decrease more if the communication channel is accessed based on competitive CSMA/CA scheme using DCF(Distributed Coordination Function) provided by IEEE 802.11 MAC. In this paper, we improve the performance of the TCP fairness and throughput of the nodes with more than 2 hops by applying various algorithms for controlling contention window values. Also, we evaluate the performance using ns-2 simulator, According to the results, proposed scheme can enhance the fairness characteristic of each node irrespective of data to the gateway.
