At the end of 1990s the franchise business, leading by the restaurant business, has been rapidly grown. However, since Korean financial crisis, the instability of employment was deepened and the household incomes were decreased in the sudden change of inner and outer environments of Korean society. Thus, retired employees and housewives were attracted to the franchise business due to its merit of demanding small amount of initial capital to make easy access for business foundations. Vicious franchisers were appealed so many and gathered franchisees, but the actual situation in Korea was that the laws and regulations, which defined and governed the business transactions between the franchiser and the franchisee, were not yet prepared. According to the data from the Korea Consumer Protection Board, since the financial crisis of Korea, from December 1997 to February 1998, the number of counseling cases regarding the damages related to franchisers was four hundreds and sixty-eight, 33.0% increase from the year before. Like those, some franchisers abused the characteristics of franchise business, the ability to direct and control franchisee's operation, and formed the franchise contracts, which were lucrative to them. Thus, they left many disadvantages to franchisees, the weak in terms of financial position, and all kinds of side effects, caused by this, spread as a social problem. Among the many and various characters in the highly dramatic poem, Paradise Lost, Abdiel is no doubt a miinor one. He appears in the latter part of Book V, denounces vehemently Satan for his ambition and pride, being ridiculed by him, and leave the revellious angels behind to join God. He reappears in the beginning of Book VI, being highly praised by God for his act, and joins the battle in Heaven with Michael and Gabriel and administers his first blow to Satan. That is all. He is heard no more. Compared with the major characteres in Paradise Lost, such as God, Son of God, Satan, Adam, and Eve, the role of Abdiel, like that of the many minor characters, such as Beelzebub, Death, Sin, Moloch, Belial, Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, look insignificant and even negligible, even if interesting, in the development of the story and the noble and serious theme of the poem. However, the case of Abdiel is unique as well as worthy of the careful reader's scrutiny. Study of Abdiel leads not only to the understanding of Milton's artistic considerations in composing Paradise Lost, but also of his moralistic convictions as well. Criticisms of Paradise Lost in the past as well as at present, home as well as abroad, have been made mostly of the major characters in Paradise Lost with great success, but without serious critical treatment of the minor characters. In this thesis I have chosen Abdiel as a typical minor characters among the many in Paradise Lost in order to examine how Milton achieves his artistic intention through the minor characters as well as major ones.

This study was conducted to investigate the pyrolysis products of ι-menthol by Curie-Point pyrolysis. The pyrolysis of ι-menthol was performed at 16$0^{\circ}C$, 42$0^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$, and 92$0^{\circ}C$ by Curie-Point Pyrolyzer and their pyrolysis products were analyzed by GC/MSD. In addition, tobacco leaves added ι-menthol were pyrolyzed at the same condition in case of ι-menthol. The beginning temperature for pyrolysis formation was in the vicinity of 42$0^{\circ}C$ and the major components of the pyrolysis products identified were iso-menthol, 2-menthene, menthomenthene, and menthone. The amount of these components was increased by increasing temperature and the hydrocarbons such as hexadecene and pentadecene formed by ring cleavage were generated at 92$0^{\circ}C$. The yield of ι-menthol in pyrolysis of tobacco leaves was decreased as the temperature of pyrolysis was raised and the pyrolysis products of ι-menthol weren't identified in the pyrolysis of tobacco leaves. Also, to analyze the weight decrease, ι-menthol was analysed by thermal analyzer(TA), and then the weight decrease of ι-menthol was occurred in the vicinity of 18$0^{\circ}C$.

Milton의 Paradise Lost 속에 분명하게 존재하고 있는 희극적 요소(comic elements)와 작품이 제시하고 있는 희극적 세계관(The comic vision of the world)에 대하여 지금까지 이 시를 해석하고 비평한 사람들이 별로 큰 관심을 보이지 않고 그대로 지나쳤다는 사실은 흥미 있는 일이 아닐 수 없다. 그러나 Paradise Lost는 Dante의 Divine Comedy가 comedy로 인식된다는 그런 의미에서 하나의 comedy이다. Dante는 Paradise Lost와 여러 면에서 흡사한(심각한 주체, 환상적인 배경, 종교적인 내용, 끔찍스런 묘사와 사건 등) 작품을 comedy라 불렀으며, 19세기 프랑스 소설가 Balzac는 자신의 연작 소설들을 La comédie humine라고 이름 지었다. 이들 작품들은 Milton의 paradise lost에서와 같이 그 속에는 인간적 상황(human phenomena)이 가득 차있으며 동시에 인가의 삶에 대한 긍정적 신념이 가득 차 있는 것이다. 비극(tragedy)이 “한 제왕의 몰락(the fall of a prince)"에 관한 이야기라면 희극(comedy)은 ”삶의 승리(triumph of life)"를 보여주는 이야기인 것이다.
