Objectives : There are many kinds of method to evaluate neural decompression during operation. They are direct visual and manual inspection, intraoperative ultrasound, endoscope, intraoperative computed tomography and intraoperative myelography. We used intraoperative myelography to evaluate the proper decompression of neural elements during the decompressive surgery. Methods : We injected 10-20cc of nonionic water-soluble contrast materials through direct puncture site of exposed dura during operation or lower lumbar level or lumbar drain inserted preoperatively. 12 patients were included in this study. They were 7 patients of centrally herniated lumbar disc disease, 1 patient of multiple lumbar spinal stenosis, 2 patients of thoracic extradural tumor and 2 cervical fracture & dislocations. Results : 5 of 12 patients showed remained neural compression through intraoperative myelography, so they were operated further through other approach. Myelographic dye is heavier than CSF, so the dependent side of subarachnoid space was visualized only. In one case, CSF leakage through hemovac was detected, but it was treated only bed rest for 5 days after hemovac removal. Conclusion :Intraoperative myelography is an effective method to evaluate neural decompression during spinal surgery. This technique is easy and familiar to us, neurosurgeons.

The authors present a case of brain abscess in a patient with primary mucociliary transport failure. Primary mucociliary transport failure is unfamiliar term to neurosurgeon. It encompasses three hereditary disorders, that is, primary ciliary dyskinesia, cystic fibrosis and Young's syndrome. Clinical manifestations in these disorders appear to overlap each other, e.g., male infertility and chronic sinopulmonary infections. These are characterized by ciliary dysfunction or abnormality of mucus secretion therefore recurrent infection occurs in organs containing the mucociliary transport system. Major causes of non-traumatic brain abscess are sinusitis and pulmonary infection. So the possibility of brain abscess is much higher if mucociliary transport failure exists. Especially, young patients who have brain abscess coexisting with chronic sinopulmonary infection should be considered primary mucociliary transport failure.
CVD 방법을 이용한 단결정 InSb 나노와이어의 성장과 Open/Close 시스템에서의 반응 메커니즘 연구

화학적 증기증착(Chemical Vapor Deposition, CVD) 방법을 이용하여 단결정 Indium antimonide (InSb) 나노와이어를 $SiO_2$ wafer 위에 성장시켰으며, 성장된 InSb 나노와이어의 결정성과 조성비를 X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)과 Energy Dispersive x-ray Spectroscopy (EDS)의 측정을 통하여 확인하였다. 또한, 반응 source로 사용된 InSb 분말의 기상화(vaporization) 정도를 source container의 모형, 즉 open 및 close 시스템으로 변형하여 조절하였고 이렇게 성장된 InSb 나노와이어들의 구조적 특성을 주사전자현미경(Scaning Electron Microscopy, SEM)을 통하여 자세히 분석함으로써, 그들의 성장과정을 Vapor-Liquid-Solid (VLS) 및 Vapor-Solid (VS) 메커니즘으로 설명하였다. Open-boat를 사용하여 나노와이어를 성장시켰을 경우, close-boat 의 경우와 비교하여 합성된 나노와이어의 yield가 높았으며 나노와이어의 길이와 두께도 증가하는 현상이 관측되었다. 이러한 결과는, InSb source 의 기상화 정도가 close-boat에서 보다 open-boat에서 더욱 가속화되면서 공통적으로 일어나는 VLS 성장 이외에 VS 성장이 추가적으로 진행되어지기 때문으로 추측되어진다. 또한, 반응시간을 증가시켰을 때, 나노와이어의 두께가 증가하는 결과를 통하여 InSb 나노와이어의 성장에서 VS 메커니즘이 우세하게 작용하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. Single-crystalline InSb nanowire was synthesized on $SiO_2$ wafer via vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) mechanism using chemical vapor deposition method. According to the source container system (open or close) which contain InSb powder and $SiO_2$ wafer, the single-crystalline InSb nanowires have different growth mechanisms. Structural characterization of the InSb nanowires was examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Composition of the nanowires was investigated using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS). This study demonstrates that length and diameter of the InSb nanowires are long and thick using open-boat system by VLS and additional vapor-solid (VS) mechanisms, because open-boat system can carry a large amount of vapor-phase InSb precursor than close-boat system.
수막혈관종증과 연관되어 발생한 침윤성 수막종 -증례보고-

The authors present the case of a 9-year-old female patient with meningioma at left temporal area originationg from underlying meningioangiomatosis. The patien manifested complex partial seizure as the initial symptom. She had no stigmata of neurofibromatosis Type 2. Neuroradiological studies revealed an extraxial, contrast-enhancing lesions at left temporal lobe. After gross total removal of the tumor, histokogical examination revealed invasive meningioma with surrounding meningioangiomatosis. Although there were no signs of anaplasia, necrosis, or increased mitosis, tumor islands were observed in the adjacent brain parenchyma. The rare association of meningioangiomatosis and meningioma is discussed along with radiological and surgical findings.

Ependymomas are rare neuroepithelial tumors that arise from the ependymal cells of the cerebral ventricles, the central canal of the spinal cord and cortical rests. Some tumors may extend to the gray matter reaching the pial surface, but pure cortical ependymomas are uncommon. We report a case of ependymoma arising from extraventricular system, especially supratentorial falx. Sixty five-year-old woman presented memory impairment and apraxia was admitted to the our clinic. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain showed a 4.5×5.5 cm sized mass in the left occipital lobe, attached to the falx. The patient underwent the total tumor removal and the final pathology showed grade II cellular ependymoma. Because of the supratentorial and pure cortical ependymomas are rare, proper studies and pathologic confirm are needed to distinguish different tumors.

Clear cell meningioma is a recently recognized variant of meningiomas. We present a case of a 47-year old man with clear cell meningioma which involved right cerebellar hemisphere. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 3×3×4㎝ sized well enhanced round nodular lesion with mild mass effect. He underwent suboccipital craniectomy with a successful total removal of the tumor. To our knowledge, this is the first report of clear cell meningioma in our country.
