공공디자인과 도시브랜드의 중요성이 대두되면서 각 지역의 행정기관과 디자인계의 활동이 활발한 가운데, 우리는 디자인을 통해 지역의 정체성을 확립하고 홍보하는 다양한 결과물을 확인할 수 있다. 여러 가지 공공디자인 구성물 중 인쇄매체만의 역할이 있듯 공공시설물디자인 또한 지역의 정체성을 수렴하기 위해서는 조형디자인의 관점에서 해결해야 하는 과업과 역할이 있다. 본 논문은 지역정체성을 반영하는 공공시설물의 조형디자인 프로세스 제안 및 적용/검증을 목적으로 이 같은 과업에 일조 하는데 의의를 두고 있다. 본 연구는 공공시설물 디자인 과정에 지역의 정체성을 반영하기 위해 동반되어야 할 활동과 접근법을 제안한다. 이를 위해 기존 수도권 도시들이 정체성을 반영하고 있는 모티브 현황을 조사하여 직설화법으로의 편향과 무분별한 상징물의 사용, 시설물간의 부조화를 문제점으로 도출하였다. 해결의 방향을 선진 사례 분석을 통해 무분별한 장식 배제, 함축적인 조형의 사용, 시설물 통합 디자인으로 설정하고 이를 실천하기 위해 디자인 프로세스를 제안하였다. 제안된 프로세스는 크게 대상지의 핵심 가치 도출, 조형정체성 가설 수립 및 검증, 긍정효과 정의 및 디자인 지침 수립/전개로 이루어진다. 공공시설물의 조형요소를 지역정체성이 반영되도록 전개 과정부터 수정 보완할 수 있는 장점이 있는 이 프로세스를 특정 지역사례에 접목하여 공공시설물 디자인을 제안함으로서 가설을 검증하고자 하였다. 본 연구가 조형전개과정에서 특정 정체성과 상징성을 반영하기 위한 사례와 요소 연구로 발전할 수 있기를 기대한다. Nowadays, we can find lots of results to attempt for expressing identity of each city with design approach due to risen interest with public-design and city brand in our society. As visual communication designers take a role as design public sign with their own process, street-furniture should be designed with a view of product designer. Street furniture of reflecting identity in each city is proposed by a design process which is verified with some examples as a aim of a writing in this essay. Major problems such as ‘a representation of outspoken’, ‘insensitively using symbol of identity’ and ‘disharmonious design objects’ are revealed by a gathering recent date of method to reflect identity for city brand. Directions of solution are set with a exclusion of decoration, implicative forms and a integrated design, through a research of pioneering instance. A proposed design process is composed with core value research, Identity Exploration of Product Element and Definition of PVI&Design Implementation, Moreover, the process that let designers can fix and develop a tentative plan to reflect identity to each product at every step is applied to a specific place to evaluate it.

The library where the mankind`s knowledge has been accumulated and provided to the public is both tangibly and intangibly significant property. Recently as explosive increase in digital information, the library is changing by actively installing its utilizing system thereby users can access to it more easily. But for now it has a problem that this innovation is limited to providing digital information only. It still takes much time and effort to access to the analog documental information which is placed on one of the numerous sheves in a reading room. In this study, I suggest a bookshelf form factor in library which helps finding intended information promptly and clearly.

독거노인을 위한 트렌드 스마트 워치 디자인 연구 - 건강 모니터링을 중심으로 -

This research studies trendy smart watch design for elders who live alone. A safty device is needed to substitute cohabitting family who used to monitor elders in the past. Some problems are detected in existing health monitoring devices and emergency alarming devices. Their usability and effectiveness are not satisfactory since actions like pressing a button are required to be taken by elders themselves in an actual emergency situation. Another weakness of existing devices is their incompatibility to smartpones, despite increasing number of smartphone use by elders. This research has a significance in preventing safety accidents casued by a rise in the number of elders who live alone, accelerated by aging population.

We have successfully digitalized various aspects of our lives for greater convenience. Unfortunately, the elderly are often not the beneficiary of digitalization. Older people experience sensitivity loss and thus cognitive decline. To share the benefit of digitalization with the elderly, we need to develop products that understand the challenges of aging. The study intends to identify the ways to improve the usability of digital products for elderly users, with particular emphasis on feedback and feed-forward. To accomplish the purpose, this article adopts a context-focused approach that focuses on interview and participatory observation, rather than a quantitative approach that focuses on the size of shape and sound. Since the elderly have low usability as a result of sensitivity loss and cognitive decline, the subjects are observed in a holistic manner. Four different digital products are used for the observations. Based on the observations, this study 1) evaluates the performance of different feedback and feedforward and 2) analyzes the relationship between performance and issues of aging and identify the characteristics of the most effective feedback and feedforward.
