Objective: This case report represented that Korean traditional medicine therapies can make effective results for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy(CIPN) patients. Methods: A 63-year-old female patient has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer(Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor). Total excision of uterus and appendages was operated, and Bleomycin, etoposide and cisplatin combination therapy was applied. After three cycles of chemotherapy, the severe side effects of neutropenia and CIPN occurred. Chemotherapy was terminated, but numbness and tingling pains in the limbs persisted for several months. We provided Korean medicine treatments including herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, moxibustion and physiotherapies. Results: After treatments, the numbness and pain were reduced from 10 to 1 in hand and 6 to 0 on the numeric rating scale(NRS). Functional assessment of cancer therapy/Gynecologic oncology group neurotoxicity (FACT/GOG-NTX) score was improved from 58 to 97. Conclusion: According to these results, Korean medicine treatments could be considered effective for CIPN. Prospective studies are needed to confirm and expand these findings.

Obje cti v e s: This study is to report the usefulness of ultrasound in diagnosing plantar fasciitis and the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided bee venom pharmacopuncture as a treatment of it. Methods: A 61-year-old woman suffered from plantar fasciitis on her right foot for 1 month. The sonographic findings were fascial thickening, blurring of perifascial border and perifascial effusion. The ultrasound-guided bee venom pharmacopuncture for 6 times and conventional Korean medicine therapies like acupuncture and moxibustion for 12 times in 5 weeks. Numeric rating scale (NRS) and foot function index(FFI) was used to evaluate the pain and its progress. and thickness of plantar fascia was measured by sonography every week. Results: After treatments, NRS and FFI were reduced from 10 to 1 and from 190 to 72. The thickness of fascia was reduced from 0.43cm to 0.40. Blurring and effusion of perifascial border were also improved. Conclusion: This report suggests that the Ultrasound-guided Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture is effective for Plantar Fasciitis. Ultrasonography could be one of the most valuable items in the clinical practice of Korean medicine doctors who seek minimally invasive treatment.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine whether heart rate variability (HRV) and pulse wave of cancer patients can be used as indicators of their health status and prognosis. Methods: We retrospectively compared HRV, pulse wave and body mass index (BMI) of cancer patients and healthy individuals who visited W hospital from November of 2020 to October of 2021. Results: As a result of comparing HRV and pulse wave parameters between cancer patients and healthy subjects, among HRV indices, mean heart rate (MHR), standard deviation of normal to normal (SDNN) and total power (TP), very low frequency (VLF) showed significant differences between two groups. Cancer patients' pulse wave parameters showed more rapid and superficial than that of healthy subjects. Also, cancer patients weighed less and had lower BMI. Conclusion: For increased MHR, decreased SDNN, rapid and superficial pulse wave can be indicators of poor prognosis of cancer patients, keep monitoring HRV and pulse wave can help to manage patients efficiently.

Objective: The purpose of this case study is to report the hydrocele of the canal of Nuck and the effectiveness of Korean medicine in post-surgery improvement of symptoms. Method: A patient who was diagnosed with hydrocele of the Nuck canal and had symptoms after Lichtenstein’s operation was treated using Korean medicine, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, and moxibustion, every day. The evaluation was performed using the Numeral Rating Scale (NRS), the 5-level EQ-5D version (EQ-5D-5L), the EQ visual analogue scale (EQ-VAS), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief (WHOQOL-BREF). Results: After treatment, changes were observed in NRS (from 8 to 2-3) and EQ-VAS (from 60 to 85), whereas there was no difference in EQ-5D-5L (both 6). There was an overall improvement in the domains of WHOQOL-BREF and subjective symptoms. Conclusion: This study suggests that Korean medicine may improve symptoms after surgery of hydrocele of the canal of Nuck and can be evaluated using an overall QoL questionnaire.
