This paper examines the current status of the copy of <Okpodonggiwannok>, the narrative method of the work, and the character of the main character. Until now, scholars in North and South Korea have studied only Chinese manuscripts. In this paper, the following results were derived by paying attention to the narrative characteristics of the printed book <Okpodonggiwannok> and the newly created character. First, the printed book <Okpodonggiwannok> expanded the narrative width through the expansion of characters and episodes. Second, the printed book <Okpodonggiwannok> has a complete frame structure, so it approached popularity, and it was not bound by 'educational' or 'ideological' like the Chinese text by processing the ending through the sijo(時調). Third, the main character of the printed book <Okpodonggiwannok> was born as a new toad character with excellent resourcefulness, martial arts protecting the community, and excellent judgment. 본고는 활자본 <옥포동기완록>의 이본 현황, 작품의 서사 방식, 주인공의 성격에 대해 살펴보았다. 그동안 남북한의 학자들은 한문 필사본만을 대상으로 연구해 왔다. 본고에서는 활자본 <옥포동기완록>이 갖는 서사적 특성과 새롭게 창출된 인물 성격에 주목하여 다음과 같은 결과를 도출했다. 첫째, 활자본 <옥포동기완록>은 인물과 에피소드의 확장을 통하여 서사의 편폭을 확대해 나갔다. 둘째, 활자본 <옥포동기완록>은 액자구조를 온전히 갖추고 있어 대중성에 접근했으며 시조를 통한 결말처리를 통해 한문본과 같은 ‘교술성’이나 ‘이념성’에 얽매이지 않았다. 셋째, 활자본 <옥포동기완록>의 주인공은 뛰어난 지략, 공동체를 지키는 무공, 뛰어난 판단력을 갖춘 새로운 두꺼비 캐릭터로 탄생했다.
