The relationship between cluster headache (CH) and sleep has been demonstrated. A 60-year-old man who suffered from refractory CH that occurred exclusively at night, complained of sleep fragmentation. Polysomnography revealed severe obstructive apnea with deep desaturation and sleep fragmentation every 2 hours due to cyclic pain. Three months of successful continuous positive airway therapy dramatically improved both headache intensity and frequency, as well as sleep apnea. This case suggests the significance of comorbid OSA when managing patients with CH or primary headaches with nocturnal tendencies.

막대한 양의 음식물 폐기물, 축산 폐수, 그리고 하수 슬러지의 발생은 항상 커다란 문제점으로 제기되고 있다. 혐기소화는 이러한 고농도 유기물 폐수를 처리함과 동시에 바이오가스를 생산하는 친환경적 공법이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 혐기소화 공정을 운전하는데 있어서 가장 큰 문제점으로 알려진 혐기소화조의 저해 농도로 알려진 1g/L 프로피온산 대한 미생물 제제로 이용될 가능성이 있는 프로피온산 분해 미생물 군집을 실험적으로 검증하였다. 프로피온산 농도 1g/L를 총 34차의 반복 회분식 배양을 통해 프로피온산 분해 미생물를 증균 배양하였고, 일원배치법을 통해 4개의 반응기 모두 같은 가스 발생 속도임을 확인하였다 (P ≤ 0.779). 4개의 반응기의 미생물 분석결과, 모든 반응기에서 S. propionica와 99% 유사도를 가지는 미생물이 발견되었고, S. propionica의 경우, 수소를 1mol 소비하고 acetate를 3mol 발생시키기 때문에 S. propionica가 우점 할 경우 아세트산 이용성 메탄균도 함께 우점했을 것으로 유추한다. 반면, S.sulfatireducens는 순수 배양에서 sulfate를 환원하여 프로피온산을 분해하거나 수소 이용성 메탄균과 syntrophism을 이루며 분해하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 시간적 제약으로 고세균 미생물 정성 분석과 박테리아 및 고세균 정량 분석을 수행하여야 프로피온산 분해 및 가스 발생과 미생물 조성 및 양간의 상관 관계를 더욱 심도 있게 확인할 수 있을 것이라 판단된다.

Objective: There have been various reports on how Angiotensin-Converting-Enzyme (ACE) gene is associated with the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we investigated the degree of connection between the ACE gene polymorphism and selected risk factors that are significant to atherosclerosis. Methods: We determined ACE genotypes via Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assays on 77 elderly Korean females (age≥55) who were not taking any antihypertensive, lipid lowering or antidiabetic agents, and measured their body-mass index, blood pressure, lipids and fasting blood sugar (FBS). Using these measures, the degree of each factor's correlations with the different genotypes was analyzed. Results: LDL cholesterol level in 13 DD subjects was measured significantly higher than that in 28 II subjects (128±38 mg/dL vs. 106±24 mg/dL, P=0.01), and it was also higher than the level in 36 ID subjects (116±23 mg/dL) although the difference with 36 ID subjects was not as significant as with 28 II. HDL cholesterol level tended to show lower level in DD types compared to II types (48±14 mg/dL vs. 55±16 mg/dL). No associations between ACE gene and body-mass index, blood pressure and FBS were detected. Conclusion: The association of ACE polymorphism with cardiovascular diseases may be mediated, at least partially, through dyslipidema in elderly Korean women.

This study presents the development of soft sensors based on just-in-time learning (JITL) and dynamic time warping (DTW) for online quality prediction in multi-grade processes. Most industrial chemical processes are multi-grade processes that produce multiple products with distinct properties. Multi-grade processes, however, are difficult to monitor and control due to frequent process transitions and abrupt changes in operating conditions. The DTW-based JITL soft sensor modeling approach is proposed as a solution to the complexity of multi-grade process modeling. In the JITL modeling approach, a local model is trained online using historical samples that are similar to the query sample, allowing the model to account for multi-grade characteristics and process drifts. To account for process dynamics and temporal correlations, the suggested approach utilizes a data sequence as an input rather than a single data point. DTW calculates the similarity of data sequences by stretching the sequences to determine an optimal warping path. Additionally, sensitivity analyses of model hyperparameters are performed and a cross-correlation-based hyperparameter optimization approach is proposed. The advantages of the proposed approach are verified via multi-grade simulation studies. As a result, the proposed model outperforms a conventional JITL model based on the Euclidean distance.
