Objectives In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial activity of a 70% ethanol extract of Maneung-hwan (MEH), which is prescribed by practitioners of oriental medicine for use against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Methods The antibacterial activity of MEH against MRSA strains was evaluated using the disc diffusion method, broth microdilution method (minimal inhibitory concentration, MIC), checkerboard dilution test, and time-kill test. The mechanism of action of MEH was investigated by bacteriolysis using detergents or ATPase inhibitors Additionally, mRNA and protein expression were investigated by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blot assay, respectively. Results The MIC of MEH was 25~1,600 μg/mL against all the tested bacterial strains. We showed that MEH extract exerts strong antibacterial activity. In the checkerboard dilution test, the fractional inhibitory concentration index of MEH in combination with antibiotics indicated synergism or partial synergism against S. aureus. The time-kill study indicated that the growth of the tested bacteria was considerably inhibited after a 24-h treatment with MEH and selected antibiotics. To measure the cell membrane permeability, MEH (3.9 μg/mL) was combined with Triton X-100 (TX) at various concentrations N,N-dicyclohexylcarbodimide (DCCD) was also tested as an ATPase inhibitor. TX and DCCD cooperation against S. aureus exhibited synergistic action. Accordingly, the antimicrobial activity of MEH in the context of cell membrane rupture and ATPase inhibition was assessed. Additionally, the expression of genes and proteins associated with resistance was reduced after exposing MRSA to MEH. Conclusions These results suggest that MEH possesses antibacterial activity and acts as a potential natural antibiotic against MRSA. (J Korean Med Rehabil 2020; 30(1):31-45)

This paper deals with the computational work to characterize the formation and pinching of a plasma in an X-pinch configuration. A resistive magnetohydrodynamic model of a single fluid and two temperature is adopted assuming a hollow conical structure in the (r,z) domain. The model includes the thermodynamic parameter of tungsten from the corrected Thomas-Fermi EOS(equation of state), determining the average ionization charge, pressure, and internal energy. The transport coefficients, resistivity and thermal conductivity, are obtained by the corrected Lee & More model and a simple radiation loss rate by recombination process is considered in the simulation. The simulation demonstrated the formation of a core-corona plasma and intense compression process near the central region which agrees with the experimental observation in the X-pinch device at Seoul National University. In addition, it confirmed the increase in radiation loss rate with the density and temperature of the core plasma.
정부양곡관리의 전산화에 관한 연구 - 윤송모형을 중심으로 -

The objective of this study is to develop the Transportation Model of Linear Programming in which optimal transportation pattern by regions (origins and destinations) to minimize the total transportation costs can be obtained for handling government-held grains. As a result of computing the Transportation Model, the total transportation costs of transporting 1,058,507 metric tons from origins to destinations are 7,234 million won. So, the transporation cost is 6,834 won per ton in this model. But actual transportation cost in 1983 is 11,498 won per ton. Therefore when we distribute and transport the government-held grains from production factories to consumption warehouses, using this Transportation Model of Linear Programming is benefitable. Especially excluding the cost of computer, we could save more than two billion won of Government budget per year.

In this article, we present a brief explanation of simulation for magnetic confined fusion plasma. Devices for nuclear fusion experiment become large, complex, and expensive these days, so the simulation can be a valuable tool for understanding and expecting the fusion plasma physics. Research areas presented here are plasma equilibrium and instability, turbulence study, heating and current driving, boundary and divertor area plasma physics, and integrated operation scenario study. Traditionally, many foreign codes have been used because those are verified and stable, however our own MHD and gyrokinetic codes with better performance are under developing recently. While researchers have devoted their effort to make and use a simulation code in individual areas, many ones also endeavor to integrate the simulation codes in different areas for thorough understanding of fusion plasma physics.
대황견우산(大黃牽牛散) 에탄올 추출물의 Methicillin 내성 Staphylococcus aureus에 대한 항균활성 연구

Objectives The objective of this study is to determine the antimicrobial effect of Daehwanggyeonu-san(Dahwangqianniu-san,DGE) and synergistic effects with antibiotics oxacillin, ampicillin, and gentamicin against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus( MRSA). Methods The antibacterial activity of DGE extract was evaluated againest MRSA strains by using the Disc diffusion method, broth microdilution method(minimal inhibitory concentration; MIC), checkerboard dilution test. The checkerboard dilution test was used to examined synergetic effect of oxacillin, ampicillin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin with DGE extract. Results DGE showed antimicrobial activity against MRSA with an MIC value of 125∼250 μg/mL. In the checkerboard test, the interation of DGE with all tested antibiotics produced almost synergy or partial synergy against MRSA. Conclusions This study shows that DGE reduced the MICs of several antibiotics tested, and a remarkable antibacterial effect of DGE, with membrane permeability enhancers and ATP synthase inhibitors. This study can be a valuable source for the development of a new drug with low MRSA resistance. (J Korean Med Rehabil 2018;28(2):21-35)
관성 핵융합의 군사적 의의와 고에너지밀도 플라즈마 시뮬레이션 결과

Magnetic confinement, inertial confinement, and gravitational confinement are widely known for realizing nuclear fusion. Among them, Inertial confinement fusion(ICF), which is the origin of the hydrogen bomb, have been widely performed by several representative national laboratories such as Lawrence Livermore Laboratory(US), Lebedev Physical Institute(Russia), etc, for a long history. However, ICF in domestic is rarely studied due to the confidentiality and other various restriction. Considering the present nuclear threat in the Korean peninsula and national security environment, ICF should be actively studied and supported in the meaning of national security. The paper briefly outlines the origin of ICF and introduce high energy density plasma(HEDP), describes the laser ablation and wire implosion plasma. Also, pertinent simulation result using resistive MHD code will be shown with governing equation and physics model. Finally, the applications of ICF in defense will be introduced and underly the potential of the application in defense.
TRL과 SRL을 이용한 기술 로드맵 수립 – 핵융합 에너지 R&D 사례 중심

TRL(Technology Readiness Level)은 여러 가지 장점으로 기술 개발을 위한 로드맵 수립 과정에서 많이 활용된다. 그러나 다수의 기술분류와 하위 기술이 존재하는 경우 전체 시스템 차원의 연구개발 진척도 또는 TRL을 파악하기에는 부족하다. 또한 시스템 기술의 경우 하위기술의 완성도가 전체 기술의 완성도와 같다고 보기에는 무리이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 SRL(System Readiness Level) 방법론을 활용한다. 사례 분석을 위하여 핵융합 분야 기술개발 로드맵을 대상으로 한다. 로드맵 수립 과정에서 전문가 자문을 통하여 도출된 기술트리에 대하여 TRL, IRL(Integration Readiness Level)을 결정하고 각 세부기술간 SRL을 계산한다. SRL은 세부 기술간 TRL, IRL을 바탕으로 산출한다. IRL은 별도의 네트웍 분석을 통하여 세부 기술간 연결 정도를 파악한다. IRL 네트웍 분석에 따라 연결성이 높은 기술을 식별하고 연구개발 과정의 핵심 경로를 인지할 수 있다.
