In this paper, the contents of the design and development process of the 6U micro-satellite Snipe (SNIPE, national name Toyosat; small scale magnetospheric and Ionospheric plasma experiment ), which was developed to observe the near-global space environment through polarization flight for the first time in Korea, were described. Snipe performs transversal flight to observe the Earth's surrounding space environment in three dimensions, and aims to simultaneously observe the space plasma density and temperature in the ionosphere, as well as temporal changes in the solar magnetic field and electromagnetic waves. In this way, it was developed by dividing it into a test certification model (EQM) and a flight model (FM) to perform the actual mission for at least six months, away from developing a cube satellite for short-term space technology verification or manpower training. Currently, Snipe, which has completed the development of a total of four FM and completed all space environment tests, is scheduled to launch 2023. In this paper, we introduce the design contents and development process of the Snipe satellite body ahead of launch, and hope that it will be a useful reference for the development of 6U-class micro-satellite for full-scale mission in Korea.

This study reports the survey results on the needs of primary school English learners who are receiving private instruction. A nation-wide questionnaire survey was carried out, and a total of 1,214 learners took part in the study, including their 235 parents. The results showed that the learners had both instrumental and integrative motivation in their purposes of learning English. Their preferred methods of learning English were studying through game, computer, video and the Internet. Their most favorite topics were animals and games. Interestingly, the learners preferred topics related to introducing Korea to those related to describing English speaking countries. This topic preference was different from that of 1,467 primary school learners who participated in the needs analysis in 1995 about a decade ago. The overall results suggest that it should be necessary for the needs analysts, especially who are planning a national curriculum, to consider the needs of this particular group of learners for the betterment of a nation-wide primary school English education.
Theoretical Perspectives on Materials Evaluation and Selection in English Language Teaching

This paper aims to clarify the meaning of the term `materials` in the context of English language teaching and define materials evaluation and selection to differentiate it from materials development and adaptation. On the basis of a literature review, the definition of `materials` is suggested in terms of their physical and functional aspects. In regards to a physical form, `materials` cover a coursebook, potential coursebooks, workbooks or activity books, supplementary teachers` books, resource books, reference books, audio cassettes, video cassettes, newspapers, journals, CALL software, CD-Roms, Internet web-site, email in addition to one-off materials, i.e. photocopied handouts prepared by teachers, `teach-yourself` materials, `home-study` materials, and `self-access` materials. With regard to functional aspects, materials are intended to facilitate learner`s language learning in any way. We have attempted to extend our perception of materials evaluation through the discussion of conceptual development in definitions of educational evaluation, and included the activity of selection as evaluation by considering its pragmatic value. Based on our recognition of definitions and relevant remarks in the literature, we propose the following definition of materials evaluation: Materials evaluation is a decision-making process, which may involve making a judgment about the success of certain materials through empirically valid and reliable ways of information collection and/or about relative merit of some competing materials through a systematic process of information collection with regard to users in particular circumstances (or findings of language learning research).
