The two significant changes in the computing technology in 1990's are the popularity of the the mobile computers and mobile communication. The users of the mobile computers and mobile communication systems can overcome the restrictions on the mobility of the wired network communication. Considering the future high-speed communications, internet could be the best answer to expand the wireless network to the neighboring fixed network and information network. As a result, in order to seamlessly interconnect the multiple wireless network and to support the fixed and mobile hosts of various types in a wireless environment, internet(web) access gets focus as a proper networking infrastructure. In this paper, I explain the concepts of the mobile computing and its future. I also give some research result regarding the network structures to support mobility. The current movement in the IETF and the future directions of the Mobile IP is introduced and give some basic idea on the web access while changing the locations by commenting on WAP and WAE.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a cellular compartment responsible for biosynthesis and folding of newly synthesized proteins destined for secretion, such as insulin. ER stress plays a role in the pathogenesis of diabetes and is associated with pancreatic β-cell damage. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of KIOM-79, a mixture of plant extracts, on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced ER stress in pancreatic RINm5F β-cells. STZ induced characteristics of ER stress; the release of Ca^(2+) from ER,increased ER staining, induction of glucose-regulated protein-78, phosphorylation of PKR-like ER kinase, and eukaryotic initiation factor-2α, as well as cleavage of activating transcription factor-6, whereas KIOM-79 inhibited these changes. Moreover, KIOM-79 inhibited STZ-induced apoptotic cell death. STZ induced CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-homologous protein (CHOP) and cleavage of caspase 12, which are ER stress-induced apoptosis regulatory proteins; however, KIOM-79 suppressed these effects. KIOM-79 suppressed apoptosis induced by STZ treatment in CHOP siRNA-transfected cells. Furthermore,KIOM-79 restored cell viability decreased by STZ treatment via ER-stressed apoptosis. The pancreatic β-cells damaged by STZ had decreased levels of insulin, and KIOM-79 restored the levels. Taken together, these results suggest that KIOM-79 had cytoprotective effects against STZ-induced apoptosis by interrupting the ER stress pathway.
무선데이터 통신을 위한 IWF(Interworking Function)설계 연구

Since 1980's, the need for the wireless service has been rapidly grown. Even in the data communication area, similar to the voice communication, because of the mobility that can be provided by the wireless service, the users can enjoy the convenience of the wireless communications. Wireless communication can be applied to various services such as the file transfer, voice mail arrival notice, remote credit check, etc. In this paper, I propose a way to design a Interworking Function to provide a wireless data service using the already existing cellular network.
Flow Aggregation of Rate Controlled Round-Robin Scheduler
김기천 한국전자통신연구원 2004 ETRI Journal Vol.26 No.4
Flow aggregation is a scalable method to provide quality of service (QoS) guarantees to a large number of flows economically. A round-robin scheduler is an efficient scheduling algorithm. We investigate flow aggregation using a round-robin scheduler and propose the use of periodic timer interrupts for rate control of the roundrobin scheduler. The proposed flow aggregator is a singlestage scheduler compared to Cobb’s two-stage flow aggregator consisting of an aggregator and nonaggregating scheduler. It is possible to implement flow aggregation in the existing routers with only a software upgrade. We also present a simulation study showing the delay behaviors of the proposed algorithm.
