위에서 보아온 바와 같이 평화공존원칙이란 당초 소련 학자들의 개념으로서, 독특한 사회주의적 내용이 포함되었을 뿐 아니라 사회주의군영내의 강대국으로서의 소련의 정치적입장을 대변하는 국제법이론인 것이다. 강대국의 국제법이론이란 특색은 평화공존원칙에 포함되어 있는 일반민주주의원칙이 그들간에는 상이하게 적용된다는 이론에 뚜렷이 나타나있으며 체코사태의 해석 또한 그러한 논리 위에 이른바 사회주의적국제주의원칙중의 상호원조원칙으로서 설명하고 있는 것이다. 평화공존원칙이 갖고 있는 사회주의적내용이란 그것이 역사발전법칙에 종속되어 있다는데 명백하게 나타나있다. 그들의 마르크스레닌주의에 입각한 역사발전법칙에 적합하다고 판단되는 국제법칙범은 평과공존원칙을 강화하는 진보적이고 민주적인 규범으로 간주한다. 평화공존원칙은 “마르크스주의적자연법”에 종속됨으로서 “국제법이 없는 시대”에 도달하기 우해 투쟁하는 국제법의 기본원칙인 것이다.

The acceptance and application of H. Wheaton's Wanguogongfa(萬國公法) was both a struggle of images between East and West from the viewpoint of international relations, and a clash between the traditional East Asian world order and the modern world order. The main purpose of this paper is to clarify the process of acceptance of Wanguogongfa and its influence on the Chosen dynasty. In the early years of acceptance (1876-1882), only one faction seemed to positively accept Wanguogongfa in the Chosen dynasty. Nevertheless, this faction succeeded in applying the core of Wanguogongfa to actual events with the backing of King Kojong(高宗). In the period of active acceptance (1882-1894), there were desperate efforts to escape from the suffering of the international atmosphere encompassing the Chosen dynasty by means of acceptance and application of Wanguogongfa. But, those endeavors failed due to the Sino-Japanese War, so a period of scepticism about Wanguogongfa began (1894-1910). In these process, there were many misunderstandings and distortions about Wanguogongfa. These misunderstandings were common due to clashes between heterogeneous civilizations. In this respect, the problem of acceptance and application of Wanguogongfa is an issue of both the 19th century and the present in Korea.
