This paper proposes an hybrid person identification algorithm utilizing finger crease pattern and finger thickness profiles which is assumed to improve the performance of the person identification algorithm utilizing only finger crease pattern. We tracked boundaries of the fingers and computed the thickness of the boundaries, thereafter performed the verifications of a person by matching one dimensional profiles of finger crease and finger thickness profiles together. This algorithm shows the possibility of an hybrid biometrics identification system. Lastly, the comparative evaluation on our system and the other algorithm is presented.
하수오(何首烏)와 백하수오(白何首烏)의 기원과 명칭에 대한 연구

Polygoni multiflori Radix has been used as a tonic medicine. In Korea, Cynanchi wilfordii Radix have been used too. Their names are resembled, but their plant origines are different. Polygoni multiflori Radix is called 何首烏 or 赤何首烏, and Cynanchi wilfordii Radix is 白何首烏 or 白首烏. They are suggested that they had been confused using at the early days in drug history. Polygoni multiflori Radix is enclosed in the pharmacopoeias of Korea, North Korea, Chinese and Japan. The nomina of pharmacopoeias are 赤何首烏 at North Korea and 何首烏 at other countries; Korea, Chinese and Japan. Cynanchi wilfordii Radix is just enclosed in Korea and North Korea. It means that Cynanchi wilfordii Radix has been commonly prescribed in Korea and North Korea than other countries. The nomina of pharmacopoeias are 白首烏 in Korea and 白何首烏 in North Korea. The characteristics of 何首烏 in ancient herbal records are confused of Polygoni multiflori Radix and Cynanchi wilfordii Radix. But Polygoni multiflori Radix is fixed at 何首烏 later. In Korea (south and north) Cynanchi wilfordii Radix has been recorded to using in 東醫寶鑑 that was Korea traditional Medicinal book and wrote at 1613. The 白首烏 is named in chinese about 20 century, but 白何首烏 is in korea about 19 century. In these consequences, prescription of Cynanchi wilfordii Radix in Korea is earlier than Chinese and Japan, and more common consumption too. So the nomen of 白何首烏 is better properly than 白首烏 in Korean Herbal pharmacopoeia.

Objective : Assuming that the characteristic of meridian system has been similar to this of electric potentials in human body and that measurements of electric potential at well(井穴) and sea (合穴) points in branches of the twelve meridians(WSBTM) will be representative of measurements of the twelve meridians, to measure the electric potentials of 13 patients with Lumbago due to strain and contusion(좌섬요통<挫閃腰痛>, LSC), to find out the characteristic of meridian system in patients with LSC. Methods : Electric potentials of well and sea points in the meridians in twenty one patients with the pain in the lion diagnosed as LSC were repeatedly measured by physiograph(PowerLab). Measurements of those electrical potentials were analyzed by factor analysis. Results : The electric potentials of WSBTM at the left side were divided into four factors. On the other hand those at the right side Were divided into four factors. Conclusion : In conclusion, their electrical potentials at the left and right side were factors which are different from each side. Thus electrical potentials of well and sea points might be the representative meridian to show their characteristics.

Measurements of those electrical potentials were analyzed by factor analysis. Results : The electric potentials of WSBTM at the left side were divided into five factors. On the other hand those at the right side Were divided into four factors. Conclusions : In conclusion, their electrical potentials at the left and right side were each other five and four factors. Thus electrical potentials of well and sea points might be the representative meridian to show their characteristics.
클러스터링 기법을 이용한 손가락 마디지문 식별 알고리즘

This paper proposes a finger crease pattern identification algorithm utilizing a clustering method. The algorithm has been developed for the use of biometric person identification system. Since the finger crease pattern may be well-imaged utilizing low cost imaging devices such as low-end CCD camera with LED lighting, the feasibility of commercialization of the algorithm and the system utilizing the proposed algorithm may be justified if the finger crease pattern is a reasonable choice for a biometric feature. In this paper, we exploit this possibility and show the potential of using the finger crease pattern as a feature for biometric person identification.
손등 정맥 패턴의 회전 왜곡을 보상한 개인 식별 알고리즘의 연구

This paper proposes an enhanced algorithm for person identification system utilizing hand vein pattern. The conventional algorithm does not cope with distortion caused by image rotation caused by misplaced hands on the imaging device. A straightforward approach to consider the rotaional compensation required too much computational load, thus, we devised an approach to expect the rotation direction along with image translation, reducing the compuational requirement dramatically. In this paper, we present the detail of the algorithm with experimental results with the new algorithm.
잡영과 왜곡이 심한 한글 문자의 자소분리 및 인식에 관한 연구

This paper presents an algorithm to separate vowels from consonants in Korean characters captured in noisy environment andto recognize them. The algorithm has been originally developed for recognition of the usage code (which is represented by a single Korean character) in the license plates of Korean vehicles. It, however, could be easily adopted to other applications with minor changes, in which character recognition is needed and the environment is noisy. The key ideas of the algorithm are to localize the vowels utilizing Hough transformation and to separate the vowels from consonants utilizing mathematical morphology. We observed that the presented algorithm effectively separates vowels even if the vowels and consonants are joined together after thresholding. We also observed that our algorithm outperforms some conventional algorithms especially when the input images are noisy. The details of the comparison study are presented in the paper.
