        Background: The sigmoid septum described an anatomical variation in the contour of the left ventricular outlet. It is related to degenerative change with aging. We observed clinical significance of sigmoid septum in Korean. Methods: Echocardiographic examination was performed in 434 patients. Sigmoid septum is defined as discrete bulging of the proximal interventricular septum with that thickness is greater than 1.3cm or the thickness is grater 1.5 times than adjacent mid interventricular septum in apical 3 chamber view. Result: The incidence of patient with sigmoid septum(septum patient) is 24.8% (male 8.4%, female 16.3%) . The incidence increases with age and is more common in women. The patients with sigmoid septum were compared with targeted groups, there was no significant difference in blood pressure between them, but in height and weight, the former were lower. (p<001, p<03). In the patients with sigmoid septum, weight and the surface area of a body have an opposite correlation with increase of age (p<03, r=-0.34) (p<04, r=-0.31) , but no decrease of height was found according to age increase (p=0.47, r=-0.11) The main reason patients with sigmoid septum ask echocardiolography and its clinical symptoms were abnormal results of previous electrocardiography and/or usual chest pain. Compared with control group, interventricular septal thickness is larger in septum patients (p<001). The thickness of interventricular septum located in subaortic left ventricular outflow tract is 1.6±0.3cm. There is another web like structure that continued from interventricualr septum to anterior free wall of left ventricle and the width is 1.6±0.4cm. A sign of insignificant obstruction due to left ventricular outflow was observed from three sigmoid septum patients. Conculusion: Septum patient is largely found in older age group and the body weight and body surface area are lower than control group. The body weight and body surface area are opposite correlation with age. So sigmoid septum is considered as structural change by weight reduction with aging. It is assumed that septum patients are related with asymptomatic ischemia because they have more abnormal ECG finding such as T wave inversion on precordial leads or standard leads, nonspecific ST-T change, LBBB etc. Sigmoid septum is not only proximal interventricular septal bludging but also another web like structure continuing to anterior wall of left ventricle.

      • 실내 NO₂농도 및 NO₂개인 폭로량에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 : Centering University and Personnel in Pusan 부산지역 모 대학교 및 교직원과 학생을 대상으로

        부산의 도심지역에 위치한 모 대학교 및 교직원과 학생을 대상으로 1990년 2월 1일부터 3월 31일까지 NO₂개인 폭로량과 그들이 활동하는 강의실, 연구실, 실험실, 사무실 등의 실내 NO₂농도를 측정하였다. 동시에 NO₂농도에 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대되는 난방형태, 난방기 가동시간, 환기형태, 조사장소의 면적, 연료소비량, 흡연습관 등의 변수에 대한 조사를 실시하여 NO₂에 대한 영향정도를 평가하기 위해 영향인자를 독립변수로 하여 다분류 해석법을 시행하였다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 실내 NO₂총 평균농도는 27.5±20.2 ppb 였으며, 각 건물마다 NO₂평균농도는 차이가 있었다 (p<0.05). 2. 난방기를 가동하는 장소에서 가동하지 않는 장소보다 NO₂농도가 높았으며, 발열식 보다 대류식 난방기를 사용하는 곳에서 NO₂농도가 더욱 높았다(p<0.05). 3. 창문을 열어서 환기를 하는 것이 실내 NO₂농도를 낮추는 데 효과가 가장 컸다. 4. 실내 NO₂개인 폭로량은 평균 57.8±41.0 ppb 였으며, 건물의 위치에 따라 NO₂개인 폭로량에 차이가 있다(p<0.05). 5. 교직원이 학생보다 NO₂개인 폭로량이 많았다(p<0.05). 6. 난방기를 가동하는 곳에서 근무하는 사람들은 가동하지 않는 곳에서 근무하는 사람들보다 NO₂개인 폭로량이 많았다(p<0.05). 7. 난방기 가까이에서 근무는 사람은 난방기에서 떨어진 사람보다 NO₂개인 폭로량이 많았다(p<0.05). 8.실내 NO₂에 영향을 미치는 정도는 각 건물간 영향이 가장 컸으며, 다음이 난방형 형태, 환기형태 순이었다. 9. NO₂개인 폭로량에 영향을 미치는 정도는 각 건물간 영향이 가장 컸으며, 다음이 난방형태, 난방기로부터 거리 순이었다. 10. 겨울철 실내에서 난방기를 가동할 때에는 환기(특히 창문을 이용)를 하는 것이 실내 NO₂농도를 낮추는 데 효과적이며, 난방기로부터 되도록 떨어져 생활하는 것이 NO₂개인 폭로량을 줄이는 데 효과가 큰 것으로 나타났다. Indoor air quality is very important to human wellbeing because people spend much of their time indoors, in some cases indoor air quality is remarkably different from that of outdoor. Many energy conservation strategies for residences involve reducing house air exchange rates. Reducing the air exchange rate of house can cause an increase in pollutant levels if there is an indoor pollution source. Recently nitrogen dioxide( NO₂) has been regarded as one of the important indoor air pollutants. In this study, indoor NO₂levels were measured to provide the fundamental data for evaluation and control on the health effect relevant to NO₂levels. The levels of NO₂were measured by the Palmes method on 279 subjects in a university located in Pusan city from February to March 1990. The results of the study were summarized as follows: 1. The mean indoor NO₂level was 27.5±20.2 ppb. 2. Personal NO₂exposure level was 57.8±41.0 ppb. 3. The mean indoor NO₂level was significantly higher at room with heater than without heater and significantly lower at vented room than in unvented room. 4. The personal NO₂exposure level was significantly higher at group with heater than without heater. 5. The factors affecting indoor NO₂concentration and personal exposure levels were location(by building), heating facility, mode of ventilation, residents(by building), distance from heater by the multiple classification analysis. Therefore, it is concluded that artificial ventilation and distance away from heater were effective means for reducing indoor NO₂levels and personal NO₂exposure levels.

        Aqueous solution with the dissolved ammonia is used in the manufacture of fertilizers, refrigerants, stabilizers and many household cleaning agents. The wide applications result in ammonia contamination in water. Ammonia can be removed from water by physical, biological, and chemical methods. Especially ozonation is effective in the treatment of water with low concentration of ammonia. Therefore, this study is undertaken to provide kinetic data for the ozonation of ammonia. The rate of reaction was proportional to the influent ozone concentration and the overall kinetics was applied as the first or second order. The reacted ammonia was converted completely to nitrate ion. The destruction rate of ammonia increased gradually with the influent ozone concentration.

      • 국내산 천연 제올라이트에 의한 폐수중에 질소 제거 특성

        This study was conducted to examine the ion-exchange capacity and experimental basic parameter of ammonia-nitrogen by the domestic natural zeolite. The amount of NH₄^+ ion-exchanged by the domestic natural zeolite was affected by the particle size, the order was -40/+100 > -14/+20 -200/+325 -4/+8 mesh. The removal efficiency of NH₄^+ ion-exchanged decreased as the calcined temperature increased. The ion-exchange kinetics fitted from very well to the Freundlich isotherm, the amount of NH₄^+ ion-exchanged by the -40/+100mesh was higher than by the -200/+325mesh The effects of coexisting cations(Na^+, Ca^(2+)) on the ion-exchange by the domestic natural zeolite decreased the ion-exchange capacity and were found to be Na^+> Ca^(2+). The predominent ion exchanged with domestic natural zeolite was Na^+ and the extracted ion was Na^+> +K^+ > Ca^(2+) > Mg^(2+) > Al^(3+) in order of concentration.

Ammonia can be removed from water by physical, biological, and chemical methods. Especially ozonation is effective in the treatment of water with low concentration of ammonia. Therefore, this study is undertaken to provide kinetic data for the ozonation of ammonia at the high pH. The results were as follows: The oxidation rate of ammonia increased with pH, and the depletion rate of ammonia was first order with respect to pH. And the rate constant varied from 6.9 ?10^-4 to 62.2 ?10^-4 min^-1 as the pH increased from 7.1 to 12.1

        This study has been conducted to find the ammonium ion exchange characteristics of the natural zeolite with various regenerants and repeated regeneration. As the Na* concentration of the regenerant was increased, the desorption rate of ammonium ion was increased. After repeated regeneration with the regenerant as NaCl, the ion exchange efficiency and the desorbed NH₃-N concentration was gradually increased. Conclusionally, NaCl as regenerant showed the reversible desorption and ion exchange, but another was insufficient as regenerant.

        Photocatalyzed degradation of propylene gas was carried out over precoated titanium dioxide(anatase) illuminated W light in a flow reactor. photocatalytic oxidation of propylene gas indicated high conversion rates (78.0%) to CO₂ gas. And photocatalytic oxidation of gas according to a fold, twofold, and threefold of titanium dioxide(anatase) respectively gave high conversion rate. The longer reaction time was, the higher conversion rate to CO₂ gas showed.

        Carbazoles were discovered in anthracene oil of coal tar, and are the parent structure of a number of heterocyclic compounds. Much attention has been paid to carbazole derivatives recently as the materials for semiconductors and photoconductive compounds. Many conventional methods for synthesis of carbazoles were known such as Grabe-Ullmann methods and the Tauber methods. In the course of the investigation for the synthesis of pyrrole derivatives 3. We have found the formation of 9-arylcarbazoles 4 under refluxing glacial acetic acid. Thus we report the results here.

        Application of N-substituted (aminomethyl)benzoate Strategy in Design of Scutellarein Derivatives with Improved Caco-2 Cell Permeability and In Vitro Antioxidative Activity

        A series of 4′-N-substituted (aminomethyl)benzoate derivatives of scutellarein were designed and synthesized. Evaluation of their physiochemical properties showed that the designed target compounds 5a–e exhibit higher chemical stability and aqueous solubility than scutellarin and scutellarein. The permeability (Papp AP to BL ) of 5c–e in Caco-2 cells were 2.8, 8.1, and 12.6 times higher than that of scutellarin and 1.3, 4.1, and 6.0 times higher than that of scutellarein; especially, 5e had the highest P app AP to BL value (7.19 ± 0.31 × 10−6 cm/s) and the lowest ER (P app BL to AP /P app AP to BL ) value of 0.17. In vitro antioxidative evaluation results revealed that 5e could protect against H2O2 -induced PC12 cells’ oxidative damage by attenuating mitochondrial membrane potential loss and decreasing H2O2 -induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.
