This experiment was carried out to test performance of the domentic purebred fowl. The purpose of this experiment was to compare the productive performance of the purebred fowl to obtained basic materials for laying performance improvement by means of cross breeding. In this study, 1, 200 chickens was used-that is 6 purebred strains White Leghorns(720 chickens), 1 purebred strain Rhode Island Reds (120 chickens), 1 purebred strain New Hampshires (120 chickens). The results obtained in this study are as follows; 1. The average Viability of brooding, rearing and laying period was best for Rhode Island Reds and E. Strain among White Leghorns. 2. The average body weight at 8 weeks, first egg production days, 500days of age in W. L. was 546.86g. 1431.37g, 1738.34g, respectively, but there was no significant difference among. purebred strains of W. L. 3. The average Sexual maturity of 50% egg production was 170.58 days in W. L., but R. I. R. and S. N. H. were 189.94 days, 182.42days, respectively. There was significant difference at 1 % level among Strains. 4. The average hen-housed egg production was 214.16 eggs in W. L., but R. I. R. and S. N. H. were 214.22 eggs, 196.74 eggs, respectively. There was significant difference at 1% level among Strains, but the highest hen-housed egg production (231.84 eggs) was E. Strain among strains. 5. The average egg weight was 54. 48g in W. L, but R. I. R. and .S. N. H. were 56.12g, 54.90g, respectively, The highest egg weight (57.69g) was Coronial Strain of W. L. among strains. There was significant difference at 1 % Level among strains. 6. The average feed requirement was 3.01 in W. L. but R. I. R. and S. N. H. were 3.23, 3.52, respectively the highest feed requirement (2.79) was Coronial Strain of W. L. among strains. There was significant difference at 1 % level among strains. 7. On the basis of the results of this study, the productive performance was best for C. D. E. strains among W. L. and R. I. R.

Thermal deterioration of fuel due to long-term storage influences engine performance and causes malfunctions. Fuel stability is usually evaluated via heat resistance and thermal stability during a brief heat shock at high temperature; storage stability in this scenario means that there is very little change in the quality of the fuel during long-term storage. In addition, rubber-based products such as oil seals, O-rings, and rubber hoses can influence the quality of the fuel. When these rubber products are in contact with fuel, they can swell, mechanically weaken, and occasionally crack, thus leaking low molar weight rubber and additives including plasticizer and antioxidant into the fuel to degrade its properties and shorten its useful lifetime. This study determines the thermal stabilities of three kinds of synthetic fuels by evaluating their low temperature kinematic viscosities, chemical composition changes via GC analyses, gross heat of combustion, and color changes. We evaluate the compression set of O-rings by immersing one NBR and two FKM rubber O-rings in the three synthetic fuel samples in airtight containers at variable storage temperatures for six months; from this, we estimate the lifetimes of the O-rings using the Power law model. There were very little changes in the chemical compositions and gross heat of combustion after six months of the experiment. The lifetimes are thus dependent on the materials of the rubber products, and in particular, the FKM O-ring was calculated to have a theoretical lifetime of 200 to 5,700 years. These results indicate that the synthetic fuels maintain their physical properties even after long-term storage at high temperatures, and the FKM O-ring is suitable for long-term sealing of these fuels.
난청 동물모델에서 신경성장인자에 의한 청력회복과 나선 신경절재생에 관한 연구

Cochlear prostheses for the sensorineural hearing impairment are dependent on survival and excitability of the auditory nerve. Multiple neurotrophic factors have been shown to have important roles in the survival of auditory neurons and protecting spiral ganglion cells. This study evaluated the efficacy of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) combined with glial-cell derived neurotrophic factor(GDNF) and neurotrophin-3(NT-3), insulin growth factor(IGF), and epidermal growth factor(EGF) with fibroblast growth factor(FGF) application in 2 weeks post-deafening guinea pigs. Healthy 30 guinea pigs were deafened by infusion of kanamycin and ethacrynic acid. Myringotomy was done in both ears, gelfoams immersed with neurotrophic factors were placed on the round window membrane while gelfoams immersed with saline were applied to control ear. On 1 week after drug application, hearing test was done and the cochleae were collected in every 2 weeks. And the number of spiral ganglion cells was quantitatively analyzed. Significant hearing restoration was observed in group 1(BDNF, GDNF, NT-3 treated group) & group 2(IGF treated group). The number of spiral ganglion cells of group 1 on 5 week after the treatment, and group 3(EGF, FGF treated group) on 3 week after the treatment were significantly increased them compared with control group. However, no statistically significant regeneration was observed in group 2. These findings demonstrate that BDNF+GDNF+NT-3 neurotrophic factor application through round window membrane have the potential for regeneration of spiral ganglion cells & hearing restoration.
말기 신부전 환자에서 부갑상선 기능항진증으로 외과적 부갑상선 절제술을 시행 받은 환자의 임상적 경과

배 경 : 말기 신부전 환자의 내과적 치료에 교정되지 않는 중증 이차성 부갑상선 기능항진증시 외과적 부갑상선 절제술이 시행되어져 왔다. 부갑상선 절제술 시행 후 추적결과에 대한 보고가 드물어 본 연구를 시행하였다. 방 법 : 1990년부터 1999년까지 신촌세브란스병원에서 중증 이차성 부갑상선 기능항진증으로 외과적 부갑상선 절제술을 시행 받은 24 명을 대상으로 후향적으로 분석하였다. 결 과 : 술후 병리소견으로 미만성 17예, 결절성 6예, 선종이 1예였다. 임상증상으로 골통 또는 관절통은 19명(79.2%), 근육통은 17명(70.8%), 신체 불쾌감은 10명(41.7%), 소양증은 13명 (54.2%)였고, 술후 임상증상의 호전을 보였다. 술후 혈청 칼슘, 혈청 인, intact PTH는 각각 7.3±1.4 ㎎/dL, 4.0±1.3 ㎎/dL, 89.3±146.1 pg/mL로 술전과 비교하여 감소하였고(p<0.01), 혈청 alkaline phosphatase는 술후 738.8±935.1 IU/L로 술전 보다 증가하였다(p<0.01). 재발 5예 중 결절성 과증식형이 4예로 미만성 과증식형에 비해 높은 빈도를 보였고(p=0.006), 비재발군에 비해 수술 전후의 intact PT H의 감소차가 적었다(945.3±374.6 v s 1,385.8±481.8, p=0.036). 결 론 : 중증 이차성 부갑상선 기능항진증에서 외과적 부갑상선 절제술은 증상완화나 술후 intact PTH의 감소 등 좋은 결과를 기대할 수 있다. 병리학적 유형과 술후 intact PTH 감소 정도가 재발을 예측할 수 있는 인자로 생각된다. Backg round : Medical treatments such as restriction of phosphate, phosphate binder use, and active vitamine D therapy have been widely used for hyperparathyroidism in ESRD patients, and surgical parathyroidectomy should be considered in patients with uncontrolled hyperparathyroidism. Methods : A retrospective study w as performed in 24 ESRD patients with severe and uncontrolled hyperparathyroidism despite of medical treatment who undertook surgical parathyroidectomy in Severance hospital from 1990 to 1999. Results : Sixteen patients had total parathyroidectomy with immediate autotransplant, 7 patients had subtotal parathyroidectomy and only 1 patient had minimally invasive parathyroidectomy. An excellent short-term control of hyperparathyroidism was achieved in all patients after parathyroidectomy. Preoperative bone and joint pain improved in 16 of 19 patients. Muscle weakness and pain improved in 11 of 17 patiens, malaise improved in 8 of 10 patients and pruritus improved in 10 of 13 patients. In addition, clinical laboratory finding improved after parathyroidectomy. No clinical differences were seen between 16 patients who undertook total parathyroidectomy with immediate autotransplant and 7 patients who undertook subtotal parathyroidectomy. Recurrence of hyperparathyroidism ocurred in 5 of 24 patients with 4 nodular hyperplasia and 1 diffuse hyperplasia in pathologic finding . T he less degree of attenuated response of intact PTH levels immediately after operation w as observed in 5 recurrent cases. Conclusion : Good results were obtained after parathyroidectomy. We believe that histologic subtype and the attenuated response of intact PTH after surgical parathyroidectomy could be possible predictors of the recurrent hyperparathyroidism.
