Objectives: The study aims to identify and discuss the concept of the key assumption on which the indirect comparisons rely and to illustrate a practical approach to assure the validity. Methods: We firstly reviewed the theoretical background of the indirect comparisons and then suggested how the key assumptions can be assessed and accounted for using an example of common reference based indirect comparison. Results: The fundamental assumption behind the synthesized comparative effect obtained by indirect comparison is that the same effect would still be obtainable if it was directly measured in all of the trials that constitute the indirect comparison. An illustrative analysis demonstrated that conducting an indirect comparison without a meticulous assessment for the exchangeability could mislead the conclusion on the comparative effectiveness. Conclusions: Head-to-head trials could provide the most valid estimate of the comparative effect of a healthcare intervention. When competing interventions have not been evaluated in direct randomized trials or there is little available source by those trials, indirect comparisons may be utilized to provide an estimate of the comparative effect. However, the limitations also need to be highlighted, since the indirect comparison methodology relies upon certain important but conceptual and essentially unverifiable key assumption.

We report the case of a 43-year-old woman with Cushing‘s syndrome showing bilateral adrenococortical adenomas. We performed bilateral selective adrenal vein samplings. Hypersecretion of cortisol on the left sided adrenal tumor was observed, but no evidence of cortisol hypersecretion from the adrenal tumor on the right side was observed. The left adrenal tumor was resected selectively, but the right adrenal gland was reserved. The left adrenal tumor was histologically diagnosed as a adrenal adenoma without any evidence of nodular hyperplasia. Following the resection of the left adrenal gland, no cortisol hypersecretion from the remaining adrenal tumor on the right side was observed until now, suggesting that a selective adrenalectomy of functioning adenoma may be an acceptable treatment modality
Development of HDF Brower for the Utilization of EOC Imagery
Seo, Hee Kyung,Ahn, Seok Beom,Park, Eun Chul,Hahn, Kwang Soo,Choi, Joon Soo,Kim, Cheon 대한원격탐사학회 2001 International Symposium on Remote Sensing Vol.17 No.1
HDF (Hierarchical Data Format) is the standard file format for storing and distributing EOC data. It was created to help scientists reduce the time they were spending trying to convert data sets to familiar formats and spend more time to analyze data. HDF is a physical file format that allows storage of many different types of scientific data including images, multidimensional data arrays, record oriented data, and point data. EOC images will be distributed to the public or many user groups including government, public corporations, academic or research institutes. KARI will offer the online service to the users through Internet. Some application, like generation of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) needs a secondary data such as satellite ephemeris data, attitude data to process the EOC imagery. EOC imagery with these secondary data will be stored in a file of Hierarchical Data Format (HDF) file format. By the lack of softwares supporting HDF file format, the public users may not access EOC data without difficulty. In this paper, we develop an HDF browser which visualizes all the objects stored in a HDF file. It has a user-friendly interfaces through which they can access various type of objects in a file and extract any type of objects and stores them externally. In addition to the normal utilities browsing the contents of HDF file, it can handle the EOC data specially.

The purpose of Electro-Optical Camera (EOC), the primary payload of KOMPSAT-1, is to collect high resolution visible imagery of the Earth including Korean Peninsula. EOC images will be distributed to the public or many user groups including government, public corporations, academic or research institutes. By the lack of public domain softwares supporting HDF file format, many public users may not access EOC data without difficulty. The purpose of this research is to develop a browsing system of EOC data for the general users not only for scientists who are the main users of HDF. The system is PC-based and huts user-friendly interface.

Bioanalytical Application of SERS Immunoassay for Detection of Prostate-Specific Antigen
Yoon, Kyung-Jin,Seo, Hyeong-Kuyn,Hwang, Hoon,Pyo, Dong-Jin,Eom, In-Yong,Hahn, Jong-Hoon,Jung, Young-Mee Korean Chemical Society 2010 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.31 No.5
We demonstrate the possible application of the sandwich type surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) immunoassay using antigen-antibody binding for detection of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in cancer cells. In this sandwich type of SERS immunoassay, to capture antigens onto the immobilized layer of antibodies on the gold substrate we prepared the monolayer of gold nanoparticles on the APTMS-derivatized surface of a glass slide by using the SAM technique. This sandwich type of SERS immunoassay in which antigens on the substrate specifically capture antibodies on a Raman reporter (DSNB coated gold nanoparticles with R6G) could successfully detect PSA at low levels. A strong SERS spectrum of Raman reporter was observed only with a substrate in which PSA is present.

<P>Drug resistance is a major limitation to the long-term efficacy of controlling chronic hepatitis B (CHB). There is a growing need to analyse multiple mutations associated with drug resistance because sequential or combinational use of antivirals is increasingly being used in treatment. In this study, we introduced a multiplex restriction fragment mass polymorphism (RFMP) assay for detecting mutations conferring entecavir and lamivudine resistance, and compared its performance with direct or clonal sequencing assays.</P>
Multitracing Capability of Double-Scattering Compton Imager With NaI(Tl) Scintillator Absorber
Hee Seo,Chan Hyeong Kim,Jin Hyung Park,Jong Kyung Kim,Ju Hahn Lee,Chun Sik Lee,Soo Mee Kim,Jae Sung Lee IEEE 2010 IEEE transactions on nuclear science Vol.57 No.3
<P>The Compton camera can provide 3-D images of radioactive material distribution based on a single measurement at a fixed position. The Compton camera also can image several different kinds of radioactive materials simultaneously, by means of the “multitracing” capability. In the present study, this multitracing capability was tested for a double-scattering-type Compton camera, or Double-Scattering Compton Imager (DOCI), which utilizes two double-sided silicon strip detectors (DSSDs) and one NaI(Tl) scintillation detector. Our experimental result shows that the 137Cs and 60Co gamma sources can be clearly distinguished in 2-D and 3-D Compton images, and that there is no significant interference between the two gamma sources. The imaging resolutions were determined to be 6.2 and 4.7 mm FWHM for the 137Cs (662 keV) and 60Co (1332 keV) point sources at 4 cm, respectively. The angular resolutions, determined from the angular resolution measure (ARM) distributions, were 7.3° and 6.5° for the source energies of 662 and 1332 keV, respectively. The DOCI remains under development; its imaging resolution will be further improved with the incorporation of more sophisticated detectors and the related electronics, including a faster scintillation detector (LYSO) and higher-spatial-resolution position-sensitive detectors.</P>
