        High School Student-Teachers Attempts to Justify Mathematical Propositions Utilizing Spatial Structuring on Shape Transform

        A group of twenty-nine high school student-teachers were given a set of mathematical propositions focusing on shape-to-shape transformations. Their task was to determine through hands-on manipulation and use of dynamic software that each shape be transformed into an area equivalent rectangular region. This paper reports on a classroom-based research.

        Probabilistic-based damage identification based on error functions with an autofocusing feature

        This study presents probabilistic-based damage identification technique for highlightingdamage in metallic structures. This technique utilizes distributed piezoelectric transducers to generate andmonitor the ultrasonic Lamb wave with narrowband frequency. Diagnostic signals were used to define thescatter signals of different paths. The energy of scatter signals till different times were calculated by takingroot mean square of the scatter signals. For each pair of parallel paths an error function based on the energyof scatter signals is introduced. The resultant error function then is used to estimate the probability of thepresence of damage in the monitoring area. The presented method with an autofocusing feature is applied toaluminum plates for method verification. The results identified using both simulation and experimentalLamb wave signals at different central frequencies agreed well with the actual situations, demonstrating thepotential of the presented algorithm for identification of damage in metallic structures. An obvious merit ofthe presented technique is that in addition to damages located inside the region between transducers; thosewho are outside this region can also be monitored without any interpretation of signals. This noveltyqualifies this method for online structural health monitoring.

        Application of SSR Markers for Characterization of Genetic Diversity within Iranian Grapevine Cultivars (‘Askari’ and ‘Keshmeshi’)

        The present study was designed to identify intra-varietal diversity via SSR markers within ‘Askari’ and ‘Keshmeshi’ (Vitis vinifera L.). These two semi-seedless grape cultivars are used as table grape and raisin. Some accessions of these cultivars are morphologically different. For instance, some accessions had big berries with big bunches and empty seeds, whereas others had small berries in small bunches with soft seed traces. In order to evaluate these differences at the genetic level, we selected 14 SSR loci to evaluate intra-cultivar diversity. In total, 42 accessions of ‘Askari’, 10 accessions of ‘Keshmeshi’ and one accession of Sultanina as a control were analysed, using a capillary electrophoresis fragment sizing system. Genetic analysis discriminated six accessions of ‘Askari’ (No. A3, A21, A31, A44, A46, and A114) which were different from other accessions. These accessions were also different in some morphological traits. Accessions no. A3 and no. A21 had soft seed traces with berries and bunches that were smaller than others. Other accessions had empty seeds. Accessions no. A44, A46 and A114 had big bunches, big berries and empty seeds. In accession no. A31 berry shape was approximately round vs. oval shape in other accessions. The remaining accessions (36 accessions) were identical in 14 SSR loci. In ‘Keshmeshi’ four different accessions (No. K6, K8, K15, and K27) were discriminated in genetic analysis. In accessions no. K6 and no. K8, the number of bunch and yield per vine was higher than other accessions. In accessions no. K15 and no. K27, berries and bunches were bigger than others and the number of seed traces were higher than other accessions. Other six accessions were identical in14 SSR loci. Cluster analysis of all three cultivars divided accessions to three groups (each cultivar in one group) at 0.67 similarity coefficient. Our study showed SSR markers can be useful for identifying of intra-cultivar diversity.

      • Increasing Network Lifetime and Data Transfer through Node Vulnerability Aware Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks

        In this paper, we propose a routing technique that takes into account the importance of a particular node for the overall network connectivity for routing. We show that some nodes are more important than others and need to be used sporadically for data forwarding. Avoiding the use of such important nodes results in prolonging network lifetime and maximizing the data transfer. Simulation results are shown to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

        Variation of Li Diffusion Coefficient during Delithiation of Spinel LiNi<sub>0.5</sub>Mn<sub>1.5</sub>O<sub>4</sub>

        For this study, the sol gel method was used to synthesize the spinel LiNi<sub>0.5</sub>Mn<sub>1.5</sub>O<sub>4</sub> (LNMO) electrode material. Structural, morphological, electrochemical, and kinetic aspects of the LNMO have been characterized. The synthesized LNMO was indexed with the Fd3m cubic space group. The excellent capacity retention indicates that the spinel framework of LNMO has the ability to withstand high rate charge-discharge throughout long cycle tests. The Li diffusion coefficient (D<sub>Li</sub>) changes non-monotonically across three orders of magnitude, from 10<sup>-9</sup> to 10<sup>-12</sup> cm<sup>2</sup> s<sup>-1</sup> determined from GITT method. The variation of D<sub>Li</sub> seemed to be related to three oxidation reactions that happened throughout the charging process. A small dip in D<sub>Li</sub> at the beginning stage of Li deintercalation is correlated with the oxidation of Mn<sup>3+</sup> to Mn<sup>4+</sup>. While two pronounced D<sub>Li</sub> minima at 4.7 V and 4.75 V are due to the oxidation of Ni<sup>2+</sup>/Ni<sup>3+</sup> and Ni<sup>3+</sup>/Ni<sup>4+</sup> respectively. The depletion of D<sub>Li</sub> at the high voltage region is attributed to the occurrence of two successive phase transformation phenomena.

        A method for similarity measurement in spatial trajectories

        Owing to increasing number of moving objects and positioning technologies both indoors and outdoors, spatial databases have encountered immense amount of spatio-temporal data. This causes spatial analyses of trajectories to be one of the most interesting topics in GIS research recently. Finding similar trajectories are of high importance to utilize these analyses. Distance functions play the key role in similarity measurement to find similar trajectories. Thus far, various distance functions have been proposed, but they show some drawbacks for spatial trajectories due to their nature. In this paper, a novel method is proposed considering spatio-temporal behaviors of spatial trajectories. In first step, polyline with minimum number of line segments representing trajectory in correspondent space with acceptable similarity is fitted. Then, the comparisons of trajectories are based on fitted polylines. Robustness of trajectories similarity to noise and sampling rate is proven with 96% according to evaluations.

      • Privacy-preserving image retrieval for mobile devices with deep features on the cloud

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>With the prevalent use of mobile cameras to capture images, the demands for efficient and effective methods for indexing and retrieval of personal image collections on mobile devices have also risen. In this paper, we propose to represent images with hash codes, which is a compressed representation of deep convolutional features using deep auto-encoder on the cloud. To ensure user's privacy, the image is first encrypted using a light-weight encryption algorithm on mobile device prior to offloading it to the cloud for features extraction. This approach eliminates the computationally expensive process of features extraction on resource constrained devices. A pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) is used to extract features which are then transformed to compact binary codes using a deep auto-encoder. The hash codes are then sent back to the mobile device where they are stored in a hash table along with image location. Approximate nearest neighbor (ANN) search approach is utilized to efficiently retrieve the desired images without exhaustive searching of the entire image collection. The proposed method is evaluated against three different publicly available image datasets namely Corel-10K, GHIM-10K, and Product image dataset. Experimental results demonstrate that features representation using CNN and auto-encoder shows much better results than several state-of-the-art hashing schemes for image retrieval on mobile devices.</P>

      • Layering the Internet-of-Things with Multicasting in Flow-Sensors for Internet-of-Services

        Development of Internet-of-Services will be hampered by heterogeneous Internet-of-Things infrastructures, such as inconsistency in communicating with participating objects, connectivity between them, topology definition & data transfer, access via cloud computing for data storage etc. Our proposed solutions are applicable to a random topology scenario that allow establishing of multi-operational sensor networks out of single networks and/or single service networks with the participation of multiple networks; thus allowing virtual links to be created and resources to be shared. The designed layers are context-aware, application-oriented, and capable of representing physical objects to a management system, along with discovery of services. The reliability issue is addressed by deploying IETF supported IEEE 802.15.4 network model for low-rate wireless personal networks. Flow-sensor succeeded better results in comparison to the typical - sensor from reachability, throughput, energy consumption and diversity gain viewpoint and through allowing the multicast groups into maximum number, performances can be improved.

        Effects of dietary glutamine and arginine supplementation on performance, intestinal morphology and ascites mortality in broiler chickens reared under cold environment

        Objective: An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary glutamine (Gln) and arginine (Arg) supplementation on performance, intestinal morphology and ascites mortality in broilers. Methods: A total of 675 day old chicks were randomly allocated to 9 experimental groups in a 3×3 factorial arrangement based on a completely randomized design with 5 replicates of 15 chicks. Three levels of dietary Gln (0%, 0.5%, and 1%) and Arg (100%, 130%, and 160% of Ross recommendation) supplementation were used in ascites inducing condition (15°C ±1°C) from 7 to 42 days of age. Results: Dietary supplementation of Gln increased body weight gain during grower, finisher and total periods (p<0.05) and increased feed intake during total period. Ascites mortality was decreased by Gln supplementation (p<0.05). Gln supplementation increased the villus height (VH) and crypt depth (CD) in duodenum and jejunum (p<0.05). Arg supplementation decreased CD in duodenum and jejunum, and increased ileum villus width (VW) and also VH/CD ratio in duodenum and jejunum (p<0.05). Both Gln and Arg increased the goblet cell number (GCN) in duodenum whereas Gln supplementation decreased GCN in jejunum and ileum (p<0.05). The Gln×Arg interaction were observed for right ventricle (RV)/total ventricular (TV) ratio, VH, VW, CD, VH/CD. Conclusion: It was concluded that dietary 0.5% Gln alone or along with 130% Arg of Ross requirement, improve the intestinal morphology and performance and hence decrease the ascites mortality in broiler chickens with cold induced ascites.
