        Teaching for Transformation: Exploring Potential Domains of Transformative Learning

        Transformation is a celebrated concept in Christian education. Transformative teaching aims to make significant impact within the learner’s paradigm, perception, and values. Hence, Jack Mezirow’s transformative learning theory can be a symbolic and significant platform for discussions of teaching that transforms the learner’s perception and value system. Transformative learning deals with perspective transformation. Mezirow’s theory is an outcome of research of the way the learner experiences shifts in perspective. However, there are limitations to Mezirow’s theory, and other theories that promote transformative learning suggest alternatives to Mezirow’s original theory. A survey of the developments of Mezirow’s transformative learning theories proclaims the holistic nature of the learning process. The integral components of transformative learning promoted by the theorists are disorienting dilemma, engagement (critical reflection), and integration. The transformative learning theories have different learning emphases. Review of these theories and pedagogical implications are introduced in this article.

        The world’s first sci-fi movie ‘Transformers’, in which a transforming robot appears, is based on a Japanese transforming robot toy. It’s hard to find a western portrayal of a robot as a hero before this film. However, 20 years before the advent of Transformers, Osamu Tezuka introduced the world’s first transforming robot. The transformation robot inherits the tradition of Japanese karakuri dolls that personify things and this transformation of the karakuri doll symbolized life. To the extent that the core theme of Osamu Tezuka’s manga is ‘transformation’, his works feature creatures and robots that transform or are transformed. However, in his cartoons, transformation is expressed as a symbol of human greed and desire. Tezuka showed through the transforming existence that excessive human desire and unrestrained development of science and technology may end mankind.

        Transformative Object Design: Unveiling the Characteristics that Foster Emotional Attachment between Individuals and Objects

        This research explores the intricate relationship between objects and individuals, specifically exploring transformative properties within objects that can engender emotional attachment. While previous studies have acknowledged the potential of transformative qualities such as “wearing away through use” in fostering connections between objects and users, a systematic investigation into the specific characteristics of transformation has been lacking. This study aimed to determine the distinct characteristics of transformation, providing insights into the nuanced ways in which intentional transformations within objects contribute to enduring relationships toward users. The qualitative research design was utilized in this study in order to offer a comprehensive analysis of the key elements in object transformation. As a designer, the researcher offered how such transformation was applied in artifacts to discuss real-world instance of emotional attachment to objects. This enabled a cross-reference analysis of the primary research findings pertaining to the pivotal characteristics of transformation. The results of the study revealed four characteristics of transformation: the slow and subtle transformation, constituting transformation, elevating positive transformation within object, and the active involvement of the user in the transformation process and showed that they foster emotional relationship between objects and individuals. By grasping the nuances of these emotional attachments, designers and creators can not only craft functional objects but also create objects of profound personal significance, enriching the human experience. Designers and creators can use these insights to craft objects that not only serve their functions but also become deeply significant to users and prolong the life of objects. These findings contribute not only to the emotional design but also have broader implications for product design, marketing, and consumer behavior. Understanding how intentional transformations influence emotional bonding with possessions can empower designers to craft objects that transcend mere functionality, becoming profound sources of personal significance and enhancing the overall human experience. This research thus opens avenues for further exploration into emotional design and its potential to reshape the ways we interact with and cherish the objects in our lives.

        열화상 영상을 활용한 CNN-Transformer 네트워크의 공장 설비 이상 진단 방법

        In this paper, we propose a deep learning algorithm optimized for diagnosing factory facility abnormalities using thermal imaging. For this purpose, the contrast of the thermal image is clearly converted with the contrast enhancement algorithm to enhance the edge information. After that, the Convolution Vision Transformer (CvT) developed using only the advantages of Convolution Neural Network (CNN) and Transformer Network is modified to suit the diagnosis of thermal image-based failure facility abnormalities. Experiments were conducted by extracting normal and abnormal images of factory facilities from the thermal image provided by AI Hub. Through this, we confirmed the excellent performance of 98.79% which is higher accuracy than CNN-based ResNet, EfficientNet, and Transformer-based Vision Transformer (ViT), SwinT (Swin Transformer), which are commonly used in the existing computer vision field. In conclusion, it was confirmed that when using the CNN and Transformer fusion network, it shows better performance than the factory facility failure diagnosis algorithm using other thermal imaging images. 본 논문에서는 열화상 영상을 이용한 공장 설비 이상 진단에 최적화된 딥러닝 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이를 위하여 대조도 향상 알고리즘으로 열화상 영상의 대조도를 명확하게 변환하여 가장자리 정보를 강화하여 준다. 그 후에 Convolution Neural Network(CNN)와 Transformer Network 각각의 장점만을 이용하여 개발된 CvT(Convolutional vision Transformer)를 열화상 영상 기반의 고장 설비 이상 진단에 적합하게 수정한 modified CvT 개발을 통하여 공장 설비의 이상을 진단한다. AI Hub에서 제공되는 열화상 영상 중에서 공장 설비의 정상 및 이상 영상들을 추출하여 실험을 진행하였으며, 이를 통하여 기존 컴퓨터 비전 분야에서 보편적으로 사용되고 있는 CNN 기반의 ResNet, EfficientNet 그리고 Transformer 기반의 ViT(Vision Transformer), SwinT(Swin Transformer)보다 높은 정확도인 98.79%의 우수한 성능을 확인하였다. 결론적으로 CNN과 Transformer 융합 네트워크를 활용하였을 때 다른 열화상 영상을 이용한 공장 설비 이상 진단 알고리즘보다 우수한 성능을 보여준다는 것을 확인하였다.

        디지털 전환을 성공적으로 달성한 기업 사례 연구: 전환 단계별 접근을 중심으로

        Purpose: Recently, digital technology have been developed and affecting the industry and companies as a whole. With the newly introduced digital technology, competitive digital conversion companies are emerging one after another through new business models and improved corporate processes, leading the digital economy. Companies are aware of these changes and are scrambling to plan and implement digital transformation strategies. This study studied how companies should adapt digital transformation in order to lead to successful performance. Research design, data, and methodology: As an exploratory approach to the digital transformation approach strategy was needed, a research method was used to describe various data as examples by analyzing them in depth through literature research. In order to increase the reliability and validity of the study, five experts in digital transformation were formed to analyze academic data and check corporate cases. Results: In our study, we confirm that the each succecss case we found follow the three stage of digital transformation; Digitization, Digitalization and Digital transformation. Also we confirm the concepts of the seven vector of digital transformation can explain in-field case well. the seven vector of digital transformation include Scale without Mass, Panoramic Scope, Speed: Dynamics of Time, Intangible Capital and The New Sources of Value Creation, Transformation of Space, Empowerment of The Edges, Platforms and Ecosystems. Implications: Rather than looking at the strategic direction of digital transformation, companies are introducing digital transformation focusing on existing or advanced digital technologies. Digital transformation cannot succeed with simple digital technology, with connectivity and intelligence at the core, and it is important to set the stage and direction of digital transformation after analyzing the potential of markets and companies.

        Genetic Transformation of the Yeast Dekkera/Brettanomyces bruxellensis with Non-Homologous DNA

        Yeast Dekkera/Brettanomyces bruxellensis is probably the most common contaminant in wineries and ethanol production processes. The considerable economic losses caused by this yeast, but also its ability to produce and tolerate high ethanol concentrations, make it an attractive subject for research with potential for industrial applications. Unfortunately, efforts to understand the biology of D. bruxellensis and facilitate its broader use in industry are hampered by the lack of adequate procedures for delivery of exogenous DNA into this organism. Here we describe the development of transformation protocols (spheroplast transformation, LiAc/PEG method, and electroporation) and report the first genetic transformation of yeast D. bruxellensis. A linear heterologous DNA fragment carrying the kanMX4 sequence was used for transformation, which allowed transformants to be selected on plates containing geneticin. We found the spheroplast transformation method using 1M sorbitol as osmotic stabilizer to be inappropriate because sorbitol strikingly decreases the plating efficiency of both D. bruxellensis spheroplast and intact cells. However, we managed to modify the LiAc/ PEG transformation method and electroporation to accommodate D. bruxellensis transformation, achieving efficiencies of 0.6-16 and 10-20 transformants/μg DNA, respectively. The stability of the transformants ranged from 93.6% to 100%. All putative transformants were analyzed by Southern blot using the kanMX4 sequence as a hybridization probe, which confirmed that the transforming DNA fragment had integrated into the genome. The results of the molecular analysis were consistent with the expected illegitimate integration of a heterologous transforming fragment.

        MBR-Safe 변환: 유사 시퀀스 매칭에서 고차원 MBR의 저차원 변환

        대부분의 유사 시퀀스 매칭 방법은 다차원 색인을 사용한 검색 속도의 향상을 위해, 많은 수의 고차원 시퀀스를 저차원 변환한 후 이들 변환된 시퀀스들을 포함하는 저차원 MBR을 구성한다. 본 논문에서는 고차원 MBR 자체를 직접 저차원 MBR로 변환하는 정형적인 방법을 제안하고, 이를 사용하면 유사 시퀀스 매칭에서 필요한 저차원 변환 횟수를 획기적으로 줄일 수 있음을 보인다. 이를 위해, 우선 변환의 MBR-safe 개념을 정형적으로 제안한다. 어떤 변환이 MBR-safe하다 함은 고차원 MBR을 직접 변환한 저차원 MBR이 개별 고차원 시퀀스가 변환된 저차원 시퀀스를 모두 포함함을 의미한다. 다음으로, 기존 저차원 변환 중에서 가장 널리 사용되는 DFT와 DCT에 대해 각각 MBR-safe 변환을 제안한다. 먼저, 기존 DFT와 DCT가 MBR-safe하지 않음을 보이고, DFT와 DCT를 확장한 mbrDFT와 mbrDCT를 각각 정의한다. 그리고, 이들 mbrDFT와 mbrDCT가 MBR-safe함을 정형적으로 증명한다. 또한, mbrDFT(혹은 mbrDCT)가 고차원 MBR을 저차원 MBR로 직접 변환하는 DFT(혹은 DCT) 기반의 최적 MBR-safe 변환임을 증명한다. 분석과 실험 결과, 제안한 mbrDFT 및 mbrDCT를 사용하면 저차원 변환 횟수를 획기적으로 줄이고 성능을 크게 향상 시킨 것으로 나타났다. 이 같은 결과를 볼 때, 본 논문에서 제시한 MBR-safe 개념은 고차원 MBR의 저차원 변환이 필요한 많은 응용에 활용될 수 있는 유용한 연구 결과라 사료된다. To improve performance using a multidimensional index in similar sequence matching, we transform a high-dimensional sequence to a low-dimensional sequence, and then construct a low-dimensional MBR that contains multiple transformed sequences. In this paper we propose a formal method that transforms a high-dimensional MBR itself to a low-dimensional MBR, and show that this method significantly reduces the number of lower-dimensional transformations. To achieve this goal, we first formally define the new notion of MBR-safe. We say that a transform is MBR-safe if a low-dimensional MBR to which a high-dimensional MBR is transformed by the transform contains every individual low-dimensional sequence to which a high-dimensional sequence is transformed. We then propose two MBR-safe transforms based on DFT and DCT, the most representative lowerdimensional transformations. For this, we prove the traditional DFT and DCT are not MBR-safe, and define new transforms, called mbrDFT and mbrDCT, by extending DFT and DCT, respectively. We also formally prove these mbrDFT and mbrDCT are MBR-safe. Moreover, we show that mbrDFT(or mbrDCT) is optimal among the DFT-based(or DCT-based) MBR-safe transforms that directly convert a high-dimensional MBR itself into a low-dimensional MBR. Analytical and experimental results show that the proposed mbrDFT and mbrDCT reduce the number of lower-dimensional transformations drastically, and improve performance significantly compared with the na?ve transforms. These results indicate that our MBR-safe transforms provides a useful framework for a variety of applications that require the lower-dimensional transformation of high-dimensional MBRs.

        Optimization and Analysis of Leakage Reactance for a Converter Transformer of the Electric Transport System

        Converter transformers are widely used in the electric transport system and it is crucial equipment for the rectifer unit of the transport’s tracking substations. Leakage reactance is a crucial criterion during the development of a converter transformer. Almost all of the analytical methods consider only the axial leakage fux density during the evaluation of the leakage reactance. Radial leakage fux density is neglected in the analytical methods. Neglecting the radial leakage fux density during the computation of the leakage reactance in the two-winding transformers and other power transformers does not signifcantly afect the results. However, in the case of the converter transformers, radial leakage fux density also needs to be fully considered. In some of the converter transformers; windings, core, insulation material, and other parts of the transformer are so complex that analytical methods are impossible or difcult to implement. Hence, any other method is needed to evaluate the diferent parameters of the transformer. The optimal selection of leakage reactance is an important parameter during the design of the converter transformer. Numerical computational methods are one of the most commonly used techniques to solve and analyse the complex models of transformers. To accurately compute the leakage reactance of the electric transport system transformer (traction transformer), a transient method is used, which considers the efect of the radial leakage fux density. A prototype converter transformer of the electric transport system has been developed to obtain the experimental results. A transient method results and prototype transformer results show excellent agreement and verify the correctness of the fnite element model. The results of the traditional analytical and magnetostatics fnite element analysis are also compared with the short-circuit experimental test.

      • Preparation for Digital Transformation: A Case and Empirical Findings of South Korean Multinational Corporations

        Purpose - Digital transformation is the key to success for recent multinational corporates. Ample studies have paid attention to the effectiveness of digital transformation and usage of advanced technology, but there is a lack of research related to how to prepare for digital transformation. The main purpose of this study is to organize specific case of preparation for digital transformation from a management perspective. In addition, the empirical results are presented to examine the impact of the preparation of the digital transformation. Design/Methodology/Approach - The study first reviews previous literature about digital transformation to organize antecedents, theory, contingency, and outcomes. Second, based on the resource-based view, a case is explained the company’s context, processes, and methodology. Lastly, empirical analysis is conducted to investigate how effective the digital transformation is prepared, and results are presented with data from 50 affiliations and 1,059 employees. Findings - This study finds the key to successful digital transformation is well-prepared talent, and suggests how multinational corporates can be ready for talent selection and development. Furthermore, readiness in digital transformation in talent varies by industry, company, and employee characteristics. Then, the study implies successful digital transformation should consider a contingency. Research Implications - The current study expands the knowledge on digital transformation by suggesting an actual case of South Korean multinational corporations, which allows researchers and practitioners to understand the process and methodology. Second, this research extended the discussion of digital transformation to talent selection preparation since previous literature has focused only on recent technology. Lastly, the study introduces the empirical results of preparation for digital transformation and helps practitioners initiate digital transformation in their organizations.

      • CIM to PIM Transformation in MDA : from Service-Oriented Business Models to Web-Based Design Models

        Models transformation is the main key of MDA. The first transformation in MDA is CIM to PIM transformation, the second is PIM to PSM transformation. Most searches deal the transformation from PIM level to PSM level, since there are multiple common points between these two levels. However, the transformation from CIM level to PIM level is rarely addressed in search subjects because they are two distinct levels. Our objective in this paper is to represent an approach that allows controlling transformation from CIM level to PIM level in accordance with the MDA approach. More precisely, we propose a methodology for transforming service-oriented business models, to web-based design models. Despite the importance of service-oriented models and web-based models, the transformation between them is not addressed in MDA researches. Our methodology is based on creating a good CIM models service-oriented, through construction rules, to facilitate transformation towards PIM models web-based. Next, our transformation rules allow a semi-automatic transformation from CIM to PIM. Our approach conforms to MDA recommendations, because it allows considering the business dimension in the CIM level, and it allows modeling this latter level by using SoaML, the OMG standard for modeling services. However, we based on UML 2 to model PIM level, because UML is advocated by MDA in PIM level. Our proposal results a set of web-based design models from service-oriented business models, through semi-automatic transformation in accordance with MDA approach.
