        A novel energy-efficient neighbor discovery procedure in a wireless self-organization network

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Neighbor discovery plays a major role in the wireless self-organizing network, which is the cornerstone for the autonomous coverage extension and performance enhancement such as cooperative transmission and multi-hop transmission. However, the hidden node problem is frequently encountered in neighbor discovery procedure based on the simple flooding due to the uncoordinated transmission, which gives rise to unnecessary energy waste. In this paper, the hidden node problem in the conventional neighbor discovery procedure is analyzed. A novel neighbor discovery procedure with the ability of node distance estimation and power allocation for the packet retransmission after collision is proposed, which utilizes fuzzy location information to properly configure the transmission power of the collided packets for better reception. The proposed algorithm improves the power efficiency of the neighbor discovery procedure by reducing the number of transmissions required for the successful reception with negligible induced complexity. Through the Monte-Carlo simulation, the proposed procedure with fuzzy location information and the power allocation method outperforms the conventional procedure in different node population scenarios, and the proposed procedure is insensitive to the distance estimation error, displaying strong robustness.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A novel neighbor discovery procedure is proposed to improve the energy efficiency. </LI> <LI> A new Beacon signal is used to assist the proposed procedure for packet collision indication and further power allocation. </LI> <LI> An autonomous location deduction based power allocation method is proposed to reduce overhead and collision probability. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Coactosin-like protein 1 inhibits neuronal migration during mouse corticogenesis

        Coactosin-like protein 1 (Cotl1), a member of the actin-depolymerizing factor (ADF)/cofilin family, was first purified from a soluble fraction of Dictyostelium discoideum cells. Neuronal migration requires cytoskeletal remodeling and actin regulation. Although Cotl1 strongly binds to F-actin, the role of Cotl1 in neuronal migration remains undescribed. In this study, we revealed that Cotl1 overexpression impaired migration of both early- and late-born neurons during mouse corticogenesis. Moreover, Cotl1 overexpression delayed, rather than blocked, neuronal migration in late-born neurons. Cotl1 expression disturbed the morphology of migrating neurons, lengthening the leading processes. This study is the first to investigate the function of Cotl1, and the results indicate that Cotl1 is involved in the regulation of neuronal migration and morphogenesis.

      • Investigation of temperature sensitivity of actuation performance for piezoelectric fiber composites

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Piezoelectric fiber composites (PFCs) suffer an extremely wide range of temperatures when used in various aerospace structures where temperature effects on the mechanical properties of PFCs are important. In this paper, the actuation performances of PFCs were studied when they were exposed to environmental temperatures from −15°C to 80°C. The results showed that the actuation performance of PFCs was greatly dependent on the environmental temperature. The free strain values and the calculated piezoelectric coefficients d<SUB>33</SUB> and d<SUB>31</SUB> were initially enhanced with the increase of temperature due to the restricted movement of epoxy molecule in the glassy state. The glass transition temperature range of the composite was broadened due to a large number of small pores on the surface of the Pb(Zr,Ti)O<SUB>3</SUB> (PZT) fibers, when the epoxy molecules inside the pores had different transition behaviors compared with those outside the pores. The actuation performance including free strain performance and actuation capability, as well as the piezoelectric coefficients d<SUB>33</SUB> and d<SUB>31</SUB> decreased as the temperature increased above room temperature, since the deformation of epoxy molecules in the viscoelastic state was irreversible.</P>

        Prognostic Threshold of Neuroendocrine Differentiation in Gastric Carcinoma: a Clinicopathological Study of 945 Cases

        Purpose: The significance of neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) in gastric carcinoma (GC) is controversial, leading to ambiguous concepts in traditional classifications. This study aimed to determine the prognostic threshold of meaningful NED in GC and clarify its unclear features in existing classifications. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemical staining for synaptophysin, chromogranin A, and neural cell adhesion molecule was performed for 945 GC specimens. Survival analysis was performed using the log-rank test and univariate/multivariate models with percentages of NED ($P_{NED}$) and demographic and clinicopathological parameters. Results: In total, 275 (29.1%) cases were immunoreactive to at least 1 neuroendocrine (NE) marker. GC-NED was more common in the upper third of the stomach. $P_{NED}$, and Borrmann's classification and tumor, lymph node, metastasis stages were independent prognostic factors. The cutoff $P_{NED}$ was 10%, beyond which patients had significantly worse outcomes, although the risk did not increase with higher $P_{NED}$. Tumors with ${\geq}10%$ NED tended to manifest as Borrmann type III lesion with mixed/diffuse morphology and poorer histological differentiation; the NE components in this population mainly grew in insulae/nests, which differed from the predominant growth pattern (glandular/acinar) in GC with <10% NED. Conclusions: GC with ${\geq}10%$ NED should be classified as a distinct subtype because of its worse prognosis, and more attention should be paid to the necessity of additional therapeutics for NE components.

        Synthesis of TiO2/rGO Nanocomposites with Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Performance and Photocatalytic Activity

        In this paper, a facile and efficient method combined sol–gel method with hydrothermal process was employed for preparing titanium dioxide (TiO2/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposites without using any reductants or surfactants. This approach leads to the reduction of graphene oxide (GO) and the growth of TiO2 nanorods simultaneously. The results reveal that the TiO2 short nanorods with average size of 15 nm in length and 10 nm in diameter were uniformly grown on the rGO sheets with high dispersion. Compared with the pure TiO2 nanoparticles, the TiO2/rGO composites exhibit strong absorption in the visible light range. The photocurrent density of nanocomposites reached 0.826 mA/cm2 under the simulated sunlight illumination, which is 3.5 times than that of pure TiO2. An enhancement of photocatalytic hydrogen formation rate for the water splitting was observed over the TiO2/rGO composite photocatalysts, the fastest formation rate can reach 889.28 µmol·g-1·h-1 when TiO2 coupling with 1wt.% rGO. Also the hydrogen production rate is about 3.27 times larger than pure TiO2 and 2.23 times than P25 due to the excellent electron trapping and transportation properties of rGO and the synergistic effect between TiO2 and rGO.

        Fabrication of Hollow Polymer Microchannels Using the MIMIC Technique with Subsequent Heat Treatment

        The hollow polymer microchannels with different shapes and dimensions have been fabricated by the MIMIC method and the heating process for the first time. The smallest cross-sectional dimensions of hollow polymer microchannels were about 2.6 μm in the vertical direction and 3.5 μm in the horizontal direction. The length of hollow polymer microchannels increased parabolically with the heating temperature in the range of 30–135 °C. And the influence of the PDMS mold crosssectional areas on the length of the microchannels was invetigated. Furthermore, the forming mechanism of hollow polymer microchannels was disscussed in detail. This technique provides a cheap, simple and controllable way for the preparation of microchannels.

        Downregulated CDK10 promotes cancer progression and radioresistance in lung cancer through activating the JNK/c-Jun signaling pathway

        Lung cancer is one of the most significant malignancies, withboth high morbidity and mortality. CDK10 is closely related tocancer progression and metastasis. However, its role in lungcancer radioresistance demands further clarification. In this study,we demonstrated that CDK10 was downregulated in lung cancertissues, and CDK10 expression level was associated withthe clinical prognosis in lung cancer patients. We also foundthat silencing CDK10 promoted lung cancer cell proliferation,migration, and radioresistance. We further verified that silencingCDK10 facilitated the activation of JNK/c-Jun signaling, and c-Jundepletion could reverse the effects of CDK10 knockdown inlung cancer cells. Our findings revealed that CDK10 plays animportant role in cell growth and radioresistance by inhibitingJNK/c-Jun signaling pathway in lung cancer. Therefore, CDK10might be a promising therapeutic target in lung cancer.

        H-mode experimental integrated modeling of impurity injection to control divertor heat flux on HL-2A

        Based on the METIS integrated modeling platform, combined with the experimental data of the #34512 shot detached divertor operation on the HL-2A, this paper selects suitable physical models, and compares and analyzes the integrated modeling results with the experimental results. The modeling results are in good agreement with the experimental results. On this basis, the reason for the decrease of the peak heat fux on the divertor targets is investigated using the METIS simulator. The results show that the two factors of entering the H-mode and the radiation enhancement efect generated by impurity injection work together to reduce the heat fow on the targets. Finally, the diferent efects of N, Ar and Ne impurity gases on the heat fux reduction of the targets are simulated under the condition that the plasma line-average efective charge (Zef) is kept unchanged. The results show that N and Ar are both better than Ne in controlling the heat fow on the targets, and N has the best compatibility in the core, which can not only reduce the boundary heat fow but also maintain the core confnement performance.
