The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the wood-decaying fungus Fomitopsis palustris (Basidiomycete, Agaricomycotina) was determined by next-generation sequencing technology. The complete sequence of the circular mitochondrial DNA of F. palustris was 63,479 bp in length with a 75.98% AT content. The mitochondrial genome encoded 14 conserved proteins, 2 ribosomal RNAs, 26 transfer RNAs, and 19 additional open reading frames. The coxI and cob genes contained six and one group I introns, respectively, and encoded eight open reading frames, including seven intron-encoded endonucleases. The complete mitochondrial genome of F. palustris presented herein represents the first such report for brown rot basidiomycetes. In addition, the BLAST score ratio and phylogenetic analysis may open new avenues to understanding the evolutionary status of this fungus.
Contribution of ipRGC to the Fluorescent Feeling

Fluorescence is generated when a substance absorbs light energy at a short wavelength and then emits light energy at a longer wavelength. This unique characteristic evokes a “fluorescent feeling,” which is different from the perception that is detected when objects reflect light. In our previous study, when an image that was colorimetrically equivalent to a real fluorescent object was reproduced on a monitor, the fluorescent feeling evoked by the reproduced image was reduced. This suggested that the differences in spectral distribution between a reproduced image and a real fluorescent object can affect the fluorescent feeling. In recent years, the role of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) in the detection of brightness has been reported. In this study, we investigate the contribution of ipRGCs to the fluorescent feeling. In our experiment, ipRGC stimulation was tested and compared to the light flux stimulus. We investigated both central vision and peripheral vision. We found that as ipRCG excitation increased, the participants perceived a larger fluorescent feeling. In addition, a large fluorescent feeling was perceived in the peripheral vision, where ipRGCs play a prominent role in image detection. These results indicate that ipRGCs are important for the development of the fluorescent feeling.

This paper is mainly concerned with a high frequency soft-switching PWM inverter suitable for consumer induction heating systems. The proposed system is composed of a soft switching chopper based boost PFC converter stage with passive snubber and phase shifted PWM controlled full bridge ZVZCS high frequency inverter stage. Its fundamental operating performances are illustrated and evaluated in the experimental results. Its effectiveness is substantially proved on the basis of the experimental results from a practical point of view.
Construction method of Lyapunov functions based on eigen analysis

In this paper, we show discretized Lyapunov functions for various nonlinear dynamical systems by using the method that the authors have proposed. We use Kushner’s scheme of difference approximation with directions and Alcaraz et al.’s quantization of Markov processes to approximate Lyapunov equations by linear Schr¨odinger-like equations. We construct time-invariant functions concerned with the solutions to Schro¨dinger-like equations. Then, we show the effectiveness of the method via an example.

Objectives: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a major cause of cerebral palsy in full-term infants. HIE occurs at a rate of about three per thousand live-born infants, even in developed countries. In recent years stem cell therapies have been applied in several fields of medicine. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are one of the major stem/progenitor cell subsets with the potential for repairing vascular injury. Therefore, we have speculated that the transplantation of CD133<sup>+</sup> cells, as a EPCs containing fraction, from umbilical cord blood could also be an useful therapy in perinatal hypoxia-induced brain injury. We established the ex vitro hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy model to assess the effects of CD133<sup>+</sup> cells (endothelial progenitor cells) derived from human umbilical cord blood on nerve extension. In this study, we have investigated the therapeutic effects of CD133<sup>+</sup> cells for the treatment of neonatal HIE on an animal model. Methods: Hypoxic-ischemic brain lesions were induced in neonatal severe combined immunodeficiency mice using the Rice-Vanucci method. CD133<sup>+</sup> cells were administered by intraperitoneal injection 24 h after injury. Macroscopic assessment, growth evaluation and immunohistochemical analysis were performed. To evaluate motor function, rotarod test was performed every 7days between day 28 and day 56 of postnatal. Results: Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that intraperitoneally transplanted CD133<sup>+</sup> cells migrate towards the brain 48 h after injection. The ratio of lesioned to non-lesioned hemisphere area in the CD133<sup>+</sup> group was significantly higher than in the HI group. Moreover, in CD133<sup>+</sup> cell-treated animals, motor function improved and the brain was protected from the hypoxic-ischemic insult compared with untreated animals. Conclusion: Our results suggest that CD133<sup>+</sup> cells derived from human umbilical cord blood have therapeutic po-tential in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.

Background/Aims: This study aimed to examine the diagnostic ability of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) for major vascularinvasion in pancreatic cancer and to evaluate the relationship between EUS findings and pathological distance. Methods: In total, 57 consecutive patients who underwent EUS for pancreatic cancer before surgery were retrospectively reviewed. EUSimage findings were divided into four types according to the relationship between the tumor and major vessel (types 1 and 2: invasion,types 3 and 4: non-invasion). We also compared the EUS findings and pathologically measured distances between the tumors andevaluated vessels. Results: The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of EUS diagnosis for vascular invasion were 89%, 92%, and 91%, respectively, in theveins and 83%, 94%, and 93%, respectively, in the arteries. The pathologically evaluated distances of cases with type 2 EUS findings weresignificantly shorter than those of cases with type 3 EUS findings in both the major veins (median [interquartile range], 96 [0–742] µmvs. 2,833 [1,076–5,694] µm, p=0.012) and arteries (623 [0–854] µm vs. 3,097 [1,396–6,000] µm, p=0.0061). All cases with a distance of≥1,000 µm between the tumors and main vessels were correctly diagnosed. Conclusions: Tumors at a distance ≥1,000 µm from the main vessels were correctly diagnosed by EUS.

In this paper, we consider determination of separating hyperplane where some data points are treated as noise. Pocket algorithm with ratchetis an algorithm for this kind of problems, but it does not guarantee minimal number of noisy instances. By noticing that a hyperplane can be determined by selectingn points among data(where n is the dimension of the data), we can guarantee that point. Actually, we found that the second and the third category of iris data is linearly separable by admitting only one instance of noisy data.
A Proposal of Refactoring toWell-StructuredWorkflow Nets

In this paper, we discuss refactoring free choice workflow nets (WF-net for short) to well-structured ones. It is known that most actual workflows can be modeled as free choice or well-strcutured WF-nets. There are more analysis methods for well-structured WF-nets. Refactoring free choice WF-nets to well-structured ones enables us to apply many analysis methods to free choice ones. We propose two rules for the refactoring. And we show an example of refactroing a WF-net, which represents the actual workflow for an travel agency.
