The cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is the world-wide agriculture pest and has the ability to become resistant to many pesticides. Hence, we conducted behavioral tests on apterous and alate aphids for series compounds from natural products by using a two-choice test, a no-choice test, a host choice test and electroantennography (EAG). As a result, we found 3 out of 30 compounds for apterous aphids and 2 out of 15 compounds for alate aphids, both of which showed powerful repellent effects on these aphids. In this study, we suggest that our findings could be useful and eco-friendly spatial repellents for controlling cotton aphid.

Introduction: Aminoacyl t-RNA synthetase-interacting multi-functional proteins(AIMPs) are scaffolding protein required for the assembly of the macromolecular t-RNA synthetase complex, forming multisynthetase complex(MSC). Alternative spliced variant lacking exon 2 of AIMP2(AIMP2-DX2) compromises the tumor suppressive activity of AIMP2. We investigated the expression of AIMP2-DX2 and its clinical implications in NSCLC. Methods: The expression of AIMP2-DX2 was evaluated in mouse and surgical specimens from 174 patients with immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting Results: Among the organs from normal mouse, AIMP2-DX2 was most strongly expressed in enterocyte, and most weakly expressed in spleen. AIMP2-DX2 was detected more strongly in cancer tissue than in normal tissue of the mouse. Among 174 NSCLC tissues, high expression of AIMP2-DX2 in cytoplasm and nucleus was observed in 47.7% and 36.8%, respectively. Moreover, adenocarcinoma type showed more frequency of high expression in both cytoplasm and nucleus than squamous cell carcinoma. However, other clinical features and outcomes showed no differences between high and low expression. Among the 12 patients with NSCLC, 50% showed higher levels of AIMP2-DX2 in tumor tissues than in normal tissues, 17% showed similar levels, and 33% showed lower level. Conclusion: High expression or high protein level of AIMP2-DX2 were observed in about 50% of patients with NSCLCC. AIMP2-DX2 is mostly detected in cytoplasm of cancer cell. The key role of AIMP2-DX2 in tumorigenesis is remained to be more clarified in NSCLC.

A 70-year-old female was referred for brown-to-gray colored papules and nodules on her lower legs. She had been diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in her stomach, and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) by bone marrow biopsy. Three years after complete remission of DLBCL, she experienced DLBCL recurrence in her small bowel and was hospitalized. MDS had been stationary, but during the treatment of DLBCL, her laboratory findings suggested signs of leukemia. Bone marrow biopsy was done, and acute monoblastic leukemia (AMoL) was diagnosed. After 1 cycle of chemotherapy for AMoL, skin lesions developed, and her skin biopsy showed cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase staining and CD123 staining were negative, and bone marrow re-biopsy conducted after the skin lesion developed still showed monoblastic proliferation. Whether the CTCL represented with an AMoL lineage switch could not be completely proved due to the absence of molecular or clonal marker evaluations, but the possibility of coexistence of three different malignancies was higher. During treatment, a neutropenic fever developed, and the patient died due to sepsis. We herein report a rare case of CTCL accompanied by AmoL and DLBCL. (Ann Dermatol 33(2) 178∼181, 2021)
Diagnostic Neuroimaging in Headache Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Objective Neuroimaging in headache patients identifies clinically significant neurological abnormalities and plays an important role in excluding secondary headache diagnoses. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the existing guidelines and studies surrounding neuroimaging in headache patients. Methods The research question involved determining the prevalence of detecting clinically significant neurological abnormalities using neuroimaging in patients suspected of primary headache. Searches of the PubMed and Embase databases were conducted on English- language studies published from 1991 to 2016, and the reference lists of the retrieved articles were also checked manually. All headache subtypes and patients aged ≥15 years were included in the analysis. Results Ten studies met the selection criteria. The pooled prevalence of detecting clinically significant abnormalities in the neuroimaging of headache patients was 8.86% (95% confidence interval: 5.12–15.33%). Subsequently, diverse subgroup analyses were performed based on the detection method, headache type, study type, study region, age group, and disease type. Conclusion The present findings indicate that limited neuroimaging methods should be carefully considered for headache diagnostic purposes when there are red flag symptoms. Limitations and suggested directions for future studies on neuroimaging in headache patients are described.

Acrolein (2-propenal) is the simplest α,β-unsaturated aldehyde. Humans are exposed to acrolein by smoking, burning woods, oil or fats in meats and vegetables, and by endogenous formation through lipid peroxidation. Acrolein is a highly electrophilic molecule, and readily reacts with nucleophilic biomolecules such as peptides, proteins, and nucleic acids. This high reactivity causes acrolein to have detrimental effects on human or bacteria. The syntheses of acrolein from several starting materials were described. Additionally, several acrolein derivatives and their synthetic process were described with particular emphasis on the acetal forms of acrolein. It is suggested that acrolein and its acetal forms need to be further investigated for medicinal properties.

In this study, the anti-oxidative, health functional, and beauty food activities of water and ethanol extracts from newly bred Ruby S apple (Malus pumila Mill.). The results of measuring the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity by treating the phenolic compound with thinning green ball apple at a concentration of 50-200 μg/mL showed that the water and ethanol extracts at a concentration of 200 μg/mL showed 94.69 and 92.24%, respectively. 2,2'-Azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline- 6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging activities showed 100.30 and 99.16%, respectively, in 200 μg/mL of water and ethanol extracts. The water and ethanol extracts of Green ball showed antioxidant protection factor of 1.76 PF 1.76, respectively. The water and ethanol extracts showed 101.46 and 99.64% anti-oxidative effect on thiobarbituric acid reactive substances at phenolic concentration of 200 μg/mL. The water and ethanol extracts showed 33.28 and 32.14% hyaluronidase inhibition, respectively, at phenolic concentration of 150 μg/mL. The water and ethanol extracts showed 47.33 and 40.92% elastase inhibition and 46.19 and 65.58% collagenase inhibition at phenolic concentration of 200 μg/mL, respectively. About these experiments, thinning Green ball apple was found to exhibit anti-oxidation activity as well as hyaluronidase, elastase and collagenase inhibitory activities. Therefore, thinning Green ball apple can be considered a potential sources for new functional materials.
Solitary leiomyosarcoma on the scalp: primary vs metastatic?

Leiomyosarcoma is the rare malignant tumor of smooth muscle. The primary leiomyosarcoma of the skin is known to be less aggressive and have better prognosis than leiomyosarcoma of other organs. Because of the difference in treatment and prognosis, differentiating metastatic cutaneous leiomyosarcoma from primary cutaneous leiomyosarcoma is important in clinical setting. Herein, we introduce a case of middle-aged man visited our outpatient clinic complaining of solitary erythematous solid nodule on the scalp. The nodule was finally diagnosed as metastatic cutaneous leiomyosarcoma based on the medical history and skin biopsy. Scalp is the location that both primary and metastatic cutaneous leiomyosarcoma is commonly found. In addition, the detection of the metastatic scalp leiomyosarcoma sometimes precedes the diagnosis of the primary leiomyosarcoma. Therefore, when the leiomyosarcoma of scalp is diagnosed, careful diagnosis considering both clinical and pathological information should be made whether the lesion is primary or metastatic.
