        On the Overseas Direct Investment of Chinese Privately-Owned Enterprises

        Attributive to the internal strong vitality and dynamic mechanism as well as the government s progressive supportive policies, the Chinese privately owned enterprises (POEs) emerge fast, gradually playing active roles in undertaking overseas direct investment. However, like most Chinese firms, POEs are latecomers on the global stage with insufficient experience. In addition, their internal deficiencies and external limits make it more difficult to achieve successful overseas investment. This paper explores appropriate overseas investment strategies for the Chinese private enterprises. For successful overseas investment, POEs must take advantage of their vitality and dynamics and refrain from their disadvantages. Finally, this paper ends with assertion that the Chinese POEs with proper strategies equipped can surpass any other sectors in the Chinese economy and then play dominant roles in undertaking outward direct investment among the Chinese economy.

        An exchange bias observed in Tb/Cr/FeCo trilayers with ultrathin Cr layer at low temperature

        Positive exchange bias field (He) is observed in Tb/Cr (tCr)/FeCo trilayers at 5 K without cooling field, and negative He for Tb/FeCo bilayer. The negative He of Tb/FeCo implies the FM coupling at the interface due to Co and Fe dominate in the magnetization of the ferrimagnetic interlayer alloy of FeCo and Tb. With the inserting of Cr layer, this situation is broken, and the positive He implies the antiferromagnetic interlayer coupling. A peak of He = 6.0 mT for trilayers with tCr = 1.5 nm is corresponding to the minimum value of coercivity as a function of tCr at 5 K, which is used to study the effect of the cooling field (Hfc) on He as a function of temperature. It is found that Hfc of 100 mT triggers He from positive to negative at T ≤ 15 K. The magnetoresistance results also confirm the coexistence of multiple MR mechanisms in these trilayers.

        Vagococcus zengguangii sp. nov., isolated from yak faeces

        Two unknown Gram-stain-positive, catalase- and oxidasenegative, non-motile, and coccus-shaped bacteria, designated MN-17T and MN-09, were isolated from yaks faeces (Bos grunniens) in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China. 16S rRNA gene sequence-based comparative analyses revealed that the two strains were grouped within the genus Vagococcus, displaying the highest similarity with Vagococcus xieshaowenii CGMCC 1.16436T (98.6%) and Vagococcus elongatus CCUG 51432T (96.4%). Both strains grew optimally at 37°C and pH 7.0 in the presence of 0.5% (w/v) NaCl. The complete genome of MN-17T comprises 2,085 putative genes with a total of 2,190,262 bp and an average G + C content of 36.7 mol%. The major fatty acids were C16:0 (31.2%), C14:0 (28.5%), and C18:1ω9c (13.0%); the predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7 (68.8%); the peptidoglycan type was A4α(L-Lys-DAsp); and the major polar lipid was diphosphatidylglycerol. Together, these supported the affiliation of strain MN-17T to the genus Vagococcus. In silico DNA-DNA hybridization and the average nucleotide identity values between MN-17T and all recognized species in the genus were 21.6–26.1% and 70.7–83.0%, respectively. MN-17T produced acid from D-cellobiose, D-fructose, glycerol, D-glucose, N-acetyl-glucosamine, gentiobiose, D-mannose, D-maltose, D-ribose, Dsaccharose, salicin, D-trehalose, and D-xylose. These results distinguished MN-17T and MN-09 from closely related species in Vagococcus. Thus, we propose that strains MN-17T and MN-09 represent a novel species in the genus Vagococcus, with the name Vagococcus zengguangii sp. The type strain is MN-17T (= CGMCC 1.16726T = GDMCC 1.1589T = JCM 33478T).

        Variations and Statistical Probability Characteristic Analysis of Extreme Precipitation in the Hekouzhen-Longmen Region of the Yellow River, China

        Under the impact of climate change, the variation in the magnitude and frequency of extreme precipitation events has become a major issue worldwide. Based on the daily precipitation data at 9 meteorological stations and 111 precipitation stations in the Hekouzhen-Longmen region (HLR) in the middle reaches of the Yellow River Basin during 1966–2015, the spatial and temporal variations in and statistical probability characteristics of extreme precipitation were investigated. The probability distribution of extreme precipitation in the HLR was simulated with the annual maximum (AM) series and peak over threshold (POT) series by three extreme distributions, namely, generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution, generalized Pareto (GP) distribution, and gamma distribution. The parameters of the GEV, GP and gamma distributions were estimated by the L-moments method, and the best fit model was selected by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test. The results showed that high value area of extreme precipitation was located in the southeast part of the HLR, while the lower value area was mainly distributed in the northwestern part of the HLR and the upper reaches of the Wuding River Basin. A positive trend of annual maximum precipitation was detected at half of the stations, and the other half of the stations were found to show a negative trend from 1966 to 2015, while the changing trends of extreme precipitation at almost all of the stations were nonsignificant. From the results of the K-S test, the GEV distribution can better fit the AM series, and the GP distribution can better fit the POT series. The estimated extreme precipitation of the AM series is larger than that of the POT series with the same return period at most stations.

        Efficient Surface Display of L-glutamate Oxidase and L-amino Acid Oxidase on Pichia pastoris Using Multi-copy Expression Strains

        L-glutamate oxidase (GLOD) and L-amino acid oxidase (AAO) were reported to be capable of convert L-glutamic acid to α-aketoglutaric acid (α-KG). These two enzymes gene have been successfully expressed by using pHBM905BDM in Pichia pastoris to produce α-aketoglutaric acid from L-glutamic acid in our previous studies. Here these two enzymes were displayed on P. pastoris to achieve the conversion. We constructed multi-copy expression plasmids using plasmid pHBM905BDM. By using this plasmid, multi-copy strains were constructed and named as PGLOD(1-3)-AGα1 and PAAO(1-3)-AGα1, respectively. The following results showed that expression of GLOD(1-3)- AGα1 and AAO(1-3)-AGα1 in multi-copy strains increased as designed and strain PGLOD3-AGα1 and PAAO3-AGα1 was chosen for high-density fermentation and enzyme activity experiments. By using a multi-copy expression approach and high-density fermentation, we achieved a GLOD expression yield of 688.5 U/g dry cell weight and AAO expression yield of 626.7 U/g dry cell weight. By using displayed GLOD, the average production rate of L-glutamic acid to α-KG was 6.22 g/L/h and the highest α-KG titer (124.5 g/L) was converted from 135 g/L L-glutamic acid. By using displayed AAO, the average production rate of L-glutamic acid to α-KG was 5.78 g/L/h and the highest α-KG titer (115.6 g/L) was converted from 135 g/L L-glutamic acid. It showed that displaying enzymes on P. pastoris are suitable for use in industrial applications.

      • A Framework for Analyzing Anonymous Network Topology

        Nowadays, Internet privacy becomes more and more important and sensitive, and has been one of the latest buzz words to hit the Internet world. In response to protect the privacy of Internet users, a variety of privacy enhancing technologies (PETs) have emerged. As one of privacy enhancing technologies, anonymous communication has been extensively studied from various aspects by researchers. Node churn is frequent in anonymous network, which make it difficult to maintain a stable network topology, therefore it is necessary to get more insight into the overall anonymous network topology. In this work, in order to better grasp the present situation of research, we investigate existing organizations and universities which study anonymous communication from the perspective of network topology, and related projects. Then we survey related papers to anonymous communication published in recent years, which focus on the analysis of node selection (especially in the Tor). In addition, we present a framework of anonymous communication network topology, and a visual illustration of this analysis that shows the progression of the research of network topology and node discovery in anonymous communication. Finally, some related problems and follow-up study are presented to be studied deeply in future.

        Cyclophosphamide-induced HCN1 channel upregulation in interstitial Cajal-like cells leads to bladder hyperactivity in mice

        Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels are confirmed to be expressed in bladder interstitial Cajal-like cells (ICC-LCs), but little is known about their possible role in cystitis-associated bladder dysfunction. The present study aimed to determine the functional role of HCN channels in regulating bladder function under inflammatory conditions. Sixty female wild-type C57BL/6J mice and sixty female HCN1-knockout mice were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups, respectively. Cyclophosphamide (CYP)-induced cystitis models were successfully established in these mice. CYP treatment significantly enhanced HCN channel protein expression and Ih density and significantly altered bladder HCN1 channel regulatory proteins. Carbachol (CCH) and forskolin (FSK) exerted significant effects on bladder ICC-LC [Ca2+]i in CYP-treated wild-type (WT) mice, and HCN1 channel ablation significantly decreased the effects of CCH and FSK on bladder ICC-LC [Ca2+]i in both naive and CYP-treated mice. CYP treatment significantly potentiated the spontaneous contractions and CCH (0.001–10 μM)-induced phasic contractions of detrusor strips, and HCN1 channel deletion significantly abated such effects. Finally, we demonstrated that the development of CYP-induced bladder overactivity was reversed in HCN1 / mice. Taken together, our results suggest that CYP-induced enhancements of HCN1 channel expression and function in bladder ICC-LCs are essential for cystitis-associated bladder hyperactivity development, indicating that the HCN1 channel may be a novel therapeutic target for managing bladder hyperactivity.

        Characterization and fine mapping of osh15(t), a novel dwarf mutant gene in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

        Plant height is one of the most important agronomic traits of plant architecture, and also affects grain yield in rice. In this study, we obtained a novel dwarf rice mutant of japonica variety Shennong9816, designated Shennong9816d. Compared with wild-type, the Shennong9816d plant height was significantly reduced, and the tiller number significantly increased. Additionally, the mutant yield component, and the number of large and small vascular bundles were significantly decreased compared with wildtype. Genetic analysis indicated that the Shennong9816d dwarf phenotype was controlled by a recessive nuclear gene, while the plant was shown to be sensitive to gibberellic acid. Using a large F2 population derived from a cross between Shennong9816d and the indica rice variety Habataki, the osh15(t) gene was fine mapped between RM20891 and RM20898, within a physical distance of 73.78 kb. Sequencing analysis showed that Shennong9816d carries a 1 bp mutation and a 30 bp insertion in the OSH15 region. These results suggest that osh15(t) is a novel allelic mutant originally derived from japonica variety Shennong9816, which may be useful for introducing the semi-dwarf phenotype to improve plant architecture in rice breeding practice.

        Characterization of the first tuber mustard calmodulin-like gene, BjAAR1, and its functions in responses to abiotic stress and abscisic acid in Arabidopsis

        The first tuber mustard calmodulin-like (CML) gene BjAAR1 (Brassica juncea var. tumida Tsen et Lee Abiotic stress and Abscisic acid (ABA) Responsive gene 1) was cloned and characterized. The protein encoded by BjAAR1 contains four predicted Ca2+ binding sites (EF-hand motif) and its recombinant protein can bind Ca2+ in vitro. qRT-PCR showed that the expression level of BjAAR1 was rather high in non-swollen stem of tuber mustard and largely reduced in swollen stem. Expression of BjAAR1 enhanced ABA- and stress-induced gene expression in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). Transgenic plants also exhibited hypersensitivity to NaCl, mannitol, and ABA during the seed germination and post-germination stages. ABA biosynthesis inhibitor, norflurazon (NF), rescued hypersensitivity phenotype of transgenic plants to NaCl and mannitol, indicating that BjAAR1 functions in multiple abiotic stresses response through ABA-dependent process.
