        Facile One-Pot Bottom–Up Synthesis of Graphene and Ni/Graphene Nanostructures and Their Excellent Adsorption Performances

        In this paper, a facile one-pot bottom-up approach for the preparation of graphene and Ni/graphene nanostructures at normal pressure and low temperature (150 ℃) has been developed. The graphene and Ni/graphene nanostructures were prepared by reducing hexachloro-benzene (C6Cl6 Þ with potassium in n-tetradecane (C14H30) solution without the presence of a catalyst. Meanwhile, the effect of Ni content on the specific surface area (SSA) of the final products was investigated. The testing results display that the as-prepared samples have large SSA and high C/O ratio, implying that the designed synthesis method is simple and efficient. To evaluate the adsorption performances of the samples, we select organic dye rhodamine B (RhB) as the model organic contaminant in aqueous solutions. The experimental results show that the samples possess high adsorption capacity (qmax = 943.4mg g -1), ultrafast adsorption rate (> 99%, 2 min), high adsorption efficiency ( ≥ 99.8%) and good chemical stability in a wide pH range (2–11), high salt tolerance (> 80 mg mL -1), and good reusability (> 99.5%, 9 cycles) for dye RhB from water. In particular, the samples exhibit a good property for the treatment of the raw industrial wastewater (RIW).

        Investigation on Bond Behavior between Self-compacting Rubberized Concrete and Rectangular Steel Tubes

        The combination of self-compacting rubberized concrete (SCRC) and rectangular steel tubes to be a composite structure is a new attempt to apply it to a broader range of engineering fields while making up for the shortcomings of SCRC. This study presents experimental and analytical studies on the bonding behavior of rectangular self-compacting rubber concrete-filled steel tubes (SCRCFST). A total of 17 SCRCFST specimens were performed on push-out test with different parameters of 1) interface bonding length, 2) rubber aggregate replacementrate, 3) rubber particle size, and 4) water-cement ratio (W/C). Based on the failure mode, strain analysis, and the evolution of damage on the interface between the SCRC and steel tubes, test results determined the effects of the parameters, and a prediction equation for the bond strength was derived from developing a relationship of bond-slip. The results indicated that the increase of rubber content, rubber particle size, W/C harmed the bond strength of SCRCFST, and bond length had little effect on bonding strength. Furthermore, the strain distribution of the rectangular steel tube was not uniformly distributed. The achievement of this research is the investigation of the bonding properties of the new structure, to provide guidance for future research scholars.

        Optimization of abrasive flow polishing process parameters for static blade ring based on response surface methodology

        Static blade ring process technology is a key part for gas turbine manufacturing, and the surface quality of the static blade ring has great influence on a gas turbine. To improve surface roughness of static blade ring, abrasive flow polishing process technology is studied. First, the range of extrusion pressure is obtained by using ANSYS software to analyze the blade deformation. Then a simplified model of surface roughness is estabalished according to experimental results and ANOVA’s results. At the same time, the optimal polishing parameters are confirmed through the response surface methodology. Finally, the polishing experiment is carried out by using the optimal polishing parameters. The experimental results demonstrate that the surface roughness of static blade ring decreased greatly (nearly 14.7%) compared with result using normal parameters.

        Multilevel resistive switching and synaptic behaviors in MnO-based memristor

        Exploring new synaptic electronic devices that combine computing and memory is a promising strategy that fundamentally approaches intelligent machines. In this study, the multilevel resistive switching and synaptic behaviors of a MnO-based device is studied. The device is composed of Al/MnO/Ni sandwich structure, has stable resistance switching characteristics, has continuous nonvolatile memory state, can be used as electrically programmable and erasable analog memory. The gradual conductance modulation is realized by changing the compliance current and the maximum scanning voltage. The Al/MnO/Ni devices successfully mimic the basic functions of synapses, including the paired-pulse facilitation, spike-rate-dependent plasticity, excitatory postsynaptic current, short-term plasticity, long-term plasticity, and sike-timing-dependent plasticity.

        Sputum Autoantibodies Are More Relevant in Autoimmune Responses in Asthma than Are Serum Autoantibodies

        Purpose: The data on the differences between sputum autoantibodies (Sp-Abs) and serum autoantibodies (Se-Abs) in reflection of autoimmune responses to lungs is still lacking. Methods: Ten types of Abs were investigated in matched Se and Sp samples collected from recruited subjects. Correlations between Ab levels and airway inflammatory parameters and measures of pulmonary function were assessed. The network-based and inter-correlated analysis was performed to explore the patterns of Sp- and Se-Ab profiles. Results: Fifty stable asthmatic patients and 24 healthy volunteers were recruited for our study, 15 with mild asthma, 18 with moderate asthma and 17 with severe asthma. The concentrations of Sp-Ab against U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (Sp-anti-U1-SnRNP), Sp-Ab against Smith antigen and Se-Ab against thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) in severe asthmatics and Sp-anti-U1-SnRNP in moderate asthmatics were significantly higher compared to healthy controls and mild asthmatic subjects (P < 0.05). Sp-anti-U1-SnRNP levels were positively correlated with the dose of inhaled corticosteroids, Sp eosinophil counts and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (r = 0.326, P = 0.022; r = 0.356, P = 0.012; r = 0.241, P = 0.025, respectively) and negatively correlated with Sp neutrophil counts (r = −0.308, P = 0.031) with adjustment for age. Spearman's correlation matrix showed multiple inter-correlations among Sp-Abs and Se-Abs (P < 0.05) while only the levels of Ab against DNA topoisomerase and anti-TPO in Se were correlated with those Sp-Ab counterparts (P < 0.05). The network-based analysis defined 2 clusters: clusters 1 and 2 contained 10 Sp-Abs and 10 Se-Abs, respectively. Conclusions: This study observes that Sp-Abs are more associated with clinical parameters and the severity of disease in asthma compared to Se-Abs. Targeting on Sp-Abs which are the hallmark of the localized autoimmune event might help us better understand the role of autoimmunity in the pathological mechanism of asthma.         Ardipusilloside-I stimulates gastrointestinal motility and phosphorylation of smooth muscle myosin by myosin light chain kinase

        Ardipusilloside-I is a natural triterpenoid saponin, which was isolated from Ardisia pusilla A. DC. The aim of the study was to evaluate the stimulation of ardipusilloside-I on gastrointestinal motility in vitro and in vivo. The experiment of smooth muscle contraction directly monitored the contractions of the isolated jejunal segment (IJS) in different contractile states, and the effects of ardipusilloside-I on myosin were measured in the presence of $Ca^{2+}$-calmodulin using the activities of 20 kDa myosin light chain ($MLC_{20}$) phosphorylation and myosin $Mg^{2+}$-ATPase. The effects of ardipusilloside-I on gastro emptying and intestinal transit in constipation-predominant rats were observed, and the MLCK expression in jejuna of constipated rats was determined by western blot. The results showed that, ardipusilloside-I increased the contractility of IJS in a dose-dependent manner and reversed the low contractile state (LCS) of IJS induced by low $Ca^{2+}$, adrenaline, and atropine respectively. There were synergistic effects on contractivity of IJS between ardipusilloside-I and ACh, high $Ca^{2+}$, and histamine, respectively. Ardipusilloside-I could stimulate the phosphorylation of $MLC_{20}$ and $Mg^{2+}$-ATPase activities of $Ca^{2+}$- dependent phosphorylated myosin. Ardipusilloside-I also stimulated the gastric emptying and intestinal transit in normal and constipated rats in vivo, respectively, and increased the MLCK expression in the jejuna of constipation-predominant rats. Briefly, the findings demonstrated that ardipusilloside-I could effectively excite gastrointestinal motility in vitro and in vivo.

        The Importance of Allergen Avoidance in High Risk Infants and Sensitized Patients: A Meta-analysis Study

        Purpose: At this time, there is uncertainty regarding whether allergen avoidance is the most appropriate strategy for managing or preventing allergies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of allergen avoidance in the prevention of allergic symptoms in previously sensitized patients and newborns that have the potential to develop allergies. Methods: We performed online searches of articles published from January 1980 to December 2012 in PubMed and The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and selected articles involving randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and allergen avoidance. The parameters used to determine allergenic potential in newborns included the risk ratio (RR) of eczema, asthma, rhinitis, wheeze, and cough. The methods employed to evaluate previously sensitized patients were the standardized mean difference (SMD) of forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR). Data quality was assessed using the Jadad scale. Results: A total of 14 RCTs were identified. Meta-analysis demonstrated that allergen avoidance for newborns did not reduce the subsequent incidence of allergic diseases (eczema, P=0.21; rhinitis, P=0.3; cough, P=0.1) but significantly reduced the incidence of asthma and wheezing in high-risk infants (asthma, P=0.03; wheeze, P=0.0004). However, previously sensitized patients who reduced their exposure to known allergens did not show improvement in their lung functions (FEV1, P=0.3; PEFR morning, P=0.53; PEFR evening, P= 0.2; PEFR, P=0.29). Conclusions: Allergen avoidance may not always be successful in preventing allergic symptoms. However, rigorous methodological studies are required to confirm this hypothesis.

        Enhancing Seed Germination of Cremastra appendiculata: Screening and Identification of Four New Symbiotic Fungi in the Psathyrellaceae Family

        Several coprinoid fungi have been identified as promotors of Cremastra appendiculata seed germination, while others appear ineffective. This study aimed to discern which genera within the Psathyrellaceae family exhibit this capability and to identify the most effective coprinoid fungi for the cultivation of C. appendiculata. We collected 21 coprinoid fungi from diverse sources and symbiotically cultured them with C. appendiculata seeds. 9 fungi were found to induce seed germination and support seed development, specifically within the genera Coprinellus, Tulosesus, and Candolleomyces. In contrast, fungi that failed to promote germination predominantly belonged to the genera Coprinopsis and Parasola. Notably, four fungi—Coprinellus xanthothrix, Coprinellus pseudodisseminatus, Psathyrella singeri, and Psathyrella candolleana—were documented for the first time as capable of enhancing C. appendiculata seed germination. Strain 218LXJ-10, identified as Coprinellus radians, demonstrated the most significant effect and has been implemented in large-scale production, underscoring its considerable practical value. These findings contribute vital scientific insights for the conservation and sustainable use of C. appendiculata resources.

        Decorin: a potential therapeutic candidate for ligamentum flavum hypertrophy by antagonizing TGF-β1

        Ligamentum flavum hypertrophy (LFH) is the main physiological and pathological mechanism of lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSCS). The specific mechanism for LFH has not been completely clarified. In this study, bioinformatic analysis, human ligamentum flavum (LF) tissues collection and analysis, and in vitro and in vivo experiments were conducted to explore the effect of decorin (DCN) on LFH pathogenesis. Here, we found that TGF-β1, collagen I, collagen III, α-SMA and fibronectin were significantly upregulated in hypertrophic LF samples. The DCN protein expression in hypertrophic LF samples was higher than that in non-LFH samples, but the difference was not significant. DCN inhibited the expression of TGF-β1-induced fibrosis-associated proteins in human LF cells, including collagen I, collagen III, α-SMA, and fibronectin. ELISAs showed that TGF-β1 can upregulate PINP and PIIINP in the cell supernatant, and this effect was inhibited after DCN administration. Mechanistic studies revealed that DCN suppressed TGF-β1-induced fibrosis by blocking the TGF-β1/SMAD3 signaling pathway. In addition, DCN ameliorated mechanical stress-induced LFH in vivo. In summary, our findings indicated that DCN ameliorated mechanical stress-induced LFH by antagonizing the TGF-β1/SMAD3 signaling pathway in vitro and in vivo. These findings imply that DCN is a potential therapeutic candidate for ligamentum flavum hypertrophy.
