        After the vehicle has become a large formation with high-speed, loud noise from an express highway is increasing, and the number of large-scale apartment complexes, which are recently being constructed in the metropolitan area nearby the express highway and IC, is increasing gradually. Compared with a main road, the traffic volume and the speed of a vehicle between IC and the ramp way [turn-off] are smaller. If the ramp way is rightly connected with the downtown area, however, the traffic-noise that comes about in surrounding areas will be in conjunction with the traffic-noise from the main road of express highway and that of the ramp way. This research has selected a place that hasn't had a road or a commercial quarter nearby the main-road of IC and ramp way. Then we have studied the traffic-noise status under minimizing influence of its outer-noise, which occurs in IC. 1. The traffic volume change of a small and full-sized car with time has been kept on regularity in 2004 and 2005. As the traffic volume of a full-sized car has diminished remarkably, it has been maintaining through 6:00a.m.-10:00 a.m. As it has decreased since lO:OO a.m.. we have also observed the traffic proportion going up. 2. Monthly traffic volume of small cars was higher in May, August and October than other months. We have observed that the high traffic volume during these months is due to the following: May-The Damyang festival, August-a high-demand season, October-viewing scarlet maple leaves. Monthly traffic volume of full-sized cars was generally higher in August, but it has decreased during 2006. This was due to the many construction trucks that were working on the extension of the 88 Olympic expressway. Therefore, there was more traffic volume in 2006 compared to 2004 and 2005. 3. In this study, the noise figures have been less than 55 dB(A) in 18 spots. There were 14 spots from 55dB(A) to 58dB(A). 58-61dB(A) : 20, 61-64dB(A) : 17, 64-67dB(A) : 18. There were 8 spots we observed at the highest level from 67dB(A) to 70dB(A). Those were the nearby spots separating the main road and Damyang IC. 4. Traffic-noise at the boundary between IC and the main road of an expressway was higher than that of the same distance in other places. 5. We have observed that traffic-noise is low in places with mountains that serve the role of soundproofing walls. Thus, the fundamental sound hadn't affected it.

      • 도로교통소음의 수평·수직적 전달 및 감쇠 특성

        This study has been conducted to achieve the following objectives: First, in order to understand the horizontal propagation and attenuation characteristics for the road traffic noise, we selected actively developed areas within 100 meters away from the road to measure the level of traffic noise near a road. To measure the noise near a railroad, we selected areas within 100 meters away from the road. In this way, we analyzed the horizontal propagation and attenuation characteristics for the traffic noise occurring in diversified areas. Second, in order to understand the vertical propagation and attenuation characteristics for the road traffic noise, we measured and analyzed the distributional characteristics of vertical sound pressure levels on each floor of multi-storied apartment buildings according to changes of traffic load and types, and the existence or nonexistence of soundproof walls. For the case of the road traffic noise, we also selected we measured and analyzed the different noise levels on each floor of multi-storied apartment buildings from the soundproof wall. The results of Horizontal propagation and attenuation characteristics for the road traffic noise are as follows: In cases of the soundproof wall + raising ground, raising ground, cutting land, and flat land as distance increases, the sound pressure level steadily decreases. The soundproof wall + raising ground has an especially high distance decrease compared to the other areas, and the sound pressure level for the raising ground is higher than that of the cutting land with a measurement of 10.7~12.1dB(A). Vertical propagation and attenuation characteristics for the road traffic noise are as follows: The amount of sound pressure level decrease is 12.6- 14.5dB(A) for first floor when measuring the vertical sound pressure levels at soundproof wall, which indicates a fairly large decrease. At fifth and sixth floor, the amount of decrease is 2.3dB(A), which indicates a small decrease.

        Regulation of Inhibitors of Differentiation Family Proteins by Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone in FRTL-5 Thyroid Cells

        <P>Members of the inhibitors of differentiation (Id) family of helix-loop-helix (HLH) proteins are known to play important roles in the proliferation and differentiation of many cell types. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) regulates proliferation and differentiation by activating TSH receptor (TSHR) in thyrocytes. In this study, we found that Id2, one of the Id family proteins, is a major target for regulation by TSH in FRTL-5 thyroid cells. TSH rapidly increases the Id2 mRNA level in FRTL-5 thyroid cells but the Id2 protein showed biphasic regulatory patterns, being transiently reduced and subsequently induced by TSH treatment. Transient reduction of Id2 protein was noted within 2 hr of TSH treatment and was mediated by proteasomal degradation. Moreover, reduced Id2 expression correlated with the activity of the phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase pathway, which is activated by TSH. Although TSH increases the activity of the Id2 promoter, TSH-induced activation of this promoter was independent of c-Myc. Id2 did not alter TTF-1- and Pax-8-mediated effects on the regulation of the Tg promoter. Thus, in summary, we found that TSH regulates Id2 expression, but that Id2 does not alter the expression of thyroid-specific genes, such as Tg, in FRTL-5 thyroid cells.</P>

      • 섬유아세포 증식에 대한 Phorbol myristate acetate의 효과

        목적 : 이 연구는 Phorbol myristate acetate (PMA)가 강력한 암촉진제로서 세포내 신호전달체인 protenin kinase C (PKC)의 활성화를 통하여 여러가지 작용을 나타낸다. 사람 두배수체인 섬유아세포와 불멸성 섬유아세포인 Swiss 3T3 세포의 증식 즉 DNA 합성에 대해 PMA의 미치는 효과와 이것의 PKC와의 관계를 조사하는데 있다. 재료 및 방법 : 사람 폐섬유아세포(HEL299) 및 Swiss 3T3세포를 밀생상태가 될때까지 배양한후 fetal vine serum이 없는 배지에서 48시간 두어 휴지기 상태로 만들어 필요한 시약과 [H^3]thymidine를 넣어 24시간 배양해서 세포내 DNA 합성에 이용된 [H^3]thymidine의 방사능을 측정하여 비교하였다. 결과 : 사람 및 Swiss 3T3 섬유아세포의 DNA 합성은 PMA단독투여 때는 약2배로 증가되었으나 colchicine 혹은 insulin을 함께 투여하면 그 양상은 달랐다. 즉 PMA는 Swiss 3T3 세포에서 insulin에 의한 DNA 합성 증가작용을 더욱 촉진시켰으나, 사람의 섬유아세포에서는 insulin이나 colchicine에 의한 DNA합성 증가를 오히려 억제하였다. 사람의 섬유아세포에 비활성 phorbol ester인 4α-phorbol-12, 13-didecanoate(4α-PDD) 단독 투여하니 PMA 무여군과는 달리 DNA 합성이 대조군과 별 차이가 없었으며, colchicine에 의한 DNA 합성증가에도 별로 영향을 미치지 않았다. Swiss 3T3 세포에 비교적 선택적으로 PKC 활성을 억제하는 staurosporine을 농도를 증가시키면서 투여하니 PMA에 의한 DNA합성 증가효과는 감소되었다. 결론 : PMA는 사람 섬유아세포나 Swiss 3T3 세포에 약간의 증식효과를 가지나 세포 자극제에 의한 DNA 합성 증가효과에 대해서는 세포의 종류 및 상태에 따라 다른 결과를 나타내었다. 또한 PMA의 효과는 PKC를 통하여 일어남을 시사하였다. Proliferation of fibroblasts around the damaged tissue plays a key role in the wound healing and the development of tissue fibrosis. Phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) is known to be a potent tumor promoter and its intracellular receptor, protein kinase (PKC) is known to play important roles in many signaling pathways, including those involved in cell proliferation. In cultured human diploid tang fibroblasts and Swiss 3T3 cells, the effects of PMA on the DNA synthesis and the involvement cf PKC in its effects were studied. PMA alone stimulated DNA syntheis by the both cells slightly. However, the treatment of the both cells with PMA resulted in an opposite effect on the DNA syntheis stimulated by colchicine and/or insulin. PMA inhibited DNA synthesis in human fibroblasts stimulated by insulin and colchicine, whereas PMA potentiated insulin-stimulated DNA synthesis in Swiss 3T3 cells. 4α-phorbol-12, 13-didecanoate(4α-PDD), known to be inactive for PKC, was without effect in DNA synthesis by human fibroblasts in the either absence or presence of colchicine. Staurosporine, a relatively specific inhibitor for PKC abolished the effect of PMA on DNA synthesis in Swiss 3T3 cells in the presence of insulin. These results suggest that PKC is involved in the regulation of DNA synthesis in fibroblasts but its outcome may be different according to the culture conditions and the cells used.

      • 2,4-Dinitrophenol을 처리한 호밀(Secale cereale L.) 유식물의 질산염 환원에 관한 연구 : Ⅰ. 호밀 유식물 묘조의 질산염 환원요소 활량에 대한 2, 4-Dinitrophenol의 영향 Ⅰ. Effect of 2, 4-Dinitrophenol on in vivo Nitrate Reductase Activity in the Shoots of Rye Seedlings

        This work was accomplished to determine the effect of 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) on in vivo nitrate reductase activities(NRA) in the shoots of 6 day old rye(Secale cereale L.) seedlings. The NRA in the shoots of rye seedlings pretreated with 0.5mM DNP was higher than that of the control group in all the experimental conditions as below. The optimal concentration of KNO_3 for maximum NRA was 10mM in both the control and treated group. The NRA accumulated with the treatment of 10mM KNO_3 was gradually increased for 4 hours in both groups, and then maintained constantly. On the other hand, the NRA occurred per hour was highest at 1 hour in both groups, while it was declined subsequently. The optimal pH for NRA was 7.5 in both groups. The daily pattern of NRA was markedly decreased for 4 days in both groups, and decreased slowly to 7 days. The NRA was greatly inhibited in the solutions of 200mM KCI and NaCl. According to the treatment time with the solutions of 200mM KCI and NaCl, the NRA was extremely inhibited at 2 hours, thereafter recovered slowly from its inhibition effects.

        Determinant of Arterial Stiffness in Young Adults

        Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors may be acting several decades before CVD becomes manifest. Data from young subjects may be valuable in further elucidating at this issue. We evaluated the association between baPWV (brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity) and cardiovascular risk factors in apparently healthy young adults. A total of 46 male and 91 female adolescents aged $18{\sim}25 years$ were studied. baPWV increased in a dose-responsive manner as the number of metabolic syndrome components. In both gender groups, baPWV was positively correlated with age. In males, waist, circumference total cholesterol, and LDL-cholesterol were positively correlated with baPWV, and in females, blood pressure (BP) was positively correlated with baPWV. Age, gender, mean BP, and Homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were found to be independent factors associated with baPWV levels. In conclusion, mean BP, age, gender, and HOMA-IR were associated with baPWV in young adults. This result suggests that multiple cardiovascular risk factors may be associated with an increased risk of arterial stiffness in young adults.
